Excellent meal . It was Sunday night so there were few people there. There was only one waitress so the service was slow. We were there for three hours. Other than that everything was excellent and we will be back again.
Overpriced. The food presentation is beautiful but we had three different selections that all were mediocre at best. It was also very disappointing to have a wine list that is both considerably over market up charges coupled with the fact that there was little/no mid-priced selections. They try to make it up by having per glass selections (which were fine), but no reason they could not offer more of a selection of bottle choices. Ironically, we spoke with 2 different families/couples about our thoughts - thinking - maybe it was an off night - but they concurred with our comments.
Wonderful place to take my wife on her Birthday. Great meal!
Love this place. One of my top choices for special dinners in the Hartford area. Great food, views, ambiance and service.
Food was excellent. Indulged in the 7 course sampler. There are essentially 3 rows of tables, I would recommend not sitting in the center row. Felt as if we were always in the way of the wait staff. Our server was very pleasant, but not very attentive. Always had to flag her down to order drinks.
Absolutely perfect meal, service, and setting. Will return here again and again.
Located in an old mill in Simsbury, CT.
New Years Eve six course dinner was excellent in taste and presentation. Just a little disappointed in the dessert options. Wait staff all very very personable and professional. Downstairs bar area very warm and cozy and main dining room overlooks a river and waterfall- really nice!
Great. We felt pampered and got to experience wonderful flavor combinations.
Such a special treat every time we go to Millwright's! Service is impeccable. The food is extraordinary. The atmosphere is wonderful. We love sitting in the booths! You feel like you totally separated from the rest of the restaurant!
Entree was fired too soon and sat in server section next to our table. When appetizers were cleared, next course appeared automatically...egg and sauce was cold, steak was lukewarm, fries were like lava!
Millwright’s is in a beautiful setting to have any meal, but especially nice for brunch, seated by a window. Maybe I had higher expectations based on previous dining experiences there, but this time it was a bit disappointing. The cheese plate was uninspired (as was the Bloody Mary ‘bar’), 3 very basic types of cheese with triangles that were so overly toasted that it crumbled the minute you picked it up, forget about trying to spread any soft cheese on it. The steak and eggs dish was very good, but a bit difficult to cut without a steak knife, which was never offered. The salmon was great, perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The Benedict was an interesting presentation - kind of deconstructed on a chunk of delicious bread, with a killer slaw, fabulous brisket and an egg topped with perfect hollandaise. I’d say poached egg but it was way beyond poached, with the yolk completely cooked through. We asked for a side of bacon which never arrived. Our server asked if we’d like fruit for our sparkling water which we said yes, that never arrived either. This restaurant consistently gets high marks and is always in the top 10 in the state. For the most part we did enjoy our visit, and the food, but whoever’s watching the store there needs to up their game a bit and get Millwright’s back to perfect.
Wonderful evening! We had a terrific, professional and skilled server who was attentive, knowledgeable and customer friendly. The food was wonderfully prepared and The ambiance was outstanding. Highly recommend for any special occasion or an intimate dinner for two.
Maybe our expectations were to high but overall underwhelmed. The starters were very good, however the main courses we had were rather pedestrian. The salmon was nothing to write home about and the cod could have easily been cooked in my home kitchen.
The service is what saved our experience! The waiter was attentive without hovering and the professionalism was something you don’t see much anymore
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Millwright. We went to celebrate my husband‘s birthday and they sat us right next to the waterfall. The service was impeccable and the tasting menu was delicious. We are glad we took the drive for a wonderful birthday dinner. We will definitely be back.
The food was absolutely wonderful! It is a pricier restaurant but absolutely worth every penny I paid. We left happy and full of tasty food and drink.
Restaurant was highly recommended by family but it didn't end up being for us, unfortunately. The atmosphere is unmatched. We did the tasting menu and there were highs and lows. The seafood dishes were wonderful but some of the other dishes were not as much to our taste. Cocktails were exceptional. It seems popular and has a following but we have satisfied our curiosity.
I had dinner with my three adult children to celebrate one of their graduations and being together for the holidays. We were able to have the tasting menu for three of us (two with wine pairings) while the fussier eater ordered a la carte. It was certainly an extremely pricey meal, but it was a truly wonderful meal that we will remember for a long time. The dishes were delicious, creative, and diverse. The dinner was also beautifully paced - we didn't feel rushed through courses and we didn't feel we were ever wondering when the next course would come. Service was terrific (thanks Ron!)
The staff was amazing. They went above and beyond their normal duties. I proposed to my gf there. They video taped the occasion and took pics of the cook writing “will you marry me” on the desert plate. By far one of the best experiences I ever had
We had the lovliest experience dining here. We brought some friends for a special treat. They loved the setting above the water and the gracious room. We are not foodies, but our server, Ron, was so wonderful guiding us through the menu and sharing his expertise. Our meal was delicious from salad to dessert of mini waffle cones with the unsurpassed Grassroots ice cream. Wainwright’s was so warm and welcoming. We definitely will look forward to being at Ron’s table again!
