Ate at the sushi bar. Service was a bit spotty. Our waitress kept disappearing.
Aburi is top notch. Opera cake is my fave
Meal was Perfect as always
Amazing service! Great attention to details!
The service was very slow even though the restaurant didn’t seem very busy. In addition, they brought us the wrong meal after waiting an eternity. They eventually brought the correct meal, but there was no apology or compensation. Would not go back.
Come here for the valentine’s day. As usually greeted with pleasant staff. The main waitress is always my most concern for a lot of my visit. Sometimes I get lucky to have some warm family loving one, but occasionally I get one that doesn’t do the job well and today is one of them. After ordering the food, she only came once for checking. I had order dessert from other, table wasn’t clean for dessert, green tea didn’t get refilled once. Let me make it clear, the restaurant isn’t busy at all for such date. For food, I love the valentine’s special dessert!! Amazing! Wish i can eat that instead consistently having green opera is the only choice. P.S. good luck after March once most of the street parking gone!
My fiance and I went here on our first date almost 4 years ago. Since then, Minami has been our special occasion date spot, and it's always fantastic.
Food was very good but the service was a bit on the slow side.
I was looking forward to try Minami, but I have to say that my experience was very disappointing. I like aburi sushi and tried at different restaurants including Miku (long time ago). Minami aburi (all three types) were just simply below average. Rolls were ok. But not worth the price. Also, the place was very loud. I made a reservation a month ago for my special date, and when we arrived, the server gave us the table right in front of the enterance. I was literally facing people waiting. There were empty tables further inside. I didn't complain because I didn't want to ruin the day, but shouldn't those tables for walk-in people? In addition to loud crowd, we had to constantly be inturupped by "how many?" Or "please come this way" etc. It was almost embarrassing sitting and eating so close to the enterance door. I will never go back. I can't understand why the place is so popular. I might try Miku again for good aburi.
Overall the experience was okay. The biggest disappointment was being welcomed by the hostess and being told "seriously, we need the table back in an hour and a half" even though we were on time for our reservation. There were plenty of tables, and it took 5 minutes to seat us. When we finally got seated, they put us in the corner where there was no one else. We asked to be moved to the main area.
LOVE the aburi oshi, the champagne roll was delish. You guys are one of my fav restaurants in yaletown.
Too long to wait for food.
It was awesome with all the food especially the desserts
made a reservation and came on a whim not knowing it was still dineout. food was fantastic
but its not worth the price. total bill was 150 and i was still hungry after. overall cool place with great food but pricey for what you get
$130 for literally $10 in Costs for pre-made plates.
the food portion was tiny, not full at all. totally not worth 40 dollar
We went here for the dine out menu. It was filling and good testing but the service was very limited. It took so long for the server to get to our table even though they went to all the tables surrounding us. No server asked about how the food was and they seemed like they just wanted our table to leave as soon as we were finished with our meals.
Went with my wife and daughter for dine out Vancouver. They seated us at a table that was able to accommodate our stroller. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend others to go. Salmon oishi was awesome.
We went there for dine out 2018 and the experience was terrible. If you want to have your Friday ruined, go there. They offered this $40 dine out menu. The appetizer was the Oshi bites with different toppings - that was amazing very delicious. However, things went downhill after it. We waited for a long time (about 40 mins) and noticed sth was off. No one came and tell us anything so we checked with the waitress. Our waitress didn’t apology and left saying she would check on our food with an attitude while we were still talking to her. I could see her rolling her eyes at us when she walked away. That service was not acceptable at all especially after we waited for 40 mins. The table next to us who didn’t order dine out menu. Their food came one after the other - no wait at all. I could hear that they ordered sth after us but received the food before us. For the 40 mins, we just saw our waitress running back for forward for the table next to us. It made me feel like somehow because we were ordering the “cheaper” option, we didn’t need to be serve well. When our entree finally came, the food was absolutely garbage. One a little bigger than a man-thumb size beef shank and 4 undercooked over-season prawn with 3 water boiled Yau-Choi (Asian veggie you can get from T&T for $1.5 per bag), and some mashed potato sauce on the side. The entree was awful - Iike an $8 Ikea dinner set. That was a huge disappointment considering we are paying for a $40 menu! They defintely went cheap on the entree. Dessert was a earl grey mousse cake which was nothing special. It was like a $20 dinner but we paid $40 for it. Our Friday night was definitely ruined after our experience with Minami. For their $$ price, terrible service and awful quality of the entree, I wouldn’t go there ever again.
