About Minami Restaurant

Located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Yaletown, Minami Restaurant follows the pioneering footsteps of its sister restaurant, Miku, in delivering the innovative dining experience of Aburi cuisine to Vancouver's thriving food scene. Each piece of sushi is flame seared using a blowtorch and binchotan (oak charcoal), resulting in sushi with a smoky aroma and a melt-in-your-mouth texture.

From the kitchen, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients are integrated into Minami's dishes to reflect Vancouver's diverse flavours. This culinary approach evokes both the passion and beauty of Aburi cuisine, as each dish is artfully plated on custom-designed Arita Yaki plate ware hand picked by owner Seigo Nakamura from the artisan town of Arita, Japan.

Minami Restaurant offers a dynamic space for both dining and entertaining, including two private dining rooms, a seated lounge, hidden garden patio, and sushi bar.

This was the second visit. We were a party of three for lunch and we were not disappointed. My husband ordered the sashimi bowl. It was a generous portion and this together with the deep-fried calamari appetizer did not disappoint. Our guest and myself both ordered the tasting menu. It was very large selection of various small bites, could have easily been shared among two people, which we did not know. Everything on the platter was excellent, the roasted brussels sprouts were quite a surprise as well as the pork cheek. The presentation was very beautiful. The tea served with the meal again was very different than your ordinary green tea, there was this hint of roasted, very difficult to define but definitely very complimentary to the entire meal. This will not be the last visit. Thank you to the chefs and the waitstaff.

Really fantastic Aburi Oshi Sushi, Octopus appetizer was exquisite! Dinner was paired with a hot Junmai Sake and that tops it all!

The food is awesome especially the desserts. I would recommend the aburi beef and the matcha dessert.

The light was to dark, The duck that we ordered was a little bit salty and the Server needed to smile more. I asked for a sweet drink but she recommended a sour drink

Interesting twist on sushi, very tasty and fresh, nice drink options both alcoholic and non. Steak was also delicious. Don't miss the bites and ebi-fritters, yum!

Saturday lunch. Food was great. Fish fresh and cut well. Oshi is decent. Rice a little loose sometimes. Ambience lacking a little. Probably better at dinner.

Family favorite Sushi restaurant. We've capped off our ski vacation in Whistler 2 years in a row at Minami before flying home. Incredible!

Came here few times, the food seems meet top of the notch, but the service is very unstable. It was Christmas Eve, our waitress isn’t happy at all. Lack of greeting, lack of smile, lack of service. Coming to ask how is the food, but not filling up the water or cleaning up some empty dish, or getting me the napkin I asked earlier isn’t gonna make the food taste any better. Upon check out, she is gone! No where to be found for over 10 minutes. Luckily another management came by for the payment. I would expect great service from this restaurant. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you don’t. The food is always great. But still need to improve on varieties. Thanks.

a great meal. Our waiter Kenji created our personalized menu with an amazing selection of sushi, rolls and sashimi. Great service and the flavors and presentation were off the chart.

We brought our one year's old baby to the restaurant for celebrating my husband's birthday. But the restaurant set us a table right beside patio doors. Very cold and windy there. My husband had to wear the puffy jacket all the time. I got a cold there. They might concern about noise from my baby, so they set up a table at the corner. It was a terrible setting for us.

Good place, the aburi sushis was the reason we went there ,but they were so cold for the first round ,and the service of our table seemed reluctant to serve us since we had a kid.

Came to Minami on an anniversary; ambience is memorable and cocktails were interesting. Our main (duck) was dry and perceived value of the total meal was low. Had higher expectations.

Amazing food, and a better vibe than their sister restaurant Miku in my opinion. More of a cozy date spot rather than a business meeting restaurant.
