Mildreds Big City Food
Offering quality and freshness with no shortcuts, our team prepares each dish from scratch.
We serve local produce and fresh Florida seafood every day. We also feature a full bar, an award winning wine list and homemade cakes and cheesecakes.
Mildred's is proud to say we serve Gainesville's best food! We are also in the Golden Spoon Hall of Fame for our dedication to great food and service year after year.
Reservations for lunch are not necessary.
What a great find! We were in town overnight and found this restaurant on TripAdvisor. We started with the escargot and a cocktail, shared a beet salad and then both had the duck. Amazing! Everything was so good, fresh ingredients expertly prepared, and the service was perfect. I’d definitely go back!!
Food was sophisticated. French flair. Ben is an amazing server / manager. Wonderful intro to Gainesville. Makes me want to come back.
Excellent food and service. A bit pricey. Delicious.
Love the good service and always good food at Mildred's. It is our number one choice for business dinners.
The salmon I ordered was very good, but my husband’s double pork chop was under cooked and had to be sent back. Even then it wasn’t done near the bone. The service was attentive and good - I think they should have comped us the appetizer if not the main for the error.
Enjoyed dinner. Disappointed with not having moderate priced wine. Ordered champagne and it cost $80. Food was good and fairly priced. Service was ordinary not extraordinary. Water not refilled frequently
Hadn’t been in 15 years but was as awesome as we remember😺
Always good food and excellent service. The ambient noise can sometimes be a little much, especially when we are having a business dinner. Still, it is one of the most reliably good restaurants in the area.
Exquisite meal. Food was prepared perfectly and wine pairing suggestion was spot on. Benoit our waiter was attentive but not overbearing. Highly recommend you travel to Gainesville to experience this restaurant.
A special place.
The food was excellent. My vermilion snapper was a tad salty but otherwise very nicely prepared. Mildred's is one of our few 'go to' restaurants for fine dining in Gainesville, The service was also very good.
Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful meal, friendly service made for a memorable evening. Best meal of 2019 so far.
We had a business meal with someone from out of town that we wanted to impress, and Mildred's filled the bill. The service was very attentive, informative and responsive to particular requests. The food was delicious, from appetizer to dessert, and the wine by the glass was reasonably priced and very good. Our guest followed up to let us know that it was a highlight of her visit to Gainesville. Overall, could not have asked for more!
I have never had anything at Mildreds that was not perfectly prepared.
Wonderful place. Great food. Excellent staff. Reservation was kept and table was waiting........
Delicious Valentine’s Day dinner! Despite being quite busy, the service was excellent. Mildred’s has a pleasant ambiance (simple and not pretentious) and the noise level allows for easy conversation. The coconut cream layer cake was divine!
The food at Mildred's for dinner is spectacular. A couple of servers weren't that attentive but the general managers were extremely attentive and picked up where the other servers left off.. Very impressed.
Out of towner, loved food. Excellent. A bit difficult to find restaurant, but a find!
We were a late reservation (after a show) and we ended up being the only people in the restaurant-the staff never made us feel unwelcome or rushed. They were warm, pleasant and the food (as always) was outstanding!
Good food, good service, nice atmosphere. I am always a fan.
Our salmon was excellent- well cooked but not dry. We asked for fresh fruit instead of a sweet dessert and they accommodated us. We will definitely return.
Mildred’s Big City Food is consistently one of THE best local restaurants in North Florida. Bert Gill ensures the menu changes seasonally, reflects locally sourced foods, and rivals restaurants shooting for their first Star or a Zagat ranking. Great wine list. A pastry chef on premises. Great meal anytime; lunch or dinner.
Absolutely amazing. Delicious food. Steak and scallops (separate dishes) were both cooked perfectly. My pumpkin risotto was delicious, albeit the slightly large chunks of pumpkin were off putting. Next time probably have that diced up and mixed into the risotto would be great. More of a presentation and textural element to the dish rather than taste. The broccoli was steamed well but I also do wish that were presented a little more cleanly. Don’t take my comment as negatives but rather a way to improve the finer details! The food itself is perfect and the service is the best in town. Thank you guys for a delicious dinner and we will be back!
Excellent food and service.
Great welcome food and ambiance, love it here, will be back again
Consistently one of "good" restaurants in Gainesville. WIth a cuisine to please all and excellent staff. If you can only choose one place, choose this one.
Our meal was good, though I did find the duck breast to bea bit cool as opposed to hot. Service was excellent. The beer choices were limited, though I found one that I liked. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Overall we had a nice meal
Incredibly informed waiter who understood the dishes and the wine pairing with them. Comfortable seating and atmosphere. Ask for Benoit ("Ben-Wa" for you americans..) as your waiter!
Mildred's is a very pleasant oasis tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. The space is very pretty and comfortable, the menu is diverse and interesting, and the dishes that my husband and I had were well prepared, nicely presented and tasty (spinach salad, caesar salad, pork chop, and pompano). The wine list is adequate and fairly priced. We would definitely return during subsequent trips to Gainesville.
Great service. Food was wonderful despite having a mix of appetizers and main courses.
Perfect aside from being pricey. Scallops, risotto and asparagus.
Delicious food, esp the crab appetizer with avocado mousse. Biggest disappointment was that everything was heavily salted. Way too much for me.
Mildreds is fantastic. Wonderful French food hidden in the back of a strip mall. this might be the best kept secret in Gainesville. We went on a Saturday evening and were surprised it wasn't packed. The food is reasonably prices for the outstanding quality. Each course was wonderful, finished with an assortment of their cheesecake and a cappuccino. Incredible experience. A must try.
One of our best dining experiences at Mildred's, even better than usual. The food was especially beautifully presented, very impressive, and the Merlot we had was superb.
Server seemed to have the attitude that he was above his job. Caesar salad was more dressing than romaine lettuce. Didn't see our waiter until after we ate a very small amount of salad but the waiter did offer to bring us a new salad if we'd like one. Fish was overly cooked and dry and my pork chop was overly brined and salty as well as over cooked. Broccoli was perfect. Really expected much more after reading past reviews. Decor from the 80's? Not inexpensive and we won't return.
Mediocre service. Had to ask twice for lemon. Tea glass empty. Food not that great and way overpriced. Nice atmosphere but won’t go back.
My husband and I went for our 22nd Anniversary. It was absolutely delicious! I would eat here every day if I could. The service, food, drinks, and dessert were all out of this world.
We are from out of state. We liked Mildred’s so well, we came back the next night. Excellent service, incredible menu and awesome wine list! We will be back the next time we’re in Gainesville.
We happened upon Mildred’s thanks to OpenTable. 12 out of 10! Excellent service, great menu and outstanding wine list, including several very good Bordeauxs. We had the watercress salad with smoked duck breast, crab cake appetizer and the snapper entree and a bottle of Four Graces Pinot Gris, all outstanding. We are hoping to return tonight for another great meal!
We love Mildred’s! It’s a great place to take out-of-town guests. Beautiful food and elegant dining room. Highly recommend.
