Minetta Tavern was opened in Greenwich Village in 1937. The Tavern was named after the Minetta Brook, which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River.

Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.

Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."

We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

Great ambiance and service. The food was amazing. Black Label burger is a must-try!! The soufflé at the end was delicious!

My Brother recommended this wonderful restaurant and we couln not have enjoyed it more - I had the black label burger and it was excellent, my friend has steak and fries and loved it as well. Our server was simply perfect! Next time in New York we will be back!

It's good, but not the best at anything I've tried on the menu after several visits. The back dining room is so loud. Not the restaurant's fault that its diners like to shout across the table at each other, but it does take away from the overall experience. Service is on point and pacing of dishes is also good.

We were seated at 10:10 pm, having reserved for 9:30 (and arrived 9:25). The hostess didn’t update us or apologize as we waited the forty-five minutes at the bar. She murmured a perfunctory “Sorry about the wait,” when she finally seated us but neither she nor our waiter made any further effort to make it up to us. Food was tasty, atmosphere lively, but we were made to feel so unwelcome that I doubt we’ll return.

It has been awhile since I came here. The food used to be much better. It has gone down hill. Steak and burger this time were very very average. Would not come back.

The Black Label burger was so worth it, cocktails were outstanding, very satisfied. A bit crowded even at 10 PM at night, but the charm and atmosphere made up for it.

The black label burger is worth the trip and is large enough to be split by two people. Treasure in the heart of the Village and a place to see and be seen.

Minetta is a NYC classic. One of the city’s best burgers. The dry-aged rib eye for two with bone marrow is not to be missed. Great cocktails, serviceable wine list. Friendly and professional staff.

Lousy service! Waited over a 1/2 hour after being done with appetizers to get our entree and they were not cooked to our specifications. Ordered medium well hamburgers and received rare, cool burgers. Complained to head waiter and he was annoyed at us!! Had told our waiter that we needed to be out by 7 and had to cancel desert and coffee to get out at 7:15pm. When we told the head waiter/ manager that we were locals who frequented the restaurant often and had never had An experience like this before and that ewe thought we shoutbe compensated for our difficulty he grabbed the check from my hands did make an adjustment and then the check back on the table! We will never go there again!

There were 6 of us early on a Sunday bday evening. We had made the res weeks in advance. They put us at a 4 top with 6 chairs and we were jammed into the next table. We kept hitting each other’s legs and no room to even turn in your chair. Plus the guy in the end kept getting hit by waiters passing by. Could have done better.

It looks like a dive, but it's Michelin starred, and rightly so! Went for brunch and had a fabulous house bloody mary, and steak frites which was one of the tastiest hanger steaks I've had. It can get a bit noisy here as the decor is 1930s barroom with tin ceilings and wood paneled walls that reflect sound. Worth a visit.

1st time there, party of 4, had to wait in crowded bar for 10 mins, we arrived on time. Service was good. We ordered 4 black label burgers, or whatever they're called. 1 rare, 2 med rare, 1 med. All came out raw in the middle. Cold and raw like steak tartare... which I actually have no problem with, but the one who ordered medium was so turned off that she lost her appetite. I understand that these are very expensive patties and overcooking them hurts the bottom line.... someone should tell them that the other way is just as bad. Won't be returning.

Very good and great ambiance. Only issue was we booked for 10:30 and we had to wait almost half an hour until our table was ready which begs the question why did I book before hand.

The atmosphere is wonderful - it's just like a Parisien restaurant. The flavour of the Black Label burger was sunning, although the accompany fries were a copious, dry and dull. With a little more imagination this could be a world class dish. Service was attentive and really friendly and we'd certainly return.

The brunch that I ordered was "eggs and buttermilk biscuits". The plate also included broiled tomatoes and slices of ham. The eggs, bisuits, and tomatoes were fine. The ham was spectacularly mediocre, and the plate would have been better off without it. When the manager (?) asked how it had been, that is exactly what I told him. In spite of my protestations that I had had plenty to eat without the ham, he insisted on deducting the price of my glass of wine. So the restaurant definitely gets extra points for "class"!

Minetta Tavern has become our favorite place in the Village. We love the old New York atmosphere, the great food and the attentive service. We both had the Black Label burger for lunch and it was amazing, definitely living up to its fame. Looking forward to our next visit.

Exceptional service!!! Food was delicious. A little hiccup on timing (waited a long time for our entrees) but the server and manager were so kind and attentive - that it did not impact our dining experience negatively. That and the complimentary desserts helped!

Not what it used to be! Don’t come for the food, just for a drinks as it’s still a great feeling spot. The service was scattered and without much attention. The food has literally gone downhill. The burgers that were once tops in the city, no longer could be on a top 50 list! (And that’s a real shame). I believe a new inspired chef, making the classics right, and some new gems is in order. And please...service that’s real, not predicated by the programmes screen system...really not working here!

Very nice place with a lot of history. Really poor service, going from: Out of the wine we ordered, they suggested another we accepted, with no info of higher price! To missing tools for our entre, really poor maincourse - and our waiter couldn't care less - and they kept forget to bring the things we ordered. A really bad experience on such a nice place. What a shame.

We ate here before a play on the recommendation of a friend. It is definitely a neighborhood gem with excellent service and a great brunch menu. The waitress was quite knowledgeable and was able to give in depth answers to questions about the food. I had the signature burger and my wife had a truffle dish with poached eggs in a cream sauce. Both were excellent and we would highly recommend them. Overall a great dining experience and ambiance.

Dined for friend’s birthday. High point was service- waiter was excellent. Decor is awesome! Food - escargot tasteless; pasta dish over cooked mushy ; trout and scallops were ok - very disappointed; waaay overpriced. Would be willing to give Minetta Tavern another chance.
