Contemporary American
Taverns have had a constant important presence in American life since the late 1600's. Many of them, which were attached to inns, were opened as resting places for travelers needing a place to stop, relax and fortify themselves. Of course the local residents frequented the taverns too, purchasing drinks and meals as well as participating in lively conversations. Taverns were the focal point for neighbors to come together, exchange news, talk of politics, and share in the general feeling of conviviality. Taverns were firmly established as gathering places for the light hearted socializing, serious talk, and of course, a
hearty meal accompanied by a tasty libation or two.
In this American tradition, we at Mill’s Tavern welcome you with genuine enthusiasm. Our staff is warm, friendly, caring, and knowledgeable. So please come, relax, visit with friends and family. You will leave refreshed and nourished, body and soul.

Waiter was unattentive and not very friendly. Bartender couldn’t seem to get the drinks right. Returned 3 out of 4 yet charged for 2 on final bill. We will NOT be returning for another visit.

Mill’s rarely disappoints. The short rib is the best around, the pumpkin risotto was excellent, and the desserts recommendation was perfect. However, the $36 Alaskan King Crab didn’t live up to expectations and neither did the tiger shrimp. Both were a little mealy. The PEI mussels though were perfect.

Our server was very good and helpful with some questions we had. The food was excellent. The wine list could offer some more choices. The drinks, in general, took awhile to arrive after they were ordered but it was quite busy so, I imagine, the bar must have been rocking.
This spot is a favorite of ours and continues to be. I like the new valet system with texting to retrieve the car.

Always delicious, but extra special on Valentine’s Day. Special menu included yummy broken heart martini. Cauliflower bisque was amazing with pickled cauliflower and pecorino garnish. All food was spectacular. Mills is pricey but perfect for a special occasion, we’ve been many times and have always been thrilled with our selections. The ambiance and service is top notch without being stuffy.

Mills Tavern is one of the most underrated restaurants in Providence. It's on par with any other restaurant in the city. The only reason I went with four stars for the value is because you get what you pay for. It's not cheap, but it's great food and great service. The location is also great as you don't have to fight your way around Federal Hill. Skip all that and just head down to Main St.

The price to value relationship is grossly disproportionate. It was the most expensive dining experience we have ever had, and the food quality was standard to just ok. The service by Sam was great, otherwise we probably won’t be going back.

Our meal was quite delicious. Really it’s all about the pastry chef. She is amazing! The olive oil cake was so tender and moist. Also terrific recommendation on wine pairings from our waiter.

It was my first time at Mill’s Tavern and I had reservations to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. Our waiter, Phil, was funny, charismatic and such a pleasure to interact with. The food was absolutely delicious. We both had the filet mignon and it was cooked exactly as we requested it. The location itself was ideal, it was still in downtown without being a pain to get to or find parking for. There is an option for valet but we had no problem finding our own parking for a 7:00pm reservation on a Saturday. The restaurant/bar was beautiful. It was very classy like a steakhouse but still modern and fresh. I would absolutely recommend Mill’s to anyone, both seafood and steak lovers alike. Our meal and wine was very well worth it.

Lynne, our server, was absolutely outstanding. She didn’t rush us, she presented the options and gave us plenty of time to enjoy our drinks and decide what we wanted for each step of the meal. Absolutely outstanding. We will be back based on her level of service alone.

Food was delicious. Drinks were well mixed. My steak was cooked exactly to my liking, and the horseradish cream sauce was a wonderful touch.

Went to Mill's Tavern to celebrate the sale of our home out of state. It did not disappoint. I ordered the filet mignon, medium rare, and it was prepared perfectly. My husband got the short ribs, and we shared an order of delicious mashed potatoes. Bottles of wine were still half-priced at the end of restaurant week and we enjoyed a bold Malbec from Argentina. Impressive, attentive service that were on their game completely--clearing tables, delivering our charcuterie board, refilling wine, etc. I WILL BE BACK!

Visited Mill's Tavern during restaurant week. It was busy but the waiter checked on us often, and was helpful in selecting a wine we would like for the evening. We got the cauliflower bisque, Calamari, Beef Ragu and a steak. Everything came out timely and tasted delicious. We will definitely be back soon!

We had a “cousins meet-up” at Mills Tavern recently and the entire experience was outstanding. We had made a reservation for 6 people and when we arrived were seated immediately. From start to finish our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable and engaging, without being intrusive. The menu has a great variety, so everyone found something of interest. We took advantage of Providence Restaurant Week and were offered a great value that included appetizer, main course and dessert for $34.95 excluding drinks.

All 6 of us enjoyed all 3 courses and there was not a morsel of food left on anyone’s plate. My wife has a dairy allergy and the kitchen made a special dessert for her to ensure she did not have any issues. When you combine a very well designed interior space with an open kitchen, great food and excellent service you have a winning combination. Mills Tavern you gave the cousins a very enjoyable night out!

We arrived for an early dinner and enjoyed a very pleasant evening of excellent food, service and atmosphere. The service pace was neither rushed nor delayed. Because it was a Sunday, the Champagne was 1/2 price so that was a pleasant surprise. I would recommend Mill’s Tavern to everyone looking for excellent food in a pleasant environment.

My mom and I went for restaurant week on Friday night. Was great! Service was slow at some points- by the time we got our first course we had already finished the wine tasting that was supposed to go with it, so we had to order full glasses and spend more money than we ultimately had planned to. We ordered a side of butternut squash risotto and it was to DIE for. The flavors were amazing. Bread pudding at the end was also phenomenal.

Thanks Mills for an amazing meal!

We dined here based on the great reviews. It started a little bumpy when we were seated and waited almost 5 minutes for the waitress to introduce herself. The table next us were seated after us and their waitress took their drinks order before ours even came to our table. Then when she took our order, I had to ask her about the specials I heard the other waitress telling the table next to us. Bizarre.
Our meals were good but nothing great. I had a really good salad followed by overdone swordfish with delicious root vegetables. The chocolate mousse dessert was far better than the dinner. I wouldn’t go back unless it was for dessert.
