About Minami Restaurant

Located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Yaletown, Minami Restaurant follows the pioneering footsteps of its sister restaurant, Miku, in delivering the innovative dining experience of Aburi cuisine to Vancouver's thriving food scene. Each piece of sushi is flame seared using a blowtorch and binchotan (oak charcoal), resulting in sushi with a smoky aroma and a melt-in-your-mouth texture.

From the kitchen, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients are integrated into Minami's dishes to reflect Vancouver's diverse flavours. This culinary approach evokes both the passion and beauty of Aburi cuisine, as each dish is artfully plated on custom-designed Arita Yaki plate ware hand picked by owner Seigo Nakamura from the artisan town of Arita, Japan.

Minami Restaurant offers a dynamic space for both dining and entertaining, including two private dining rooms, a seated lounge, hidden garden patio, and sushi bar.

Amazing food, and a better vibe than their sister restaurant Miku in my opinion. More of a cozy date spot rather than a business meeting restaurant.

We ordered both ebi and salmon sushi for the main, to be honest, it was bit greasy for me, didn’t like it very much.

I am a food lover. I've travelled many countries just to go food hunting for the most amazing places and while this wasn't a planned food trip, I stumbled over minami while looking at a website so I made a last min booking and managed to get one and I'm glad I did because... This meal blew my mind. It was out of this world. Everything I had was like the first early morning ray of sunlight grazing my face as the night sky sneakily parts and I'm breathing in the salt-filled air of the beach. Fresh and oceanic. The dawn of a new day even though this was dinner. The prawns had a thick crispy beer batter drizzled in soy balsamic reduction, sweet chilli harrisa Mayo, yuzu vinaigrette, lying on a bed of kale quinoa salad and aonori tempura bits. On first bite it crunched causing a unison of the sauces on the palate followed by a chewy tender flesh of the prawns skipping gleefully on your tongue. The calamari was encrusted in a light crispy aonori tempura batter drizzled with a side of tosazu sauce giving it a sweet Sour after taste of the slithering creature accompanied with a side of Brussel sprout chips and Pickled tomato. The slightly grilled white saikyo miso yk3 sakekasu sablefish was the main highlight of the meal. The miso yuzu and wasabi tomato bell pepper compote creates a subtle Sour salty taste bringing life to the fat oceanic fish. Every bite felt like the fish was swimming playfully in your mouth. The most amazingly decadent silky fish that melts in your mouth. The ratio of the fat content of the fish was well balanced to the tender flesh. It was accompanied with a grilled jumbo tiger prawn, a crispy prawn dumpling which was full in flavour, savoury crunchy sauteed Asian greens, umami dashi marinated Japanese eggplant and Hoba leaf. It all blended so well like the harmony in the ocean and everything in it was as nature intended.

I had read so much hype about the restaurant’s oburi but was left disappointed. It was good but not outstanding. The rice did not melt in your mouth like Greenleaf Sushi in Kitsilano on West Broadway. My Brohm Lake Duck was good but again not outstanding. However, my wife’s Sablefish was exceptional. The atmosphere was great and so was the service.

For a birthday celebration, we splurged by ordering the chef’s tasting menu with paired Sake. The delay between courses was a bit long, but worth the wait. The best bite was a special sushi topped with a smidgen of olives centered over soy-sauce brushed yellow ? Sad to say, we didn’t get the name of the seafood. It was not yellowfin tuna. The server was fantastic!

First of all the noise level is unacceptable. I’m not the fine dining type of person and have high tolerance with noise in a restaurant but that was terrible. We literally had to yell at each other across the table in order to be heard. Also one of the servers was weird, he kept coming to us in between dishes asking if we are still going to order more, as if he wanted us to check and leave already. We told him that we were still waiting for some food to come and might order more depending on the size of the food that were yet to come, and he requested us to list them specifically (eg. which rolls/sashimi/nigiri), and we were like er do you want to just check your computer.
Overall, the dining experience at Minami was definitely unpleasant. For this price I think we have more options than that, so I don’t think we will consider going back in the near future.

Minami is one of m y favourite restaurants in Vancouver. Their salmon and saba oshi are the best things ever invented. They are melt-in-your mouth deliciousness. We also ordered the sablefish and the ebi fritters which were equally delicious. Service is always top notch and they're also so kind. I love this place!

Previous experiences at Minami have been very good so when we booked dinner for our anniversary I had high expectations. We had a 9.30pm booking and I was very disappointed with our evening. It took 30 minutes for us to be offered the option to order drinks, and although our waitress was friendly and professional she seemed rushed and too busy to serve us. For the price I would expect a lot more from the service and overall experience. We won't be going back in the near future. If the restaurant can't handle 9.30 bookings they shouldn't take them.

Love it! Huge improvement. Love our waitresses Traci. Almost made our dinning to perfection! High expectation met finally. The new menu is very delicious and creative. You still got the original favor just with a better creative way. Outstanding. It is good to continuously improving the dishes. I would like to see more choices for dessert. Although today’s the two choices we ordered were wonderful. Thank you so much for the great night.
