So, we came here to celebrate Father's Day luncheon. Ordered the Zen special. It was good. But the bowl of rice we ordered for my daughter came half cooked. The grains hasn't even bloomed. I had no idea how they could've scooped out rice before it was cooked, or was too little water used. Perhaps the person didn't even check to see if the rice was even cooked. For a Japanese restaurant, that's an absolutely no-no. For a high-end Japanese restaurant, that's just... My daughter has inherited my love for rice and when she told me the rice tasted odd, I dismissed it. Until she didn't want to eat it anymore. (which is quite unusual). So I tried a tiny bit. Boy oh boy oh boy. Other than that, our lunch was exquisitely prepared. We loved the dessert, aside from my favorite salmon aburi.
It was amazing!
We’ve been here couple of times and always valued high on food, service, and atmosphere. Yet this time the hostesses were not polite in a mocking way when I entered and try to make a conversation. On the other hand, the dishes we ordered are delicious as before. Oysters, pressed Saba aburi, sashimi are outstanding. Brussel sprouts were burnt. Our waiter is friendly and aware of our dining progress.
We had an outstanding experience! A party of six, service excellent and suggestions were amazing and to our liking for all my guests. We weren’t rushed at all. Can’t wait to return on my next visit to Vancouver 😊
Excellent service from start to finish. Tasty food with excellent presentation. Water glasses were always kept full. Could not have asked for more.
Great and free birthday dessert!!!
Overall my dinner was good but not VERY good.
From appy, entree and dessert, it took us 2.5 hours to complete the dinner; is it normal!?
One the most pleasant food and atmosphere places I´ve ate.
Excellent! Had the chef's tasting menu. Service was very good. Will definitely come back.
good as usual but also out of the Toro sashimi as usual
and a bit too loud but I like the food so you need to suck it up
We sat out in the patio and it was lovely and quite. Our server Mikey (female) was lovely.
Their beef carpaccio is the absolute best that we had to order a second one!
Sliiightly disappointed that on our second order, they used iceberg lettuce instead of the original arugula. So I kind of felt like shortchanged there.
Food was impeccable once again. I go to this restaurant often and it never disappoints. There was a group of 4 of us and we enjoyed everything. Only one dish we weren't fond of, but it was more of a personal taste than anything. They kindly removed the charge from our bill which was unexpected. Service is always on point here. Never have to ask for water refills, etc. They have some new premium absuri sushi that was really delicious and fresh, great quality.
Nice food display and good quality with fusion-like entree’s option
I eat here 4 days a week, yes 4. Always amazing. From the staff to the food, can’t beat this spot when it comes to quality sushi.
Was booked a window table, but they gave us a very dark table which was no impressive. Food was pricy compare with the quality of food.
Did not live up to the reviews it got. Quality and presentation were excellent, most of the tastings were good not great.
It’s my first time leaving a bad review.
I had a reservation at 11:30am. Staff were doing there morning huddle until 11:45. So we had to wait 15 min to be seated even though the reservation was at 11:30. Isnt the morning huddle supposed to be done before you open? While we were waiting, I heard other person asking the hostess about the parking and the hostess replied “i don’t drive so i don’t know about parking”
We ordered Minami premium zen lunch which is $45 per person. Tuna and salmon sashimi weren’t fresh. I guess they mostly serve aburi sushi so don’t care much about the grade of raw sashimi? Pork belly had very gamey smell, i couldn’t swallow one bite. Waitress cleaned up my plate while i was still chewing my food. I felt very rushed. Ordered green tea(sencha/ryokucha) but it was genmaicha. Overall very disappointing experience, will not go back.
Completely mediocre - felt like assembly line sushi. Nigiri was mediocre at best. Seared dish that they are known for was solid.
It's my daughter's 12 birthday, she loves Japanese food so I decided to take her here. We had a wonderful time however, our server was mediocre and somewhat rude. She wasn't knowledgeable about the menu. At the end of the evening she brought us the bill, I started to calculate her gratuity. She asked me if I would like the machine, because I was in the middle of calculating her 20%, I stated just a minute, she stated "do you want the machine yes or no?" I found her quite rude and impatient throughout the entire evening, as if she was in a hurry to get somewhere. My daughter couldn't finish her meal she asked to take it home, our server didn't even close the box. I wasn't going to give her anything but my daughter insisted that I do, so I cut her gratuity in half. I enjoyed the food, the steak was super tender. The other server that helped out was warm and welcoming, I especially liked the one that offered to take the picture for us without us asking. It would have been more remarkable if we had a better server.
