We arrived early and were seated right away. Ambiance was nice. Not too loud when we got there. Our server Jin was amazing. Super friendly and gave good recommendations on food items. The food presentation was amazing! The sushi chefs did a wonderful job. Lobster Roll and Spider Roll were gigantic, which is good for us because we were hungry. But I would recommend the server telling telling that they are bigger than your average roll just in case. Tempura green tea was a great way to end the night. Highly recommend and would def be back.

I love the food. Hamachi collar and black cod are delicious! Drinks are fantastic. However, your service, although super nice, is horribly slow and uncoordinated! They even forget to clear the table before bringing out food. I had to giggle. Especially when there are so many staff, some not doing much at all and moving at a snail’s pace. It took 3 people to serve just my friend and I. I even helped them out by clearing up the table so they could put the plates down. I don’t want to sound like a know it all but some good intense training can go a long way. Every single time I have eaten there it is at least 45-60 minutes before food comes out. I’ve been there probably a dozen times or more. For my birthday last year, party of 10, your staff took 2 hours to get food out though I booked at least 1-2 weeks ahead. They mixed up all our orders with so many servers. I have a shellfish allergy so it was extremely dangerous. Some food came out over an our before the first food came out. Service time was close to 2 hours before everyone got to eat! It was a gong show. I come back because I like the food and everyone is nice there. Because they can’t time manage well, just go with two people or max 4. Mikado, please train your staff. Hire someone in to train even. FYI I have been a waitress for 5 years before. It makes a huge difference with proper training. Seriously train. Have the server shadow the trainer. Then have the trainer overlook the server and give feedback. Click the server and clock the kitchen staff. Don’t forget that kitchen staff is way too slow. Too many chefs! Also find a more efficient way to take orders for example by tablets per table where the waitress can do it or we can do it ourselves. This would go straight to kitchen and prioritize. Ok enough unsolicited advice. I just want Mikado to do better. I would go there more often if service got better. I’ll still come by. Hopefully, you take my comments to heart.

Mikado has and is one of my favourite spots to go to, so as usual the food never disappoints. My favourite part of this location is the fact that they have fresh oysters - those are honestly amazing! I would've preferred a room area (mentioned in my booking) but overall it wasn't too bad. I prefer eating and enjoying my food with a bit more privacy, that's all!
We go to Mikado quite often and enjoy the food and service. The background music at the South side location is usually a form of jazz that I find discordant and irritating. Fortunately the food and service compensate.

Not sure what the point of making reservations were, when the restaurant was empty but they made us wait 10 minutes upon arrival while they cleaned a "special" booth. Meanwhile, people who arrived after us were seated immediately. But when we were finally seated we realized why the booth was special as it took 20 minutes for our server to appear for the first time. Disappointing for a place that is normally okay.
The food was fantastic, every dish. They were pretty busy and the table next to us was very noisy but the meal made up for it.

Interior was clean. Staff were friendly, approachable, and respectful. Food was authentic and delicious. Will come again next I am in Edmonton!

We had a wonderful meal, food and drinks were excellent, plus you can't beat the attentive service. Top notch sushi and rolls.
We booked online for a nice table for our 12 year old granddaughter's birthday meal with Grandma and Grandpa. We were taken straight to a nice table in the corner opposite the open kitchen that had a "Reserved" sign on it. Our server knew it was a special meal and paid great and pleasant attention to our Granddaughter throughout the meal. A complimentary dessert with sparkler was provided on a lovely tray with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate along with raspberry coulis. We each had a bento box and it was a delight to see our dear granddaughter tuck in with her chopsticks - "no, I don't need a fork!"

Excellent service, quick and friendly! The food was delicious and there was great selection in the menu. The portions were enough to fill you, something you normally don't see at sushi places. Overall, a great experience; my girlfriend and I will return.
Mikado Japanese Cuisine is one of our favorite restaurant. However it was our first time having our meals at the South side location.
What should I say about Mikado! Reservation is recommended.
What I expect from a Japanese restaurant and much more. Staffs are skillful, professional and responsive. There are no problems in finding a parking space.
There are booths, Tatami rooms as well as a large sushi bar from having lunch to more formal/private dinner.
Let’s talk about food. I always go for the bento box for lunch. As for dinner, I tried most of the menu. Salad, BBQ squid, fresh oysters, tempura, chicken Kara-age, Beef/tuna Tataki, blue fin tuna, rolls, sushi, sashimi, Nigiri sushi, udon, grill fish and special promotion items. Fish is always fresh, tempura & kara-age is deep fried and never dried, fish & squid are perfectly grilled. No disappointments at all. This time, we tried desserts too.
I definitely will go back for my lunch or dinner, for blue moment or for celebration, and for just because. I have to mention that it is a pleasure taking photos of the food.
Tip: promotion menu is for limited time. So go back quick if you like it.

We came to this restaurant for a family meal. The restaurant looked half empty but despite having a reservation had to wait quite a bit for seating. The baby was hungry while we were waiting for food. We went to feed him a couple mini size baby duck snacks. A waitress came up to us and asked that we not feed it to the baby as no outside food is allowed. Portion size has decreased and it took several times to convey our order to the server before it was understood.
Always a treat to come here because the food is fresh and delicious. Brought a new friend here and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
Fabulous as always. It is a great place to visit with friends. The staff do not rush you out which is very much appreciated.
The staff were friendly and service was good however the price of the meal was much higher than other Edmonton area Japanese restaurants that offer equal quality food and service. I'm not sure it's worth a repeat visit.

The food and service was good at mikado. The communication between OpenTable and mikado was terrible. Arrived and they didn't have my reservation so they asked to see the confirmation. I showed them the time and date of the reservation and they said I must have the wrong location. So I showed them the confirmation of the location as well but apparently they didn't receive it. So we had to wait an additional 20 minutes to get a table which isn't the worst thing in the world but definitely was not appreciated.
