The food was fantastic!
This restaurant is fantastic! Attentive, knowledgeable servers and the chef pairs food at a very high level - not what you would expect for a $37 three course meal. We're going back next time we're in the area
Dinner was fantastic! Service was impeccable! However - the music that someone was choosing to play overhead was terrible. Some sort of 60's, psychedelic-mixed-with-Partridge-Family, obnoxious, circus-sounding stuff. It was hard to enjoy our special night with the repugnant music. Literally any other genre of Pandora station would have been preferable (even Country, and I can't stand Country).
Great food and not noisy which was perfect for our business dinner meeting. Will go back again and again!!!
Very impressed! Great food and service
Will definitely be back
As alway, the food was superb! It was flavorful, well cooked and delicious. We had outdoor seating which was perfect for Covid safety as well as overall ease and comfort. Austin, our server, was sweet, attentive and had good suggestions. We were celebrating our anniversary and were served complimentary champagne. We will be back!
Service was impeccable. Food was very creatively designed and beautifully presented. Wish I had more appetite because I really regretted having to leave any over. Our server Kristin was very attentive and respectful. I told her she was a mind reader. Wish I lived closer. I would be a regular.
What a pleasant experience during our current situation of the pandemic. My server was outstanding. And the steak was one of the best I’ve ever had. So flavorful and juicy and perfectly cooked. I took the carrot cake to go!
What a hidden gem of a restaurant! Food and service were outstanding. One of our guests was a vegetarian, and our wait person did a phenomenal job of accommodating this dietary challenge. Definitely a 5 star experience!
Excellent food, cool atmosphere, delicious desserts. I love their vibe, on a beautiful evening outdoors, in Gainesville.
We love the quaintness of this restaurant......food selection was very good as well as presentation of our meals. Excellent taste as well. We were pleasantly surprised at our find of Mildreds.
We chose it because our mother was named Mildred.....and we read the reviews.
the menu is great and the deal right now is excellent. I wish the atmosphere was more formal feeling.
FOR OVER 20 YEARS THIS HAS BEEN OUR GO TO PLACE FOR GREAT DINING, FAMILY OWNED BY GREAT CHEF BERT GILL
This restaurant is run by the greatest owner and chef who is the community kindest guy who helps get meals out to the needy too, the staff are super friendly, I travel out of my way to eat here and have been coming for years, great bar, divine food... the specials are delectable 🇬🇧🇺🇸👍🏻💯🍾
Great food! The best service of any restaurant in Gainesville! Wonderful scallops and the best coconut cake ever!!
Service was very pleasant and quick. Limited menu but the food was good. Only issue for is was no gluten free dessert options available so we could not do the fixed price menu option
We had an exceptional meal at Mildreds about a month ago, so we decided to celebrate my birthday there. We brought wine, knowing there was a corkage fee. Our waitress opened the bottle and served us about an ounce in each wine glass, while also spilling it on the empty chair next to me. She never cleaned it up. Our waitress never served us the wine again; we had to pour it ourselves. The same thing happened with our second bottle of wine. She did get us new glasses since we changed for. A red wine to a white wine. Our escargot and calamari were fantastic for appetizers. Our salads were delicious also. Our dinner came, and my daughter’s salmon was over cooked, so it was taken back. The second time it was cooked perfectly, and came with capers on top. Surprisingly, both of our grouper dinners were supposed to have capers, but there were none to be found. When we told our waitress, she just said that they were very busy and shot handed. When it came to dessert, there were only a few slices of cake, so we opted to come back and choose our cake on another day. Our waitress came to the table a total of four times in two hours; the rest of the time, someone else handed us our food. There is a mandatory 12% service fee added to the bill. The last time, our male waiter made sure to tell us about this fee. Our female waitress did not mention it at all. Yes, it was the day before Valentine’s Day, but we had made reservations a week in advance, and even confirmed by phone and a text. We will have dinner at Mildreds again, and see if this was a one time problem.
It’s been years since we’ve been to Gainesville, but Mildred’s is still a favorite. We’ve been dining there ever since it was in Micanopy. The food and service were phenomenal. I’d suggest some planters or other screening from the parking lot to facilitate outside dining during the pandemic.
