the portions were great however the lobster tails we received were VERY SALTY and my wife's steak wasn't served at the temperature she requested
Living in Columbia, SC most of my life I had never heard of this restaurant just a 40 minute ride down the road. I discovered them through a Southern Living article a few years ago. Finally made a reservation for this past Saturday night (02/17/18), and oh man what have we been missing! It seemed to be out in the middle of nowhere but a quick ride. Our reservations was for 7:30 and we arrived 10 minutes before. We were greeted and sat upon our arrival. The staff went to work immediately. Our waiter (Josh) was friendly, knowledgeable, pleasant, and professional. Josh presented a wine list and explained the night's specials and a history of the restaurant. We decided upon shrimp cocktail for our appetizer and they were huge and very good. We decided with one of the filet specials and the surf and turf for our main entrees accompanied with their mac and cheese. Absolutely outstanding! We have eaten steaks across the country and both agreed everything was the best we have ever eaten. Dessert was a homemade and fresh peach cobbler that was great. Our entire meal to include our bottle of wine was $190.00. We loved everything about Mill Pond Steakhouse and cant wait for our next return. If you want the best and a special place to dine then make a date with the Mill Pond Steakhouse!

This place is great. We found it by accident thinking it could possibly be as good as the reviews said it was but we were wrong. Excellent service, excellent wine list. It is primarily steaks but they do have seafood as well.

Every thing was wonderful! From the service to the wonderful meal! We had to travel 40 minuets to get there & it was well worth the trip!
We will not return to this place! Our table was in the bar area, and two guys at another table began making loud, obnoxious, offensive comments, so we left before dinner was actually served. We asked to move to another table but the house was full. The staff was pleasant and the Chef Clyde Grant was awesome as always, but I am concerned that the an attitude of racism and bigotry pervades the atmosphere here.
Mill Pond is always great. Fantastic food, great service, "one of a kind" rustic and comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Our visit was fantastic as usual. Great service and food. Can't get this just anywhere. We will be back for our anniversary, February 14th.
My poor review may be the result of just a bad night that had been overbooked, but by the time we arrived and were seated the crowd was thinning significantly, so I am at a loss to explain why such a friendly staff were so incompetent. First of all, we sat down 20 minutes after our reservation waiting for a table to be set. The guests had already left but no one set it up for the next customer. Once we sat down, wine was served immediately and then radio silence for then next half hour , no bread or butter. I think we managed to place our order. But literally one hour after our reservation we had not been served a crumb of food. I had to find someone and speak sharply to them to get anyone to give us bread. When it finally came (cornbread) it was clearly underdone, so while fresh out of the oven, wasn't fully baked. When the food arrived everything was lukewarm including the salmon and the crab cakes. my steak was the only good thing we got (except for the $14 glass of wine which was very good). The salmon was undercooked although my husband specifically asked for it to be done well and as I said, room temp. Crab cakes also not hot and underwhelming taste-wise. WAiter forgot the spoon for the family style veggies , promised to get one and never returned. Never saw the waiter after that moment except for the presentation of the check. Had to flag down the hostess to get the salmon redone. Had high hopes for this one as the local rep is that it is the only special place in town. I'd only recommend this to people who plan to order steak and warning them of my pretty miserable experience with the service.
This is by far the best steakhouse in South Carolina and that includes Ruth Chris, Morton's and Hall's of Charleston. I've been to them all. We had the 22 ounce aged beef rib eye. It was cooked to perfection and would melt in your mouth. Just what you would expect from Clyde and his staff. Service is a strength at the Mill Pond. Josh was our waiter and before you could think of a need, he was already there. Mary Ann does a great job providing fine dinning at its best! I and my wife highly recommend you experience the Boykin Mill Pond Steakhouse.
