Milwaukee ChopHouse Ratings and Reviews
Food was delicious, but a bit overpriced.
Service was terrible, and the restaurant wasn't full or busy. Our waiter was rude to us, food was not cooked to temperature and we had to hail down food runners to get more drinks.
Plus, gratuity was automatically included for a table of 6 even though we ordered and paid as 3 separate couples.
Short: Nice ambiance, friendly restaurant staff, yummy bread/condiments/salads. All other food was heavily laden with garlic - unfortunate and disappointing. Arrived at 7 for 7:15 reservations, seated at 7:15 - perfect. Went to the small bar for a pre-dinner drink and waited 8 min. to order when only 4 couples present; had just a few sips of beer before seating. Seated at a large table for just the two of us: semi-private, nice booth with wrap around bench seat. Quickly acknowledged by serving staff. Waiter gave us about 5 min. to view menu and we asked for a little more time - then it took about 10 minutes for his return (a bit long). The sourdough rolls were great, and the blue cheese butter was awesome! The seasonal poached pear salad was excellent, as was the Cesar salad. I ordered the 6 oz filet MR and hubby ordered the 14 oz dry-aged rib-eye M. Both steaks were beautiful - perfectly cooked, nice flavors, tender, etc. Not sure if the garlic was right in the steaks, because after one bite of a side dish, my taste buds were out of commission. We ordered three sides to share (incredibly generous portions!): garlic mashed potatoes (for hubby only), lobster mac & cheese, and sauteed mushrooms. Garlic mashed were standard fare, a bit thin and over-garlicky. Mushrooms were almost wonderful (if not for the heavy garlic). The lobster m&c would have been a stand-out without the offensive garlic: huge chunks of wonderful lobster, al dente curly macaroni and a nice cheese sauce - but who puts garlic in m&c??? Yuck! Their menu should come with a warning that all sides are heavy on garlic so folks can order food without the horrible stuff! Plenty of leftovers, but only hubby could eat them the next day and even he chose to toss the potatoes and mushrooms, eating just leftover steak and m&c. I felt funky all evening and all the next day due to the garlic overdose that killed what could have been an extraordinary meal. Would return only if food can be prepared garlic-free.
I had ordered a large prime rib, cooked medium rare. It came in the smaller cut size. I requested it be replaced with the appropriate size cut of meat. It came back the appropriate size but was now rare and cool to the touch. Worst of all, however, the meat was tough.
The service was spotty at best. The waiter was not attentive to us, having to be hailed to our table on several occasions. He failed to bring a second glass of wine as requested, as well as forgetting to validate our parking stub as he had promised. To his credit, the waiter did give us a free dissert, but by that time it was too late to resurrect an overall disappointing dining experience.
Was late for my reservation, due to the show being late and the roads. Understandable, when they told me 15-20 minutes and sit at the bar. Sat at the bar, and ordered 1 drink and the bartenders never even said another word to us. We were the only 2 at the bar at the time. The 2 bartenders were not busy. I guess it saved me 10.50 for another Old Fashion. After about an hour an older couple came in and said they didn't have reservations and wanted to know if they could sit down for dinner, since they were staying at the hotel. They got seated, and we got up and left. I realize we were late, but this was ridiculous. I cant rate food since i have not eaten there in a while
Shared a lovely dinner for two Christmas eve. Our second time visiting for this occasion. We thoroughly enjoy the staff. The steak was a bit overcooked, while the mashed potatoes with garlic only tasted like garlic. The salad, sides, and dessert were awesome as is their wine selection. My glass was suggested by the waiter and he nailed my taste. Fabulous atmosphere and Christmas decor was beautiful.
Great food. My only negative is that the bus boys ( not our waitress) tried to clear my plate before I was finished eatting dinner and my son's plate was cleared 10 minutes before my husband finished his dinner. My son was finished but I wish they would wait until everyone at the table was finished. It interrupted the flow of our conversation. they came over twice to ask different people at our table if they were finished. Only half the tables were occupied. there was no rush.
Overall I was very happy. The only thing that was a let down, kind of a major let down, was the quality of prime rib. I was hoping a steakhouse would have provided a little better slab of meat. Bad prime rib, is still pretty good. But I was hoping for better.
All in all, I'm still happy with my experience. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. Next time around, I'll order the Filet.
