VERY OVERATED .. 4 PEOPLE $345.00 .. FOOD IDOES NOT BLOW YOUR SOCKS OFF AT ALL NOT EVEN CLOSE... WAITER LEFT IN THE MIDDLE OF SERVING US AND NEVER CAME BACK. JUST STRANGE .. VERY AVERAGE AND NOTHING THAT IS ONE OF A KIND OR EXCEPTIONAL TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST.. THE SEATING AND VIEW WAS NICE, BUT JUST NOT WORTH THE MONEY AT ALL... CAN NOW SAY I WENT AND I TRIED. THE RIBEYE WAS 75% FAT AND SALMON WAS CHARDED ALL AROUND THE EDGES GIVING A BURNT TASTE. JUST NOT IMPRESSED AND THEY THINK ALOT OF THEMSELVES THERE DIDN'T WANT TO ACKNOWLDGE ISSUES...
We thoroughly enjoyed everything about our experience. The food was amazing, the fire was cozy and romantic and our server was outstanding!
Excellent food and service. Nice ambience. Huge portions so we were able to share (although there is a splitting fee). The food was delicious and tasty, with nice additions like personally delivered corn bread. Would definitely return.
We love the Mill Pond! Only negative at all was cornbread rather than good rolls with steak menu!
Our server, Missy, was stellar ! It is quite expensive and wish there were a little more price variation so we could go more often , but we will go back! Food is delicious! Fantastic steak! Best creamed spinach I’ve ever had! Could be a little more variety in dessert offerings!
Mill Pond exceeded our expectations. It was a beautiful, quaint restaurant with all the attributes of a 5 Star venue!! The lovely dining area was decorated with the rich history of the area. The service was impeccable from a warm welcome to a genuine goodbye. Our table was nestled by the fireplace with enough space to not feel crowded upon other patrons. Our server Bill was well versed in the menu and the dynamics of the restaurant experience. We both had steaks which were cooked precisely to our liking and the sides were awesome additions. The surprise dish for us both was the amazing butter bean succotash!! It was so delicious that I’ll definitely be something I try to recreate.
We ended the night with the esteemed peach cobbler which did not disappoint.....even for my Georgia grown better half.
The wine and cocktails ordered came quickly and full of flavor. We will definitely return and recommend to anyone looking for a great dining experience!
My wife and I love this restaurant. It has it all - excellent food, superior service, ambiance and consistency. We come here 3-4 times a year and it is consistently excellent. Our servers vary from Missy to Michael to Robert. All are very professional and timely. On March 3, 2018, we were seated by a very courteous and friendly Elaine. Our server was Michael. We shared a 16 oz ribeye steak, which as tender, jucy, flavorful and cooked exactly as we had ordered (medium rare). The house salad with house dressing, cream spinach and fresh cornbread was a perfect compliment with our steak. The plain cheesecake with strawberries was an excellent way to top off a great evening. It was light and creamy. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Great find in the middle of nowhere. Treat yourself and drive out of the way to get there. Great food, great service and great ambiance. Get a seat window if you can.
My husband & I just had anther incredible meal at or favorite “go to” restaurant. We both had the bone in aged ribeyes, the Mac & cheese, and, of course, the peach cobbler.! The steaks were seasoned just right & cooked to perfection. It’s a 40 minute drive from Columbia, but well worth the trip! We always like to get there before dark because the view of the pond is so beautiful and peaceful. If you are lucky, you will catch a glimpse of the fox, and in warmer weather, the gator. Josh was our waiter, and was great. It was also a treat to see John! The atmosphere is definitely a real surprise if you have never been in the restaurant. I chose “special occasion”, but it is also a great place for a date night. Treat yourself well & go. You won’t be sorry!
Just a great new place that we discovered after seeing it in the Bravo series entitled “relationshep”. Thanks for the good memories!
We frequent the Mill Pond when we can as we drive from Florence. Enjoying a cocktail and a glass of wine is all we can do before leaving with a hot cup of "to go" coffee. That being said, it is a great place to eat, great atmosphere and the steads are as good as you can find in S. C.
Love to get there early and view the outdoors on the pond and see the wildlife. Not many areas you can do this at.
Going to start having me a driver to get me there and back so I can enjoy the entire time should I want an extra glass of wine.
Well worth the trip!
Had oysters, fried green tomatoes, brie' and steak....took some home and breakfast with an egg....YUM!
We have now discovered our new favorite restaurant in the SC Midlands. I am so thankful we tried it. We can’t wait until next time!
Best steak ever eaten! Side dishes were excellent and served family style. Dessert was large enough to share by 4. Quaint location with historic significance.
Excellent service by Bill. A little pricey but well worth it when you need a special place, with great food for a special occasion.
the portions were great however the lobster tails we received were VERY SALTY and my wife's steak wasn't served at the temperature she requested
Living in Columbia, SC most of my life I had never heard of this restaurant just a 40 minute ride down the road. I discovered them through a Southern Living article a few years ago. Finally made a reservation for this past Saturday night (02/17/18), and oh man what have we been missing! It seemed to be out in the middle of nowhere but a quick ride. Our reservations was for 7:30 and we arrived 10 minutes before. We were greeted and sat upon our arrival. The staff went to work immediately. Our waiter (Josh) was friendly, knowledgeable, pleasant, and professional. Josh presented a wine list and explained the night's specials and a history of the restaurant. We decided upon shrimp cocktail for our appetizer and they were huge and very good. We decided with one of the filet specials and the surf and turf for our main entrees accompanied with their mac and cheese. Absolutely outstanding! We have eaten steaks across the country and both agreed everything was the best we have ever eaten. Dessert was a homemade and fresh peach cobbler that was great. Our entire meal to include our bottle of wine was $190.00. We loved everything about Mill Pond Steakhouse and cant wait for our next return. If you want the best and a special place to dine then make a date with the Mill Pond Steakhouse!
