It was a great little restaurant that was very accommodating. We had a large group of 10 and everything we ordered was delicious. Highly recommend even for groups with kids.
Outdated furnishings and less then great food. So many good restaurants here, don’t waste your time.
Terrible sushi. Rice is poor, no meat in the rolls
Great service, very fresh fish and it's all preservative free plus they have a great /big gluten-free menu.
Truly excellent sushi. Some of the freshest fatty tuna I’ve ever enjoyed. Restaurant was pretty empty and a little on the dumpy side, but don’t let this fool you. Food is great and service was good.
Was hoping to find a decent sushi place open on a Sunday nite. The quality of the fish was okay. But for the price, I expected better. If price were a bit more reasonable, I would have given it a 4 stars. But this is San Francisco after all. I expect better for the money
Pros: Food is excellent. Gyoza are extra crispy; sushi was fresh and flavorful; sake selection was wonderful.
Cons: The service was simply awful. I was with clients and we were seated (after some confusion or lack of knowledge of our reservation) and then left unattended for 15 minutes. And we had to repeatedly flag down the waiter (who tended to avoid contact with his tables) to request water, soy sauce saucers, wasabi, etc. I do not believe he was being rude... perhaps he was just nervous or frazzled, but it was a real pity because we truly enjoyed the food.
Needed more flavor
Wonderful food. Super fresh. The uni is on the expensive side but for the quality of the food I would return anytime.
A great little sushi place with kind wait staff and nice food.
Server left halfway through our meal & never returned, nor did any other server fill in.
Very good sushi
Great sushi and good service. Food came out quickly. High ceilings make it a bit hard to hear.
Simply the best Japanese food we’ve ever tried! Amicable staff and very reasonable prices.
The staff was very nice but not entirely knowledgeable about the food they were serving. The prices were in keeping with Union Square but not a lot for the money. They do not serve bento boxes on the weekend for some reason and miso soup does not come with your entrée.
This was probably the worst experience I’ve had at a restaurant in San Francisco thus far. And I’ve been coming to the city for years. We made reservations to come eat here for a friends birthday. We got there about 15 minutes prior to our reservation. The staff was frazzled even though it was slow. Once we were seated the staff brought menus and waters to people who were seated after us. I had to get up grab menus for the table and then ask them to bring us waters. After 35 minutes the wait staff finally came to take our orders. No one ever greeted us and the waiter barely spoke two words to us minus to say “you ready”. We won’t ever return to this restaurant. As a group of minorities we felt singled out until another waiter clocked in and was attentive to us closer to the end of our meal. 10/10 would not recommend to a friend.
The atmosphere needs some help. Warm up the place! Too dark and plain!
We are a group of friends who get together once a year and had a great time visiting and enjoyed the food.
The sushi was just ok. Had 3 rolls and none of them stood out - barely had any desire to finish the last one.
Fast seating, great food, pleasant and timely service
The Dragon Roll was yummmmmy. Edamame could have used more salt. Very quiet spot around 5/6pm which made it easy to hear my friend.
All good and fast the food and the service is good I would return to eat again I liked
Wow. This was likely the most expensive sushi that we've had in a while. Average quality but high end pricing. I'd give this one a skip.
Amazing sushi. Go for the Chef Special if you’re a sushi lover. Great service and awesome terry Ali chicken as well. Somehow well priced for all the good food.
Service was bad but food was good
Fresh fish , of course, and a good sushi chef.... very friendly staff. Good choices on sake. Best of all, not a price gouging restaurant , at all..... San Fran can be hard on the wallet
We were treated beautifully.
Great place! The sushi was delicious and reasonably priced unlike a lot of sushi places in SF, and generous portions too (again, unlike a lot of places in SF). Great tea selection and service was friendly -- will definitely be going back and recommending to friends. Also great for vegetarians/vegans -- sweet potato roll was delicious!
Wonderful and efficient staff. Quick service.
The food is OK, although they sell “real wasabi” as just wasabi. The service was really bad, it took almost an hour to get the food, no plates on the table, missing napkins... well, maybe it was a bad day for them.
The sushi is ok, rather overpriced for the quality though
I was trying to find a sushi restaurant in the union square/financial district that wouldn't break the bank and this place delivered. It is a small restaurant with about a dozen tables and a small sushi bar but the quality and amount of food for the price was very good. Sushi was fresh, the rolls were good, but service was a bit hit or miss. Probably would get better service at the sushi bar, but overall still an enjoyable experience.
Quality was mediocre to ok, but disappointing relative to cost. Then again, SF isn’t cheap.
Frustrating experience due to the lack of attention. EVERY request took so long to be addressed and we had to ask multiple times. The server told us the menu is priced wrong and everything is $2-$3 more. I was dumbfounded. There was one server for the entire restaurant on a Saturday night. So disappointing. It gets worse...The restaurant sent me the wrong food. They wouldn’t take it back until I threatened to leave. Needless to say we won’t be going back and we won’t recommend Mikaku to anyone.
It is a little hole in the wall spot off of a busy street! Food was outstanding and it came really fast!
Good lunch spot. The Bento boxes were tasty, and the dumplings were REALLY good.
Had a simple dinner and chose Mikaku because it was close and offers gluten-free menu options. It is a small venue so reservations are recommended.
Visiting family in SF, overall a great restaurant. Food was fresh and well made. Thank you.
