Milk River Ratings and Reviews
I've been to Milk River three time previously. I was always a fan of their service but this last time I was disappointed. My group were the only ones in the restaurant. I asked to speak with the manager because their card reader was down and none of my friends had cash(including me). I asked to speak with the manager. The waitress tells the manager I want to talk to her and the manager looks at me looks back and the waitress and then says something to her. The waitress notifies me she'll be with me in a moment. The manager looks at me and proceeds to walk around the kitchen. Stopping to look back at me every few steps. Mind you THERE ARE ZERO CUSTOMERS IN THERE BESIDES ME AND MY TWO FRIENDS. I become frustrated and walk to the bathroom to meet my friends. I come back out the bathroom and the manager still has not left the kitchen. I become super frustrated. Finally after ten minutes she slowly walks out the kitchen to answer my question. She looks me in my face and says "I didn't know you were waiting to speak with me". I asked her why no one notified us before or even during our meal that the card machine wasn't working. We could've found other solutions beforehand. She goes to the machine and swipes it and it goes through. I'm not sure what the issue was when the waitress did it however I was glad it was resolved. None the less the service was mediocre and I was deeply upset by the managers actions. I believe it was very unprofessional for her to purposely ignore me as if I was not a paying customer. I was also the ONLY customer. Maybe if her attitude was better it would be more full every night. I have also heard this restaurant had been shot up. Is this part of the problem?
Great food and the band was amazing playing soulful Caribbean music. Restaurant is pretty large so makes it good for a large party.
I had the oxtail, it was cooked just right with just the right amount of spice to it. Portions are small so I suggest getting some appetizers for starters.
Very poor service. Although we made a reservation well in advance, we waited over one hour to be seated. The food portions were small and not worth the price. There are better Caribbean restaurants in NYC. Don't waste your time.
We went on a down night (Tuesday) so didn't get the live music experience so I think this place is really overall a 5. Food, drinks and staff were great. Bar is inviting, comfy dining area and bathrooms clean and spacious. Will come back for live music(Th-Sunday).
The ambiance was awesome! Finally a West Indian restaurant that caters for all. The oxtail was quite tasty and the service was delightful. Finding parking was easier than I thought. The live band was quite entertaining. I certainly enjoyed my time there and woukd not hesitate to visit again
This was our third time visiting Milk River. The food and drinks were excellent. Our server was very helpful in making menu suggestions. The only thing I had an issue was that I had two different charges on my card. I just called my card company to inform them. I hope this was just an error and not a normal practice, since it was first time it happened to me. Overall, it's a very nice place.
The drinks were great as well as the service from our waiter for a group of 8. This was our 2nd visit and we were a bit disappointed as the Jerk lamb chops have been removed from the menu and we never got to try them as they ran out the first visit. The food could use a bit more flare and flavor. The mac and cheese was better this visit.
Not my first time here. However, the menu continues to be overly priced and small quantities. The live band is too loud to the point you cannot hear yourself speak. The decor is always representative of Bk..love that. Overall a good spot to club and drink.
This is the third time I've dined at Milk River. I will only return for drinks and to listen to the band. It started out great, but deteriorated. It took a long time for the waitress to bring our main dish after having appetizers. Once the dish arrived, there were no utensils. We asked one staff member and he forgot. He finally remembered and told another staff member. It took anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes before the utensils arrived. The food is extremely salty (including the appetizers). Everyone in my party agreed. The band was great and the Sorrel was really tasty. It had a nice kick. Every time I've dined at Milk River, the service was bad. This is over the years. It has not improved at all. Beautiful venue, but not recommended for food and service. I feel like I wasted my money.
I came here for dinner to celebrate my 22nd birthday. Luckily i found parking about two blocks away which wasn't bad. The inside of Milk Rive is nicely decorated, however the menu is much more limited as compared to online. I ordered the milk wings (sweet and spicy) and a side of mac and cheese. The mac & cheese here is really good! There were performers the night that i went so the ambiance was kind've noisy which made it hard to hear my guest and talk, but nice overall. Our server wasn't as attentive as he could have been but it wasn't terrible. I have not yet gotten to try the lounge area but I will def give it a chance for next time!