Great as usual!
We went as a table of 8 for a day after Valentine’s Day. Each couple spent over $200 each. The steaks and seafood were wonderful but twice baked potato was horrible. The scalloped potato is a better choice. And for future reference, 1 side will feed at least 2 people.
It is a wonderful experience, food is great and the staff is great. Place to go. If you are looking for just a very nice place to eat. Go there
This place is great. We found it by accident thinking it could possibly be as good as the reviews said it was but we were wrong. Excellent service, excellent wine list. It is primarily steaks but they do have seafood as well.
The best steak I’ve ever eaten. A great find. The service was exceptional as was all the different foods we were served.
One of the best steaks I’ve ever tasted!!!!
Best steak hands down I’ve ever had! The service was awesome.
Excellent food and service!! A little pricey, but love the ambiance!
Every thing was wonderful! From the service to the wonderful meal! We had to travel 40 minuets to get there & it was well worth the trip!
We will not return to this place! Our table was in the bar area, and two guys at another table began making loud, obnoxious, offensive comments, so we left before dinner was actually served. We asked to move to another table but the house was full. The staff was pleasant and the Chef Clyde Grant was awesome as always, but I am concerned that the an attitude of racism and bigotry pervades the atmosphere here.
Mill Pond is always great. Fantastic food, great service, "one of a kind" rustic and comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Our visit was fantastic as usual. Great service and food. Can't get this just anywhere. We will be back for our anniversary, February 14th.
My poor review may be the result of just a bad night that had been overbooked, but by the time we arrived and were seated the crowd was thinning significantly, so I am at a loss to explain why such a friendly staff were so incompetent. First of all, we sat down 20 minutes after our reservation waiting for a table to be set. The guests had already left but no one set it up for the next customer. Once we sat down, wine was served immediately and then radio silence for then next half hour , no bread or butter. I think we managed to place our order. But literally one hour after our reservation we had not been served a crumb of food. I had to find someone and speak sharply to them to get anyone to give us bread. When it finally came (cornbread) it was clearly underdone, so while fresh out of the oven, wasn't fully baked. When the food arrived everything was lukewarm including the salmon and the crab cakes. my steak was the only good thing we got (except for the $14 glass of wine which was very good). The salmon was undercooked although my husband specifically asked for it to be done well and as I said, room temp. Crab cakes also not hot and underwhelming taste-wise. WAiter forgot the spoon for the family style veggies , promised to get one and never returned. Never saw the waiter after that moment except for the presentation of the check. Had to flag down the hostess to get the salmon redone. Had high hopes for this one as the local rep is that it is the only special place in town. I'd only recommend this to people who plan to order steak and warning them of my pretty miserable experience with the service.
This is by far the best steakhouse in South Carolina and that includes Ruth Chris, Morton's and Hall's of Charleston. I've been to them all. We had the 22 ounce aged beef rib eye. It was cooked to perfection and would melt in your mouth. Just what you would expect from Clyde and his staff. Service is a strength at the Mill Pond. Josh was our waiter and before you could think of a need, he was already there. Mary Ann does a great job providing fine dinning at its best! I and my wife highly recommend you experience the Boykin Mill Pond Steakhouse.
Everything was exquisite! From our waiter, Michael that excelled his job to the wonderful food- couldn't have asked for better! We will be back very soon!
I highly recommend the cobbler also, you will be too full, but save a few bites for dessert ;)
This is an incredibly consistent restaurant. The service has always been excellent and the food is very good. It is worth the drive every time. The butter and chive shaved corn is my favorite side followed closely by the fried okra.
By far the best
Don’t let the drive scare you. You’ll get there and it’s worth the trip. A fantastic steak house!!
Fabulous food !! So worth the drive in the middle of nowhere. Waitress seemed new and nervous, but VERY sweet. The succotash was the best I've ever had. We will definitely return.
Thoroughly enjoyable evening. Meal was terrific, servers were attentive.
Blown away! Such a bright spot in n the chain restaurant world! Worth the drive! This place has so much character! Just loved every thing about it! Food and service...amazing! You will not be disappointed!
A perennial favorite, never disappoints. The duck spring rolls are a special favorite, plus any steak or lamb dish.
Outstanding service, excellent food, superb atmosphere. A great place for dinner and an excellent bar to enjoy with friends. And a good place to make new friends.
Excellent steak preparation and quality with lots of delicious side dish choices.
Great service, spectacular food and a wonderful chef. We'll be back!
Our food was very good, but not better than similar items at Rick Erwin’s or High Cotton—and more expensive. I was especially disappointed to discover that the “specials” of the day, described by our server, were significantly more expensive than similar items on the menu. Ask for the price of the specials in advance if value is important to you. We were trying to stay within our $100 budget for two, and went over by 50%. We got two entrees, shared a side, one water and one tea, and our total with 18% tip was $150. Our wait staff was very good and the place is extra special for a romantic date or important group meal. We will go back, but I will be wary of the specials.
