Miller Union Ratings and Reviews
You could tell both time and thought was out into the dishes. Everything we had was delicious. The ingredients on each plate went well together. The crudites on the hummus appetizer were crisp and fresh. The hummus was excellent. The farm egg in celery cream with warm bread was divine, no wonder the waitress who brought it it said it was her favorite.
My date had the pork loin with carrot, chickpea panisse and carrots. The panisse was essentially savory vegetable flan. I want the recipe. I had quail with celery roots, apples, greens, and a cranberry puree. All of the food was great. Our waiter Andy was excellent, he appeared right when we needed something but otherwise let us enjoy our meal. It was a fantastic evening for an anniversary dinner.
I was disappointed because our food was cold. We had an early reservation (5PM) and no one was in the restaurant. Everything took a long time and even though there were a lot of staff there, no one came over to our table right away. It took a while to get our food (I ordered the steak and my husband the pork) and both were cold. When they came back (they were replated and looked nice) it was still luke warm. I went to the rest room and saw our waiter on his phone (red headed guy), so maybe he just wasn't on the ball. Anyway, based on the reviews, my expectations were high and were not met. I will say that the guy that I mentioned the issue to (not our waiter) was very responsive and agreed that it should not be cold since we were the only ones in the restaurant. The Appetizers and drinks were delicious (grit fritters- we ordered two orders they were so good).
This was my first visit to Miller Union and it was exceptional. It was my husband's 65th birthday and I feel he was very happy with the experience. Our cocktails at the bar before dinner were excellent and our meal was outstanding (even if we didn't get the baked egg....yet). Our server was attentive but very low key. He did an excellent job of taking care of us.
Based on photos, I wasn't expecting as "cozy" an environment, but very much liked the way the restaurant was designed. All in all, I was very happy we chose Miller Union for this birthday celebration (and I had a few other options in mind). I cannot wait to go back!
My first experience at Miller Union was great! Although the dishes are small with a hefty price, we left full from eating all three courses. This is a great special occasion dining experience. Prices are shown upfront on the website, so check those out before deciding to dine there. I definitely wouldn't bring children or picky eaters to this restaurant. I brought my boyfriend because he loves to be adventurous with food.
We joined friends here for a Saturday lunch. Two in the group ordered the burger and it was a bit disappointing. The fried chicken, however, was outstanding.
We had a guy step in for our main server and take our order. My wife asked for fries in place of chips on the chicken sandwich and he said he couldn't. She instead ordered the burger, which comes with fries. The rigidity was a little surprising for a place like this- no small uncharge suggested, we would have to place a separate full order for fries. When our server came back, she was unaware that the guy had taken our order.
This might seem trivial, but that's what stood out in our experience of the place.
You can't find a better dining experience in my opinion. From the quality and perfect preparation of food, to the wine selection and the knowledge and service from the staff. This is our go to place for special occasions or just and evening out. I have no hesitation recommending Miller Union and am confident they will exceed any expectations you have. Plan a visit and enjoy!
I've thought long and hard about what words to describe this restaurant and the phrase "Fancy Mediocrity" keeps popping up. It presents itself as a very hip, upscale restaurant but the food does not match the trappings. The restaurant's signature appetizer is a poached egg in some sort of watery cream sauce. The waiter told me that I should break the yolk and stir it in the sauce, which I did. The result was a slimy concoction that was hard to scoop onto my little piece of toast. Next course, flank steak, was ok but the dark sauce which covered it was very salty. The salt from the sauce overwhelmed the little vegetables scattered around the plate. The desert, like the rest of the meal that preceded it, was mostly left uneaten. We went there because it was ranked highly but that ranking must have been based on meals served a while ago because the place we visited seemed tired and worn out, like all the fun and innovation had been sucked out of it.
Totally enjoyed the creativity of the chef and the varied menu of local seasonal produce.
Our appetizers were delish. One should not skip the fritters, scallops, or baked egg. The app menu could be a meal of its own.
I had the veggie plate. It was so interestingly tasty that I doubt I will ever eat a different entree here! I must mention the scallops appetizer should be a main dish; never had scallops that were so uniquely prepared. Definitely addictive flavors!
We went prior to seeing Hillary Clinton Live at the Fox. The wait staff was timely, attentive, and knowledgeable. Cannot say enough about this place...All four of us were members of the clean plate club!
We came from NJ to see our child at Tech with my brother and sister-in-law. I ate at Miller Union on my last visit and thought it was interesting enough to revisit.
This was our first meal upon arrival. I made the reservation long ago, yet was placed out on the porch when we arrived. I had the trout, which was overcooked and not very eye appealing when plated. No one commented on their food, which I think is revealing in and of itself.
A giant "meh"
In Atlanta for a convention, we needed a place for healthy, farm-to-table, great cuisine with a southern twist. From a list of 20 recommended restaurants, the menu at Miller Union stood out, and our party of 11 loved what came next! Un-rushed service, unusual food (and English champagne--who knew!), accommodation of our guest of honor and extra guests, and even the taxi back downtown. When the check arrived after an abundant dinner, even that was a pleasant surprise! A definite repeat the next time in Atlanta!
We booked a reservation almost a month in advance for my SO's birthday. Valet is complimentary, because parking is a bear. Tips are welcomed, of course ;) We were running about 10min behind our reservation and our other couple was further behind due to a child getting sick at the last moment. We were immediately seated with no wait (even given our partial party). Our server was so kind, and when told about the child was very apologetic. He also made good recommendations. We had the seafood gumbo, others had the skirt steak and we tried the pork belly appetizer. Drinks were good. There was a delay on food arriving, so chef sent a complimentary appetizer of the feta and pea hummus spreads. It was refreshing. The entrees were so-so from a flavor profile perspective. I'd be interested and willing to trying again for dessert and other dishes Bc customer service was superb. Good atmosphere as well.
We did not have a good time at this restaurant. The food was extremely overpriced. My husbands duck was as small as a tapas portion of duck he gets regularly elsewhere, and cost twice as much, and he said it wasn't as good. I got the gumbo, which had good flavor but was full of crab shells, and again I found to be overpriced. The noise was excessive, we were crammed in a small room with only 8 tables, rather than having a nice open layout like most Atlanta restaurants. This made our noisy neighbors impossible to ignore, as their noise echoed through the little room. The decorations were creepy, there were dusty old (real) turtle shells lined up along the wall in our room, which was disgusting to me.
A friend and I had her birthday lunch there. They don't actually do anything special for a birthday, but it is a nice place to go. The food was so good and not the usual. It is an updated, southern cuisine. We had fried chicken and the vegetable plate and shared both. Fried chicken gives two pieces. We also had one of the ice cream sandwiches and cut it in half. It was plenty of food, but not too much. Everything was very good.
Miller Union has never disappointed me. The creativity and local ingredient emphasis of the chef is what make this a special place. Ambiance is comfortable and pleasant. We like to go early. Don't be timid about the veggie plate. It is a big meal and crazy good. My wife and I like to get an entire with meat and the veggie plate, then share.
We dined there with our daughters and had a fairly nice time. This was our 5th dinner at Miller Union. The food wasn't as exceptional as it had been in the past which was slightly disappointing, given the cost. Our waiter, while very knowledgeable was a tad overbearing, often interrupting our conversation to regale us with his expertise on all things food and wine. It became a bit too much. The service was slow, but I think that had more to do with the kitchen vs. our waiter, and various wait staff kept putting newly filled water bottles on a shelf behind my husband which was annoying. We won't give up on the restaurant altogether, but we'll wait awhile before trying them again.