We went to Minami for a lunch date during Dine Out. Minami also has their Premium Zen set menu, and we ordered one Dine Out set and one Premium Zen set to share between the both of us. Both sets were delicious, rich and vibrant flavours were present in the dishes, without blending in with each other too much. Our server was extremely attentive to our needs and gave us great recommendations for drinks!
Dine Out lunch was great! (Bigger portions than Dine Out dinner) and everything was delicious. Servers were knowledgeable and very attentive! Thanks Minami!
Went here for dineout vancouver 2018, the flavours did not make sense. the experience seemed like there was lack of thought for how they would all come together. For instance, the appetizer was 4 different types of oshi sushi with a yuzu glaze/sauce that overpowered the flavours of the ingredients (although the scallop oshi was the best out of the four), the entree was surf and turf which was half earthy stew like meat and half cajun spiced shrimp that did not belong on the same plate, and the dessert was earl grey mousse which wasnt great because the mousse itself had too much gelatin or that pastey feeling after each bite and the crumbles around it did not complement the earl grey mousse. the chocolate base was boring and so plain. Overall, as a dinner experience that was already preset, as in the menu was built for this order and ingerdients, I did not enjoy it. As a restaurant, Their ambiance and service is incredible and accomodating. I have also been to this restaurant multiple times ala carte and their sushi is very fresh which made it tasty and beautifully presented.
Dine out menu was well portioned and delicious.
My friend and I came to Minami for dineout Vancouver. Because they were busy, the waitresses forgot about us (we were squished in a corner despite making reservations one month in advance) until the manager walked by. However, after we got our order in, service was quick. The dineout menu was in high demand so many of the dishes were already prepped and sitting out. Food came immediately but was no longer warm. Despite this, my friend and I made the best of it by ordering other items off the menu. Would definitely go back for delicious sushi but not during dineout.
Good Japanese food menu, tasty and food presenting great. Service excellent and great team work among staff. Will definitely return.
Tried the Dine out Vancouver option....the menu sounded good but was quite bland considering the ingredients. Atmosphere not what I expected with kids running around and diapers changed at the table next to us. Waited 8 minutes for my Sake to be heated traditionally yet it was served in a normal glass decanter. If you are looking for Japanese quality then I suggest you go somewhere else
Great place for friends get together. Came here for dine out lunch it it was excellent to try a little bit of everything.
It was my son’s Birthaday , i want him to have delicious food on his birthday , and Minami resto did not disappoint me my son enjoy the food and so did I , it was
A vancouver dine outc
I went here twice for dine out! Never fail to satisfy me 😊
When Dineout Vancouver kicked off this year my family made sure to book a time for Minami as our experience with them was amazing last year. Their food was delicious with decent portions for appetizer, entree and dessert.
Fast forward to 2018 Dineout at Minami it was a night and day difference in their dineout offerings.
The portion for 2018 was pathetic compared to 2017. Starting with appetizer last year we had a salad along with 7 pieces of aburi sushi but this year they only offered 4 aburi pieces. Entree was also a small piece of shank meat and 4 small shrimps this year compared to last year when we had half a lobster tail and a choice between a white fish (really good) and beef.
My family and I were disappointed by the restaurant's drastic change in 2018 to not only cheap out on their portions for apptizer and entree but also not offering an option for entree like last year.
If we had to choose our favorite dine out last year it was an easy choice: Minami but this year Minami is our least favorable dine out by far.
If the dineout menu looks similar to 2018 for Minami years going forward we will be skipping them every year.
The first 4 photos are from 2017 dineout. 2018 are last 2 photos minus the dessert you can only upload 6.