Nothing but good things to say. First off, I made the reservation not an hour before and everything went smoothly. We were greeted warmly on the walk in. Our waiter was very kind, timely and efficient. Food was DELICIOUS. We were there for brunch, we had the chicken and waffles, and shrimp and grits. I highly recommemd both. We both had the Brooklyn Iced Tea, something similar to a Long Island Iced Tea. Great drink. I just wish they had a desert menu. I'm not sure if it was because it was during brunch, but there were no deserts available.. Tunes spinning in the back. Loud enough to vybe to, low enough for you to enjoy your conversation. Ambiance was great.
This downtown Brooklyn location probably won't last long after the word gets out that the food is over-priced and just okay. Also, the live-band music that was played during dinner was so loud that my dinner party had to scream to hear each other when the band was not screaming at the top of their lungs. 3 apps, 2 sides, and a few (scant) drinks will be put a $100+ bill hurtin' on you, and with some complimentary ear-ringing and voice-loss to boot!...Notwithstanding, this dinner price-gouging, the venue will still force you to pay cover for the social/nightlife side of the venue. I then proceeded to laugh and leave this establishment.
Enjoy! Well, not really, but you know what I mean.
Our server, Janae, was UNBELIEVABLE! She had a wealth of knowledge when it came to the menu and drink options. She tried her absolute BEST to ensure that we enjoyed the food and had a great experience. The food is creatively put together and named appropriately but the taste... Meh.
I would recommend this place if you want to have a great time, great conversation, and some great drinks. Order Cocktails and appetizers. Not the shrimp, though... they have heads and arms... yikes!
We celebrated the birthday of a girlfriend of mine at Milk River recently. We were anticipating the food wondering what it would be like? We were all pleasantly surprised to find that the food was fantastic! Even more, we were well entertained by the smooth vibes and rhythms from the Friday night band. A great place for family and friends to get together. Looking forward to my next visit to Milk River.
I had a terrible experience on Valentine's Day. When I arrived they asked if I booked through Open Table and when I said yes they explained that due to an error on Open Table's end, people who reserved online were not aware that they had a mandatory special menu at $75/person. I was floored when I heard that because that was way too expensive. Unfortunately, I am not from Brooklyn and didn't know where else to eat so stayed. It felt nasty and down right dishonest that they pulled this scam on folks. They didn't tell us until we arrived about the special menu. However, I called to tell them I was running a few minute late and that I had booked online and at that time on the phone no one explained to me the special menu.
People were leaving and I heard those who chose to stay complaining about this scam Milk River pulled. I do visit Brooklyn on occasion and have friends there. I will never return or recommend anyone dine here.
This was a very calculated move knowing that many other restaurants were booked on Valentine's Day. It's bad business and makes Open Table look bad if what they are saying about the glitch is true.
The restaurant is very nice inside. The staff was great but the food was just average. If you have a restaurant and service the group of people from which your food is supposed to be derived from, you must do better. I could not recommend this restaurant because of the taste of the food.
Service was very slow. Didn't allow us to sit at the table until every single guest arrived or you had to speak with the manager to change the reservation and it was only two guests that were running late. They didn't have a lot of items that were on the menu. The drinks were okay.
I've wanted to try this place for quite some time. I should've taken the reviews into more consideration. The ambiance of the restaurant was really nice. A relaxed feeling. There was a live band that was playing which made it impossible to have a conversation without yelling at the top of your lungs. When looking at the menu, I thought it would be more of a variety especially being a Jamaican restaurant. Very lack luster. I ended up getting the salmon which was delicious. The service was poor. It wasn't even a busy night but our waitress always seemed to be missing. She barely came back to check up on us or to refill any drinks. We only grabbed her attention when she noticed one of the bus boys was bagging our food. When we received the bill we saw why she didn't really work, the gratuity was automatically added to the bill. Mind you it was only my friend and myself. We will not be back to dine at this place.
Had a great time. Food was amazing. Even though the menu was a bit limited, it still hit the spot. Wish we had unlimited mimosas too :) Nonetheless, the hostess was awesome and made the dining experience memorable. They even surprised me and the misses with a blue velvet birthday cake surprise!!! Will definitely dine here again soon!!!
