About Milton Inn

The Milton Inn, a 276 year old field-stone building in Northern Baltimore County,is counted among Maryland's historic treasures. It is believed that construction of the Inn began in 1740 and it has grown and changed over the years to become one of the premier country dining spots in the United States. The tradition of excellence has continued to grow under the current ownership Milton Fare Inc, who purchased the business in 1997. Executive Chef/Owner Brian Boston was named Chef of the Year by the Restaurant Association of Maryland in 2011.Chef Boston has also received many other awards including The Five Star Diamond Award by The Academy of Hospitality Sciences , The DiRoNA Award, and top ratings from Zagat. The Milton was named The Best restaurant in the Counties by The Baltimore Sun . Over the years , the Inn has engendered a legacy of romance and numerous couples have become engaged in its candlelit dining rooms and open air garden terrace. Many return year after year to celebrate!

Just very pricey for what you get....need to have some lighter options. Last two times we went were “stuck” in back room behind bar. Not near as nice as other rooms ...tight and small.

All n all, though, probs the nicest place in Baltimore Cnty for a special occasion dinner.

I was very disappointed in the seating arrangements. This restaurant is known for it's Victorian charm. We did not get to enjoy this as we were seated in a section of the restaurant that reminded me of a woodshed. The seating was too close & very inconvenient. We had to slide our table to the side in order for the people sitting next to us to go to the restroom. Our waitress had to lean across the table to serve my wife & the guest sitting next to us. A good potion of my night was spent leaning to my left in order to make room for the waitress as she was struggling to do her job. If this were my first experience at The Milton Inn, It would not have left a good impression. We did not enjoy our night at this restaurant for this special occasion.

The food was impeccable. Our server was very good, but she was the only one in our dining area (fireplace room), and so the wait was a little longer than we preferred. Also, we waited quite awhile from appetizer to entree. The clams casino and oyster imperial were delicious for our appetizer. For our entrees, the rockfish and rack of lamb were succulent and very well presented. The lamb could have been hotter, but the taste was still wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant, but be aware that the service is a bit lacking with wait times a bit too long.

This was our first trip and very disappointing. Our server greeted us without a wine list or specials, both of which he had to retrieve separately. By itself, these are not a big deal, but it should have been an indication of things to come. The service overall was very slow. We like a slower pace, especially at this price point. The Prime Rib in Baltimore does it best, this was just slow, period. The Maryland Crab soup was very full of crab meat, but the vegetable broth was among the poorest tasting I have ever had. Once I finished the several lumps of backfire, I left the remainder of the soup. My Filet Chesapeake special, medium rare, was not of a high enough caliber to be served at Outback, and it was medium well at best. The crab cake was average. My wife's tuna was also very tasteless as were the short ribs another guest order. I will say that the rockfish special ordered by the fourth guest was very good and clearly the plate we should have all ordered.
I am really not that picky, my wife and I met as servers in a restaurant, but between the slow service and the lukewarm and mostly poor food, I cannot recommend this for a $450 dinner for four.

Heard of this place through a friend, so decided to take my wife here for her birthday and we were very impressed with the ambiance, quality of food, and level of service. Definite recommend for friends and we plan on returning soon.

This was my first experience at the Milton Inn, and I would have to say it was very good, but not great. Although the food was cooked perfectly some of the side dishes lacked seasoning. My wife got the lobster tails with the cheese grits and I got the salmon with risotto and spinach. The grits were bland as was my risotto. A little bit of attention to the sides would have pushed my review to an outstanding but this was not the case. I got the macadamien torte for dessert which was delicious, but my wife got the vanilla bean creme brulee which was not up to par. I have made creme brulee many times using real vanilla bean and every time I've made it there was a trace of vanilla bean in every ramekin. It was evident that this was not the case at the Milton Inn. It felt like false advertisement to me. Going to a high end restaurant I was expecting a little more.

