Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.
Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."
We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.
Take the 1 train to Christopher St/Sheridan Square and walk south (toward Grove St) on West 4th, 4 blocks. Continue south on 6th Ave 2 blocks to Minetta Lane, and 2 blocks east to MacDougal St.
What Insiders Are Saying
Minetta Tavern in Greenwich Village is home to some of the best steaks, chops, burgers, and overall feel good vibes that New York City has to offer.
Perfect Food, the Black Label Burger is just perfect !!
Burger was a lot smaller than it used to be and not nearly as flavorful (esp at a $30 price point)
OUTSTANDING BURGER—Must try Black Tie burger....def a must-have if you’re in hunt for best burger in Gotham. Cheers!
Black label burger is the bomb. Skip the Minetta burger. Just go for the black label. Smokey, fatty goodness. Mmmmmm
Great place for special occasion. The bone marrow was a unique experience. The duck was outstanding. The moules were OK. Service when we got to the table was good but was very surprised that we had to wait for more than 20 minutes beyond our booked time
We had a wonderful experience/time. The food was amazing and worth the price. The waiter, Rashad, was the best. Only downside is the noise level...but, NYorkers thrive on noise.
Went during a weekday, non-peak at 2p for a late lunch. Food was expensive, and it was good but not the best burger I've ever had like my friend raved. Still a good time, so I rate this well.
Hamburguesa estupenda y el paté de foie suculento.
Los mejillones tienen un estilo muy perfumado que mató el sabor del mejillón. A mi no me gusto ese platillo, nada.
Great intimate and nostalgic mood while cozily elegant and serving some of the best steak and hamburgers in New York City .
Spent our anniversary here. We love Minetta so overall everything was splendid. We started with the burrata and the foie gras. Both scrumptious; however, felt like we should have ordered the bone marrow - man was that a sight and had much envy. I had the trout with crab in a lovely butter sauce and the man had the infamous burger. Of course, the chocolate soufflé bc how could you not. We each had two cocktails - Manhattans...very traditional but that’s how we like it - class act. Bill was $200
The restaurant is authentic and quaint the wait staff was attentive and professional. The ambiance was classic and the location is great. The prices are high relative to the area and the portion size. Likely better at night as opposed to Sunday brunch.
Don’t try to change your reservation in the day of - restaurant is unreachable by phone. Good service and ambiance but disappointed in the steak in the steak frites. Doesn’t need to to be that poor
Absolutely loved every second. The food is sensational and so is the service . One of the best places in NYC
This was my fifth time there. The menu changed slightly, the carrots we’re my favorite non potato side and now they’re gone. Had the black label burger to start which was ordered medium, but we got somewhat rare, which was still delicious. Cote de beouff for main course was on point as usual. My only issue is I noticed a pretty relative price increase from the last time I was there, along with the restaurant being extremely hot. 300.00 plus tip for two people with only one cocktail is pretty steep. Only ordered a burger to taste for app which we split. Two sides and cote de beouff for main course with coffee and soufflé for dessert.
I had a simply amazing dinner in this historic place! The food, staff, jazz music and atmosphere were just perfect!
Black Label Burger is the best burger I had ever!
My Dad loves old NY restaurants and Minetta Tavern was perfect. We were first ones seated for Sunday Brunch at 11 am and a great meal and great time.
Minetta Tavern is one of those special New York restaurants that must be experienced whether a local or a tourist with minimal time. There is something so unique about this restaurant that dates to 1937 which at the same time offers updated food including some of the best steaks and burgers you could find in NYC. I am certain almost anyone would love the privilege of dining here.
The food is always outstanding, but the service is a nightmare.
Hostesses are just mean and seem to hate their job.
Waiters are all over the place but don’t even know how to serve wine in a glass, you’ll have to ask 3 different people and twice each for dijon mustard or pepper...
The service was accommodating especially with transit delaying my reservation. Prompt turnaround time for my order. The Black Label Burger is pricey but worth every bite.
We’ve been at Minetta 4 years ago first time. We Delta in love about this place. That’s why we decided to back for our honey moon with our baby
Excellent food and service, but wish they didn't turn the lights almost totally off for the late seatings. Really changed the mood. Too dark.
Amazing burger, great cocktails, cozy atmosphere, great service
I was told it had the best burger in NYC. It is a very good burger, but not the best one. It lacked a little bit in flavor.
Service was not very good. We had a reservation, the place was not packed, but they had us waiting for 25 minuters at the bar.
Staff was, from the hostess to the waiters (including the bartender) polite but not friendly.
I don't think I would repeat the experience.
Love the old look and feel of this place from the moment we walked in. Our waiter was outstanding and very knowledgeable about the good. Food was phenomenal. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and they brought over dessert and glasses of champagne. Perfect ending!
We had the black label burger. It was good, but not the best we’ve had. Bread was soggy, fries & rum punch were delicious. Ambience was very classy/casual, the waitress was incredibly friendly. We enjoyed the afternoon but honestly for the cost ($100 for 2 burgers, 1 drink) - it was forgettable. It was a nice lunch but we probably won’t be back.
An expensive but good hamburger. Not something you could eat every day, but good for a special occasion.
As the man said I shall return
Classic New York!
Great ambiance and service. The food was amazing. Black Label burger is a must-try!! The soufflé at the end was delicious!
Went here for my birthday during an early afternoon. We had reservations so best to make one. I wanted to try the Black label burger. It was great! The French toast ho'dovers was good too.
Wonderful experience. Can't wait to go again. Now one of my favorite spots
My Brother recommended this wonderful restaurant and we couln not have enjoyed it more - I had the black label burger and it was excellent, my friend has steak and fries and loved it as well. Our server was simply perfect! Next time in New York we will be back!
It's good, but not the best at anything I've tried on the menu after several visits. The back dining room is so loud. Not the restaurant's fault that its diners like to shout across the table at each other, but it does take away from the overall experience. Service is on point and pacing of dishes is also good.
We were seated at 10:10 pm, having reserved for 9:30 (and arrived 9:25). The hostess didn’t update us or apologize as we waited the forty-five minutes at the bar. She murmured a perfunctory “Sorry about the wait,” when she finally seated us but neither she nor our waiter made any further effort to make it up to us. Food was tasty, atmosphere lively, but we were made to feel so unwelcome that I doubt we’ll return.
It has been awhile since I came here. The food used to be much better. It has gone down hill. Steak and burger this time were very very average. Would not come back.
The Black Label burger was so worth it, cocktails were outstanding, very satisfied. A bit crowded even at 10 PM at night, but the charm and atmosphere made up for it.
Delicious burger, best in nyc. The bone marrow , wow !
The black label burger is worth the trip and is large enough to be split by two people. Treasure in the heart of the Village and a place to see and be seen.
