Insistent dining experience. Good wine list with reasonable value. The bar side of the restaurant can br rather noisy. Went there to celebrate a birthday. No dessert comped for someone who is a regular
Amazing experience! We celebrated my husbands birthday and enjoyed a fantastic meal with wine. Everything was cooked perfectly, great flavor balances, really really solid meal. The service was great too- Nick was our waiter and he was super nice and personable! Hard to find an independent, classic steak restaurant that incorporates seasonal touches. Loved our dinner and experience- we’ll be back and definitely recommending to friends and family!
I love this place. If you go, ask to have Hanna as your waitress...absolutely lovely and kind. Makes the experience perfect
Everything was terrific! Great hostess, server, table location and food was the best. A pleasant surprise for our first visit. Thank you Shayne. We will be back soon.
Lynn was a great server. Attentive but not intrusive. Gave her honest assessment. Keep her.
Was wonderful and was very special. Our first time will go back when in the area.
This place is great. The menu has some great dinners and they always have a special to surprise. The staff is friendly and can always recommend something great wether it be an appetizer, entree, or dessert. I recommend this place over capital grill any day.
This restaurant is one of the best in Providence. While it's not cheap (a good thing as fewer locals will be about), the food is outstanding. The prix fixe menu seemed like a very good value, three courses for $30. There are a number of varied options, if you have a party that cannot decide on fish or steak, this is the place to go. The filet was outstanding, if you order it medium rare it will melt in your mouth, practically no need to even chew. The drinks were very different but also tasted great. The wine list was not extensive but there were enough options at each price point so that anyone should be sufficiently satisfied.
The waitstaff does a great job. There was a mix-up at first and out waitress took a bit to come find us. They gave us each a free glass of sparkling wine as an apology (something I thought was wholly unnecessary but much appreciated). Excepting that slight incident, the service was great and I do not think it reduced the experience at all.
Overall, if you are in Providence and are looking for a great place to have dinner, this should be high on your list.
Food was great and waitress wonderful !!!!
Perhaps the best overall restaurant in Providence. Good food, service and setting. Pricey though. $200 for two.
Our server, Phil was great. Food was fantastic, and the place totally lived up to its "among the best restaurants in the world" reputation.
This was my third or fourth visit to this restaurant which was one of my favorites. This time, however, I was not as impressed. We were seated on the bar side of the restaurant which did not have quite the same ambiance. It seems like the waiters took the service a little more casually here as well. the food delivery was a little slipshod, they brought all our appetizers and my husband's salad at the same time instead of spacing appetizers, salad and then main course. I ordered halibut which was served a little on the lukewarm side. Overall, a nice meal but not up to the quality of service and food preparation I had experienced in my last visits.
Have long been a patron of Mills Tavern, and Saturday evening's dinner was another excellent meal that already has us discussing our next opportunity for a night out.
We sampled local oysters from the raw bar menu, paired that with tiger shrimp as well as the lobster cocktail. With some handcrafted beverages by their side, the appetizer course set the tone for an excellent meal.
For main courses, my wife chose the Niman Range Ribeye while I opted for the halibut. Both were incredibly well seasoned, tender and expertly seasoned. While we also added brussel sprouts for the table, the malanga rosti stood out as the best accompaniment on our plates. Absolutely amazing and delicious.
Our waitress, Naomi, was excellent. She took the time to get it right for wine and dinner selections with our questions. The food was excellent. Three of us had flies mignon and I had the swordfish. I have never tasted anything so delicious. Every thing about it was perfect.
It was amazing the as always. Loved to Colby steak and the scallop special was perfect.
I've been living in PVD for three years and never tried Mills Tavern (speaks to the variety around here).
It's honestly one of the best restaurants I've been to. The wood burning stove left an amazing flavor/crunch on my lady's steak, and my king salmon truly was the KING.
Phil was FANTASTIC, ask for Phil. The young hostess with the braided hair was very charming as well (missed her name).
First time there, absolutely amazing - best valentine’s day ever.
Valentine's Day Dinner at 5:00pm worked out great. Last minute, day of reservation early dinner reservation worked out great. We had a PC Basketball Game at 7:00. We left by 6:30. Swordfish and petite filet were awesome, along with, of course, french fries. A couple of Tito's Martini's for the LOVERR and we were off to the Big Game.
Everything was outstanding. Excellent, attentive service (thanks, Hannah!), and absolutely perfectly cooked meal (swordfish!). Thanks, Mills Tavern!
We showed up on time for our reservation, but never got seated until an hour later ! Then we waited over an hour for our food ! My food was spectacular, but my wife's steak was cold - My guess is they forgot to cook mine, and hers sat there for a long time while they rushed to cook mine - When my wife told the waitress her steak was cold, she scraped it offer her plate and brought it back to reheat it - In the process of scraping the steak off her plate, she evidently spilled some of the food right into my wife's expensive pocket book !!!! Now it smells of garlic, onions or something like that - We did not notice the pocket book fiasco until after we got home when my wife stuck her hand into the pocket book and got food all over here hands - Total disaster - I've been to this restaurant approximately 15 times, all were great experiences, but for the last 3 0- They have been pretty bad - The prior problems were - 1 - They lost a $ 50 gift card, so we had to come up with more money 2 - Just bad service - Inattentive waiter - Etc......... 3 strikes and you're out as the umpires says -I won't be going back for sometime - In this most recent incident, I found the bartender to be totally inattentive to my wife and I - We sat at the bar for an hour and would not have been asked if we wanted a drink if I hadn't essentially flagged him down like one flags down a cab
I had to send my steak back because it was significantly not "rare"; be careful when ordering. I've had to do this before at Mill's Tavern, so it must be an ongoing problem in the kitchen.