Honestly the best pork chop I’ve ever eaten! Super creative drinks & side dishes, and amazing desserts.
As always, food and service were impeccable.
I’m deeply sorry to have to give such a poor rating for this restaurant. We started our dinner with escargot which desperately lacked salt but once I seasoned it, it was pretty good. My salad was horribly overdressed with the Caesar dressing, and my grouper was dry and bland! The risotto was not really a risotto at all but rather loosely formed rice which needed flavor as well. My boyfriend had the beet salad which he said was okay, and hanger steak that was rather tough and chewy. I will say the desserts were really good. We had coconut cake and German chocolate cake and they were delicious! Our server was very good and attentive. Unfortunately I can’t recall her name but she has very short Dark hair and is quite petite. Then the final blow was the bill. They added 10.95 Covid fee and our tip as well. We spent over $100 on this meal that was a dismal failure in my opinion. We dine out regularly and enjoy dining at new finer dining establishments. I cannot recommend Mildreds however, unless you just want dessert!
Amazing food and very good service.
Best social distancing. Excellent service. Dinner was first class and excellent. Love this place.
Everything was Excellent. Service impeccable and food was prepared perfectly and delicious.
Intimate, elegant dinner with great service and food.
Great to be able to support a local business. And well worth it! Excellent food and service
Delicious. So good. Very friendly. Welcoming. Accommodating.
Mildreds is always reliable and delicious. The desserts are decadent, and the martinis are always perfectly chilled. This is our favorite place in Gainesville and for good reason.
Everything was outstanding. Just a little trouble finding it.. Name on the side of the restaurant.
Fabulous! Simply Fabulous! We ate lunch at Mildred’s Big City Food one day and we were so impressed we booked reservations for the next night. The staff was so kind and attentive both occasions. The food was prepared with care and presented with panache. All foods were gourmet in quality and succulent in taste. At lunch we has salads with a protein, then split one of the homemade in-house desserts... coconut frosting with devils food layer cake. For dinner we had salmon terrine with lump lobster as an appetizer and it was just right. Salad was roasted cauliflower with blue cheese. My entree was a pork chop with succotash, and my wife had the New York strip club cut with warm potato salad. Then, we were so satisfied, we took German chocolate cake and chocolate swirl cheesecake home for a night cap. We could not recommend a restaurant more highly than Mildred’s Big City Food, if you are ever in Gainesville, FL don’t miss out!
To cut to the chase the folks who work there are extremely nice people, the ambience could've been better (inside, lit with dim yellow lights), and the food was subpar at best (served the butt of a cauliflower, and a room-temperature NY strip). Being the restaurant is highly rated I believe my bad experience might have been something of chance and not very common - I simply cannot excuse it for the price.
Two people costed ~$110 for their current (Oct, 2020) special of $35 for entry, main, and dessert with the addition of the 10% "COVID" fee, and a tip. Would not revisit this place, but truly wish that they do well in the future.
Service was fantastic, food was way outside my comfort zone, but delicious. And I never thought to add a splash of port to an Old Fashioned, but it was a really nice twist to my old reliable. Do not walk past this place. We will be back.
First time at Mildred's, very quaint, service and food fantastic.
AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE,
Have not been in Gainesville for 15 years and I was so happy to find out they were still open for business. Food was great and service was even better
Such attention to detail and perfect service; highly recommend.
Food was delicious and Our Sever Alex was the best !
Food and service are why we go out to a Restuarant !
Mildred’s had it all!
MaryAnn our server was a delight!
Truly enjoyable on all levels!
We will return.
It was our first time back to dining on site. We had outdoor seating and it was wonderful- plenty of space and the server was so gracious. Staff always wore masks. Dinner was excellent- I had salmon and my husband had scallops. We will definitely return.
We have really enjoyed dining at Mildred's during this pandemic. The $35/3-course menu is consistently delicious. The homemade desserts are perfection. The tables are spread very far apart and they have outdoor dining. The wine menu is better than most places in the area. Ambiance needs some work but we make it a pleasant date night during a pandemic!
