Millwright's Ratings and Reviews
Fourth out of five years here for Thanksgiving.Last seating reservation at 6pm.Portions much smaller this year. Were running out of Sides.(2 very small squares of stuffing for 3 Turkey dinners.Salmon piece was about 2 ounces as a main dish.Service was excruciatingly BAD.Obvious that the Waiter was not trained and did not want to be there. After being seated, waited 20 minuets to get water, another ten to get 1 small biscuit each.Dinner was served at 7pm. The ONLY redeeming part of our Overpriced Thanksgiving Dinner was the Dessert.2 large plates of home made cookies. We will NOT recommend Millwright's.We were not the only Guests dissatisfied with our Waiter.
Our reservation for Thanksgiving 2017 was for 5:30. The "lobby" was crowded, however, we were seated within 15 minutes of our reservation.
The starters: salad and roasted parsnips. We each enjoyed our choice.
The entees: NY Strip cooked M and the Meyer lemon roasted salmon. My dining companion complained that the steak was gristlely and tough. My salmon had a mild "fishy" taste, but that was made less noticable by the side of Brussel sprouts.
The sides: the Brussel sprouts and the mashed potatoes were good. The cranberry sauce and the dressing were not to our liking. The squash was OK.
The dessert tray was varied, and the choices delicious.
If the entrees had been up to Millwright's usual standards, I would have given the meal 5 stars.
Ambience was great - lots of charm - setting is perfect for upscale dining. Food was really good - menu is somewhat on small side - clearly because everything is fresh. Presentation of food was spot on. Our server - of which there only seemed to be 2 was the less personable one - the other one, a female, was quite chatty with her tables and very informative - ours was not and everything was extremely slow for us - but didn't seem so for other tables.
Millwright's is a consistently great dining experience.
The historic building is carefully restored to maximize the ambience of the setting and view of the river and waterfall.
The food is always special as are the staff.
I like to treat guests from afar to a special occasion, dining experience.
My wife and I chose Millwrights for our 5th wedding anniversary celebration dinner. We enjoyed the chef’s tasting menu, but brought our own special bottle of wine. The restaurant is beautiful, with a great view. Our server was fantastic - personable and very attentive. The dishes were beautiful, adventurous, and delicious. I would recommend Millwright’s for a fine dining experience or special occasion.
At this price point, you expect something special-and Millwright's delivers. The dishes are creative and delicious without being pretentious. The wine list has depth. The setting is delightful and they craft a fine mix of informality and elegance. They do an especially worthy rendition of many fish dishes. I don't think you will find a more pleasing dining experience within a 25 mile radius of Hartford.
Millwrights is a very good restaurant with excellent food and fine service, but the pressure to order the $80.00 per person tasting menu was in poor taste. Everyone at the table was disappointed by the repeated attempts to sell "the chef" and his choices for us. We simply wanted to enjoy the great food and have a good time. In the end, that's what we did!
This was our 4th visit and once again, the food was awesome, and our waitress was excellent. We needed help picking a good bottle of red wine - the somalier was very knowledgeable and the bottle that was excellent. We will definitely be back again. Hats off to the chef!!!
We drove an hour to go to this restaurant and it was 100% worth the effort. We did the tasting menu with the wine pairings and it was one of the best tasting menus I have ever had. Over 7 courses we had everything from fresh oysters to foie gras to quail to monkfish and every course was better than the last. Our waitress did an amazing job pairing our wines and even added an extra pairing because the fish course had changed and she wanted to make sure everything matched perfectly. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Connecticut area. It will be worth the drive!
I've been to Millwrights many times in the past few years. The tavern, brunch and dinner. We often go for birthdays. The staff is always really great. It's easy to make reservations on OpenTable. Everyone in the kitchen is skilled at their creations. Love!!
Fantastic tasting menu with perfectly balanced drink pairings. Beautiful warm interior with gorgeous views outside. Expensive, but still an excellent value for the money. If you transplanted Millwright to NYC or even Hartford, you'd pay three times as much with 1/4 the ambiance, warmth, and personal service. Perfect for a special occasion evening you won't forget.
This was, by far and away, the best meal I’ve ever had. My friend and I both had the tasting menu with drink pairings, and could not have been happier with the entire experience. From the second we sat down to the end of the meal, the staff was helpful and attentive to everything we needed (especially our server Ron). The food was delicious beyond compare. Each dish was complex and full of fresh wonderful flavors. The wine was also perfectly paired to the very unique palate of the tasting. If you have a passion for cuisine, this is an absolute must.
Millwright's was fantastic!! I went there with my fiance who is a chef and we both were very happy with the food! We did the tasting menu and we definitely do not regret the decision. I am not an adventurous eater, but that night I went for it. Most of the dishes I ate were not what I would have ordered for myself, but I enjoyed each one. Since my fiance is a chef, he is an incredibly picky eater and he loved every single dish.
We will need to come in every time the menu changes for the tasting menu!
Would definitely come here again and have already recommended this restaurant to friends.
