About Minami Restaurant

Located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Yaletown, Minami Restaurant follows the pioneering footsteps of its sister restaurant, Miku, in delivering the innovative dining experience of Aburi cuisine to Vancouver's thriving food scene. Each piece of sushi is flame seared using a blowtorch and binchotan (oak charcoal), resulting in sushi with a smoky aroma and a melt-in-your-mouth texture.

From the kitchen, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients are integrated into Minami's dishes to reflect Vancouver's diverse flavours. This culinary approach evokes both the passion and beauty of Aburi cuisine, as each dish is artfully plated on custom-designed Arita Yaki plate ware hand picked by owner Seigo Nakamura from the artisan town of Arita, Japan.

Minami Restaurant offers a dynamic space for both dining and entertaining, including two private dining rooms, a seated lounge, hidden garden patio, and sushi bar.

Minami is one of m y favourite restaurants in Vancouver. Their salmon and saba oshi are the best things ever invented. They are melt-in-your mouth deliciousness. We also ordered the sablefish and the ebi fritters which were equally delicious. Service is always top notch and they're also so kind. I love this place!

Previous experiences at Minami have been very good so when we booked dinner for our anniversary I had high expectations. We had a 9.30pm booking and I was very disappointed with our evening. It took 30 minutes for us to be offered the option to order drinks, and although our waitress was friendly and professional she seemed rushed and too busy to serve us. For the price I would expect a lot more from the service and overall experience. We won't be going back in the near future. If the restaurant can't handle 9.30 bookings they shouldn't take them.

Sarah our designated server went over and beyond. In fact, her attention to detail is quite refreshing. All smiles, no rushing, friendly and knowledgeable of what she is talking about. Hope to see you again Sarah!

Love it! Huge improvement. Love our waitresses Traci. Almost made our dinning to perfection! High expectation met finally. The new menu is very delicious and creative. You still got the original favor just with a better creative way. Outstanding. It is good to continuously improving the dishes. I would like to see more choices for dessert. Although today’s the two choices we ordered were wonderful. Thank you so much for the great night.

Interesting menu and preparation. We enjoyed trying flame torched sushi-the ebi and scallop being the best. The sablefish was excellent; the seafood and soba noodles was good. Service was very professional, knowledgeable and delightful. Would recommend Minami.

Very nice upscale sushi restauant in Yaletown. Lots of unique & interesting menu items. Best go with 4 people or more so as to get a wide variety of the items to taste. Expect to pay premium prices for premium sushi experience. Would return again in a heartbeat! Make reservations early!

Went on the recommendation of a friend. Up there with the very best sushi I have eaten anywhere in the world. Fantastic flavors, perfectly seasoned and the sablefish entree was to die for. Will definitely go back the next time I am in Vancouver.

Minami did not at all live up to our expectations. Basically everything we had was just ok. Maybe we just don’t like aburi style, but all in all I’ve had many, many better sushi dining experiences.

I loved the restaurant and the food. The art and the effort in presenting the plates are amazing. Loved every bite. Service was great too. I was a bit disappointed with the noise and the lack of music. I thought it’s supposed to be a “diner a la chandelle” atmosphere and romantic but i wouldn’t categorize it as such. That is the only negative point i could think of.

The sushi stood out from the hundreds of sushi bars in Vancouver! Portions of the mains are on the smaller side so the value is a little off. The soba noodle bowl was probably the biggest and most filling main dish, it was also really flavourful. The sable fish was not as flavourful as I imagined (if you've ever been to Tao restaurant in Vegas, theirp miso glazed sable fish is out of this world). The sable fish portion was smaller as well so I wasn't very full afterward. Desserts included the coconut lime cheesecake (light flavours), and the green tea dessert. Both desserts were 5/10.

To be honest, the service was not very good. This includes the support staff who were supposed to help our very slow and not very attentive server. The food however was delicious which is the only reason why I would return.

We expected better here than what we got.

Yes it's Japanese food but it doesn't feel all that authentic. The service was friendly but the guys doing the cooking are all having a bit too much fun rather than providing the top quality food we'd expected.

This was average sushi at best.

Tried Minami for the first time this weekend and was pretty blown away! Love the lively atmosphere of the place–even though the noise level was energetic, it was still conducive for great conversation. Server was lovely and very attentive. Food was yummilicious! Great ambience for a date, or even a family dinner.

The service and food are good. Best dish was the salmon Oshi bites; the beef one was amazing. Overall, with the same price point, still would prefer to dine at Miku because of the ocean view. Also, the EBI fritter at Miku is better.

We were in the mood for Japanese food and we were misleded by the reviews into having dinner here, big mistake! There's nothing even remotely like real japanese food in this reastaurant, to be generous this is at best a fusion. The food is passable but the service is not, the ambience terrible and far from what you expect in a pricey japanese restaurant. Noise alone prevent you from having a normal convertsation without having to scream. They have an extremely limited list of sake and even wine list isn't what you can expect from a good restaurant. You go here you pay for the name of a 'in fashon' place that sell appearance more than substance