I've been here so many times and each time the food is delicious! After moving to Montreal, I make a point to make sure to come here for the aburi when I'm back in town. You can't find it better anywhere else! Thank you :)
Celebrated a birthday tonight and it was great! Outside seating on their lovely patio is definitely recommended.
Requested bill to come to me (only female at table) but didn’t. Waiter although very nice, interrupted a few times in a little less ideal manner. Otherwise he was amazing. Good terrific. I’m a usual and our out of town guests were very impressed.
The female servers who sat us and actually took care the whole time were both very professional, polite, nice and accomodating. (Many thanks!) The Head Chef, Jay is such a great friendly person and very likeable. He's a gem for the company for sure!
The ambience was nice especially outside patio but the inside was a bit too loud to be honest, with music and people's shouting and talking...etc. (My family prefer quiet dinning;-)
The food was very fresh and delicious and we all enjoyed very much. Only thing we might want to add a comment and to be honest for the future reference, all of us actually noticed later on that there was MSG in the food. We all actually had reactions after we left and we are sensitive to it so we might not be able to eat your great food again unless you could somehow alternate not to use it only for some customers or change the policy/cooking method. That's the only regret we felt because we couldn't deny the side effects we had to endure that night....We're sorry to let you know about this.
Nonetheless the experience while we were there was very pleasant and enjoyable.
Thank you very much!
I had the mother's day premium zen lunch. The aburi sushi came too quickly (after I had just started on my first Kobachi dish) and did not taste very fresh after I had finished the rest of the Kobachi dishes.
Nice restaurant. Good service. Interesting style of searing the sushi and rolls. Worth trying but not great as far as the flavor of the food.
Friendly and attentive service. Food was good for the price.
Exemplary service as usual. We received a complimentary amuse bouche of coconut sorbet, balsamic reduction and microgreens which was tasty and refreshing. The aburi sushi experience was outstanding as well. It is always a pleasure to watch the sushi chefs from the bar!
Singularly the best sushi dining experience my wife & I have enjoyed. We had heard of Minaj from others. Upon our arrival we asked our sever, Jeremy, to feed us! He brought out food unique to Minami, some more traditional pieces & a few of their popular dishes. He limited the aunties of each so that we could enjoy the variety. Our evening was perfect — great food, professional, knowledgeable service both in a bustling spirited dining room.
Bugs on my plate, no offer for any solution. I can’t even tell if he just wipe the bug down & give it back to me
Food was impecable. Everything was really good. Service was perfect.
Everything from food to the service and setting was superb!
Awesome place with the best salmon sushi! But not recommend the steak they have. Super nice service, they offer birthday special dessert with candles. Very sweet!
Great food, good service, maybe a little too loud for my taste. I would go again but ask for a quieter table. They were very good about accommodating our dietary issues. It might appeal to me more for lunch.
Absolutely amazing food! Best sushi ever! Very good and fast service! Very interesting to watch the cooks doing their work in the open kitchen and preparing the food that looks like very elegant art work.
Amazing food, service was great.
Simone is a fantastic server, we had a great dining experience with her.
Will be back when in Vancouver.
Excellent aburi sushi, some of the best creations in town.
The Signature sushi/nigiri plate was out of this world - but I wouldn't want to share it! I arrived hungry and was still hungry after the sushi/nigiri, so I ordered the fried calamari appetizer. Although acceptable, was too heavy after the lightness of the first plate. I wish I had ordered sushi instead. Dessert (earl grey mousse) was artfully presented and tasted quite good, but the sushi/nigiri was the standout and what I would come back for.
The staff catered superbly to my allergy to onions and garlic, and took superb care about that (unlike many other restaurants I've dined at during this trip). Definitely worth going back for the fish.
My girlfriend and I both had the Tartine and a dessert. They were delicious but we should’ve shared the dessert as the tartine was quite filling.