Had not been to this restaurant in at least 20 years but had previously gone for our anniversary dinner. I was happy to see a similar but updated version of the restaurant-perfect for a special occasion or a great meal. The restaurant week menu was a bargain. The menu prices are a bit high but you get what you pay for. We truly enjoyed our 32nd anniversary.

We had a lovely table right by the fireplace. The service started6 out great. Appetizer served. Not half way through appetizer, main course. While I was eating a server, not our server told me to get up,my chair was in the way. Standing up,chewing while he moved our table and my chair. We had to ask for the reminder to our bottle of wine to be served. The young man who serves the bread had to assist us. Lovely dinner, but, left feeling rushed, not relaxed.

We ate off the Restaurant Week menu on Sunday night and the food was outstanding. My wife had the chicken liver pate and filet; I had the mussels and pork tenderloin. The food was great and we both loved our choices. It was an unofficial anniversary for us and the waiter brought a delicious, sweet champagne to top of our visit. We'll continue to use the Milton Inn as a favorite for delicious meals.

When we arrived we were told that we didn't have a reservation. This is the second time in a year that this has happened. This time the hostess doubted my word that I had a reservation until I produced my OpenTable confirmation. 15 minutes later someone else from the staff came to our table and in front of all the guests to ask me to again produce the OpenTable confirmation. It was quite embarrassing. Chef Boston was rude and the manager was condescending. It doesn't much matter how good the food is when one is treated shabbily.

The Milton Inn is a classic place for fine dining. The ambiance is elegant, the service attentive, and the food excellent.

One caveat: if you don't like garlic, you need to ask whether there is garlic in anything you order. The filet, which is wonderful, can be ruined by the butter they put on top of it, which is highly flavored with garlic. Vegetables can come sauteed in garlic. Some forms of potatoes can have garlic in them. So ask in advance to avoid being surprised.

The service was outstanding. Our waiter was quite attentive and knowledgeable about the options. We were there for brunch. I started out with muscles and I curry sauce which was really excellent. Next-door had the salmon which was perfectly prepared. My daughter had the French toast really enjoyed it. The chocolate mousse dessert and sorbet we’re also really delicious. I will look forward to my return visit.

A wonderful by chance 'find' after a business meeting. Housed in a quaint, elegant 1740 Inn, the restaurant provided a superb lunch. We started with the Grilled Wild Boar Sausage (the house made cranberry chutney was superb). My son dined on the Grilled New Zealand Rack of Lamb while I enjoyed the Roasted Pork Tenderloin. Both were prepared as requested and the accomplishments were great (I particularly enjoyed the wilted spinach sauteed in garlic and olive oil). We wash the meal down with a couple glasses of Chateau La Cardonne. Simply, enjoyable.

We visited the Milton Inn for a special night out. We were not disappointed! We sat in the back, near the bar, because we love this room. It is quaint and not as formal as the dining room. The food was exceptional. I had the filet and crab cake with béarnaise sauce. Melt in your mouth perfection! My husband had the tuna, and also enjoyed his meal. We also enjoyed our winter salad, hummus, and torte desert. Nothing was ordinary about our meal. The service was first class. We love this place! What a Maryland gem.

This was on a Thursday evening: sword fish was slightly under cooked, venison significantly over cooked, waiter was distracted, forgot birthday (as noted in OpenTable reservation). Beautiful restaurant and generally very pleasant, but for $$$$ it missed the mark. Aside from forgetting the birthday request, waiter provided the evening 'specials' in rapid-fire succession. When asked to repeat several, he again 'rattled' them off.

Never, ever again. we entered and waited for the hostess while she was on the telephone which apparently was more important than a live customer. After reading in the Sunpapers the Milton Inn is one of the ten restaurants to go to for a warm, roaring fire , we went. That room with fireplace was not being used-only the front room near the front door. We ate in our winter coats and shivered. Food was not worth the cold and we just wanted to finish so we could leave and get warm. Actually I am very sorry we went and will not make that mistake again.