Overpriced for what we received.
I came here for a birthday dinner with a few friends. Everyone was very disappointed with the food. The salads had an odd savory taste, the steak was overdone, and the gnocchi was just not prepared well. We really wanted to like the food but it just wasn't quiet right.
Tried Mill's Tavern before a show at the Vet. Both the food and the service were great. Its definitely not cheap but portions were good and quality was excellent
We will definitely return when in the area ...
Wonderful meal with great service! We enjoyed our Private little table! They even supplied a space heater !
this was our second time at this location we are from Boston and once again you did not disappoint us a group of 6 and we all enjoyed our self's
Food was EXCELLENT... I am a person who never orders or even cares for deserts, but I tasted 2 desserts here and they were magnificent, I would come back just for a desert night. The food in general was all GREAT. The only draw back for the evening, was our waiter who wasn't awful she was just fair. Not attentive, and didn't communicate w/ us. We had long waits for bread and drinks.
First time. Went with another couple. Jacob was a fabulous server. Knowledgeable and attentive at all times.
Food was delicious. Atmosphere was alive!
This is our new favorite restaurant!
Don’t recommend restaurant week. The food is way better during regular non promotions times. Our filet wasn’t cooked as well as they usually do. You could tell they were super busy with restaurant week diners so that took away from their normal quality. Starters were fine. Dessert was pretty good. They red wine list was really picked over. Will go back but not for this promo.
Nice atmosphere and good food. Blemish was we waited for over 30 minutes after finishing our meal for the dessert we ordered before we finally just got up to leave. Prior to the dessert desertion, service was fine but it definitely left a bad taste.
Birthday dinner for a friend, party of 3. We arrived on time for our reservation at 7:15 but did not get seated until after 8. If we showed up 45 mins late, I doubt our res would have been held. Service was slow in terms of food coming out. Very long time between app and main course. We did not linger and were still there until after 10 pm. Our waiter was excellent though! Not the first time I’ve had this sort of delay her but I cannot help but come back for the Portuguese Bread Pudding!
Very busy at the restaurant! It is restaurant week and has been busy all week per the staff. Great special prices on wine and food. A little loud for me since I have hearing impairment but all about us were having a great time. Our wait staff was excellent, professional and attentive without being bothersome. The food was wonderful and dessert was superb. Apple cake for my wife-Bread pudding for me. We always enjoy it at the Mills Tavern and tonite didn’t disappoint
We try to get there for the winter menu since they have venison. As always drinks, main course and desert were fantastic. We were disappointed in the fried calamari is was chewy. We told the waiter and he brought us another order. Same chewy calamari. He took the charge off of the bill. We have had calamari many times before in other restaurants and it has been light and flavorful. I can only assume that this was slightly over cooked. This is a five star restaurant except for the appy.
Waiter was disappointing on day 2 of restaurant week. He consistently messed up the order for apps and when asked for a black napkin (wearing black pants and a white napkin do not mix well) he misunderstood and brought me another white napkin. My dinner was delicious, my companion's mussel dish was too salty. Wine choices by the glass are "ok" Waiter was Jacob? or Joshua?
Alsways a great experience.
I have been to the Mills many times and my last visit was exceptional, this visit was not. Not even close. The service was poor and not attentive (enough said on that). We ordered from the restaurant week menu, which I do not normally do, because I find the food to be on par with wedding food. That is pretty much what was served. Pre-prepped, bland, bad food. The calamari was cold and bland, the blue fish pate was bland and served with no accompaniment. The salads looked like they were sitting around forever. Ordered a half price bottle of wine (fume blanc), it was served warm and it took the waiter forever to bring the bottle. Ordered risotto with a beef shank and the waiter failed to tell us the shank was not included, but rather, the beef was incorporated into the risotto. Really! One of the entrees was the muscles, in which the portion was tiny. Maybe 8 muscles. You get more with the half order at Red Stripe. Dessert was bland and terrible. Espresso served cold. Wow! Total disappointment. Clueless waiter. Do not go to this restaurant during restaurant week. I sent the risotto back and ordered an app to cover and they charged for the more expensive dinner. Couldn’t get out of there fast enough. The host was pleasant and professional and the setting is nice. Only two bright spots. Yikes! Bad experience. Probably will never go again.
Love Mills Tavern. Have been here many times and the food and service is always awesome. Items on the menu can highlight some new tastes but I have found that they may be willing to simplify for a simpler taste. Can't recommend highly enough.
Mill’s typically is one of the best restaurants in the city of Providence. Historic Tavern feel with an excellent reputation for Steaks, Chops and Seafood. We have enjoyed our visits in the past but this time the service and hospitality did not live up to our expectations.
Great for a special occasion. Got a bit of a stuffy vibe at first, but service was impeccable and food was delicious.
Once again the wait staff made this a very pleasant evening, paying attention to each detail and making us feel valued and special. Thank you to all for a great night.