We had a great dining experience at the Milwaukee Chop House, exemplary service from obviously highly trained professionals at every station. The food was great. We especially enjoyed the seafood sampler ahead of the main course. The only change we would suggest is to tone down the sound level of the music. We felt it was above background level, if not a bit distracting.
They "cancelled" my OpenTable reservation, even though our group was there. Food was good, service spotty. Multiple items ordered either never showed up or arrive inaccurately prepared. Getting the bill took several requests over more than 15 minutes, and paying it was another 15-plus minute ordeal. It may have been a bad night for the older gentleman serving us. The ambiance was solid, and food quality was strong.
We were so happy and excited to be celebrating our son's engagement. The Chop House seemed like the Perfect place! The restaurant was not busy. Our waiter was awful. It felt like we were BOTHERING him with every simple request. I hope if he reads this he knows I am talking about him. My guess is he will not care. Too bad really!
The service was wonderful and the food so very, very good. We love the atmosphere also. We love dining here. It is truly a very special restaurant. Only complaint is the bar is too small. We stood and had a cocktail before dinner but no place to sit at a table or bar. Otherwise, wonderful dining...
This is my go-to-spot when I'm in town visiting my son who's in college. We've tried other steakhouses in the past and they're either pretentious or overpriced or both relative to the Chophouse which just seems to have the right combination of humility and quality.
Restaurant has a pleasant soothing ambiance. Service was impeccable. Good wine list with reasonable bottle prices. The bread was very good (fully crusted not sliced). The crust was not too hard, soft inside and fairly light. It comes with regular butter, bleu cheese butter, a tomato spread, and dipping oil. The regular butter and dipping oil were as one would expect. The bleu cheese butter had a good flavor and was not overpowering. I did not care for the tomato spread, but that was on me (not a tomato fan) not the spread.
I had the 10oz Heritage filet requested medium-rare. It was done perfect. It was extremely tender (barely had to put pressure on the knife) and melted in my mouth. The flavor was exquisite, made even better by the mixture they brush on top. The waitress explained what it was, but I have forgotten. I believe it was butter, salt, pepper, and perhaps shallots.
My companion had the New York Strip requested medium-rare, and added the Oscar. It was a bit over cooked and a little tougher than it should have been, but by no means inedible. She felt the flavor was "ok". The crab cake was delicious, the asparagus was good, but the Hollandaise was just so-so.
We split the trio of sides, which was more than enough for two. The baby carrots with maple, bourbon and cumin were out of this world, tender but with enough snap to not be soggy. The creamed corn was excellent. The creamed spinach was different than others I have had. It was not creamy in the usual sense (this is a little hard to explain), where your spinach is perhaps sauteed and then mixed with other ingredients to make it creamy, but to a consistency that holds it together and allows you to keep it on your fork. This was like sauteed spinach had a cream sauce added to it and lightly mixed. the bowl was full of liquid and it was drippy when you picked it up. I thought it tasted okay, her not so much.
Will be back to try other dishes. You cannot go wrong with the filet.
My wife and I had a great time. We were celebrating our 17th. year anniversary and could not ask for such a pleasant evening. We ordered the scallops for an appetizer, it was to die for. The steaks cooked to perfection, and the sides were great. To top it off our waiter Mitch found out we were celebrating our anniversary that night and gave my wife some chocolate cake and ice cream on the house. What else can a guy ask for. I thought the prices for the food was very reasonable. Thanks for a great time.
We came on a recommendation of one of our friends who was with us last Saturday, she has eaten here several times in the past. This experience was far from the great fine dining experience that we were expecting based on her past experiences. Not sure if I would go back. Presently waiting for a reply from management.
Amazing time at the Chophouse. Pre-cocktail drinks were very well prepared. Server, Megan, did an outstanding job. Started with warm bread and three delicious butters and olive oil. Had a three scallop appetizer cooked perfectly. Skipped the soup/salad round to have more room for the delicious entrees, I had a six oz filet with a lobster tail and DH had the 18oz bone in ribeye, both cooked spot on. We shared a trio of sides; asparagus, mushrooms and mashed potato. After all of that and our tummys full, they surprised us with a rich chocolate cake with strawberries and ice cream. Our food and service outstanding and we will definitely return for another delicious anniversary meal.
I was very impressed with the manager who gave off "good energy" He made us feel special on our anniverary. Being from Racine we don't go to Milwaukee very often but our meal at the Chop House was worth the trip. We'll be back and recommend it ot our friends and business associates.