We had a wonderful evening. The food was fantastic as was the wine. We did try the Penicillin cocktail and highly recommend it. Our table was a booth looking out at the room and we would always take that table. You could see the whole room (and it is beautiful) but the high sides of the banquette made conversation feel very private. I guess one of the most important elements of the night was our server, Chris. She was very knowledgeable but never over the top. Her suggestions were right on the nose and she timed our meal perfectly. Honestly when we go back (and we will go back!) we'll call ahead to make sure she's there. What a GREAT night!!
Always amazing time here. Cuisine is exceptional. There are not enough positive adjectives to describe the service. Ron is simply the best! The whole team is filled with incredibly caring and nice people. Our favorite place!!!
Fantastic! One of the best meals I've had in Connecticut, hands down. Live an hour+ away and will not hesitate in coming back. Only regret is not coming sooner.
The tasting menu is a special experience. Our server Ron is excellent, great recommendations and helpful!
My wife and I were in the Simsbury area for business and pleasure and had heard great things about Millwright's, so we gave it a try. It was outstanding on all levels, except I wasn't thrilled with my entree. I ordered the swordfish and felt like a), the portions were small and b), it was quite bland and dry. The entree same with two slices of the fish, and it just wasn't that great in my opinion. I live in Maine and eat a lot of fish when I'm out at restaurants, and this swordfish wasn't up to par.
My wife had the pork tenderloin which was excellent - and the appetizers we ordered (farm greens salad, oysters, cheese board) were all good. Our server was excellent, drinks were good too, and we had a table at the window looking down at the waterfall and river outside. All in all a good experience but next time I'd try a different meal.
Fantastic experience. Delicious meal.
food was good, not excellent. portions adequate except for the desserts. we tried to share two desserts with four of us and usually that is plenty. in this case it was about half of a spoon per person. very tiny and pricey.
Awesome as always. I have been here many times and love the place
Our table all did the 7 course tasting menu which was amazing and they made accommodations for someone in our group with a shellfish allergy.
Millwright's continues to be, in my opinion, a premier dining spot in the Farmington Valley. The staff is very professional and caring about your dining experience. The menu always offers an eclectic choice of entrees. The setting and the ambience make this restaurant a lovely dining experience.
Everything was so amazing, however the dessert was un impressive
Our first time at Millwright's but certainly not our last. Can not wait to go back and try the pub downstairs. All 3 in our party loved our meals and appetizers. Desert was the same. Our waitress, Chris, was fun and did a great job. Nice anniversary dinner.
Chef Tyler and Staff never disappoint! The veal was out of this world and Chef Kristen’s dark fruit bar is my new favorite sweet treat. Thank you for yet another fabulous meal.
Brought our mother here for her birthday dinner. The food was lovely and the cocktails were fantastic! I very much enjoyed my meal. Very fresh ingredients and delicious food! Service was lovely as well.
It was a hit or miss night - ambience was great for most of our time there; as for food the starters were phenomenal; entrees were underwhelming. Service was very pleasant but three times we had to point out that we had been served the wrong item and one time we were asked to show the server, on the menu, where the item we’d ordered actually was (as if we had made it up?!?) Once a large party was seated next to us, our empty water glasses were ignored. We’d consider giving it another shot but might stick to starters (or just hang out in the tavern) next time.
Choices were excellent! Dinner arrived cold. We sent it back to be reheated. This took a while. Came back with all new sides which was wonderful. I think for the price our expectation would have been to be served a warm meal initially. I understand it was a busy day. It was expensive which is fine and expected. The restaurant is beautiful and our seating was lovely. It is quiet and elegant. The service was spotty. Maybe on a regular night it would be better
We arrived a bit early, had cocktails, were seated promptly at our reservation hour. Chris was to take care of us and was very personable. Made a great recommendation for wine to go with our meals. This was the Thanksgiving Day dinner. We had the greens and the turkey with the family style sides. Was superb. This was our first time here and will not be our last.
Thanksgiving dinner was excellent. Had a great view of the mill. Service well done, efficient, non intrusive. Our 8 yr old niece was with us. Served her a child’s selection of her choice. The dessert plate captured her attention with the special doughnut holes.
While the atmosphere and restaurant has to be appreciated the quality of the meal for the price was just not there. Maybe we will give it another try at some point down the line...but probably just go sit in the bar which looks like a very cool spot to hang out for a casual drink / meal.
Would recommend the 7 course tasting and beverage pairing which was out of this world. Our server, Ron was phenomenal. Overall fantastic experience.
Fantastic meal! The 4 of us marveled at each & everyone course. Fantastic evening! Our 5th visit to one of Tyler’s restaurants. A great foodie experience with premium service!
