The ancient tradition of the Samurai lives on at Mikado where knife-twirling chefs use fire and steam to create a mouth watering menu of steak, chicken and seafood delights. While you are led to your table through our private Japanese garden, notice the Koi swimming below and the sound of cascading waterfalls.

Mikado at Desert Springs JW Marriott Ratings and Reviews
Let me begin by explaining the reason for the noise level being energetic is due to small children not being quieted by their parents. The food was well prepared and we were well taken care of by the chef and waitress. However, the reservation did not detail seating is only teppanyaki.
Also, the magic of taking a "boat" to the restaurant was squashed by the Marriott. We were told three different times (4, 4:30 and 5pm) the boats were beginning to begin taking passengers and that five boats would be running. We had reservations at 5pm and were in line at 4pm for the TWO boats that were running. We were informed the "ride" would take 10 minutes. We explained we had reservations at 5pm and were concerned we would not be on the boat in time. Again at 4:30pm, we were told, "don't worry, there's going to be five boats running"; only two boats were running. Long story short-kinda-we had to get out of line at 4:45 to quickly walk over to the restaurant. So much for a magical evening.
My recommendation is to get in line an hour earlier than your reservation and make a later reservation if possible.
Our service was great . Our food was great. Our chef was great! The lighting is so bright sitting at those big tables - it would have been great if after he finished cooking, they dimmed the lights so you didn't feel like you were in a big warehouse with bright bright bright lights shining down on you the whole time.
The experience was great once we were seated. The young lady at the front desk was quite rude and insisted we must have our total group to be seated. Interestingly the last time at the restaurant they were quite happy to seat us and take our drink orders, while we waited for two additional people. We had even shared the fact that the missing two were walking over! Then we were told we had missed our window for the reservation and would have to wait further. Not a great start when entertaining clients.
We now understand there is little authenticity in this type of bash and klang cooking. The top teppan places in Japan would not be caught dead with this "look at me" set of antics. There were no explanations of the food, the cooking method nor the quality of the meats. Just bash and klang. Not only that, none of the chefs at the teppans were Japanese. I'm not saying they all must be Japanese, but wouldn't you think that Japanese food should be cooked by Japanese people? Oh well - now we know.
While vacationing in Palm Springs, we celebrated our 5th year anniversary and recent engagement at Mikado. Highly recommend!! The food was delicious, the drinks tasty, and the entertainment was priceless! Our chef kept us engaged the whole meal and our food was cooked to perfection.
Certainly more on the pricey side, but if you are able to, I highly recommend it!!
Smokey---overhead exhaust systems were there--but not used?
Big, drunk groups of diners eating huge and tasteless bowls of food.
Fun and games included smashing shrimp and tossing into diners' mouths by chefs.
Terrible food, terrible atmosphere and service--a total disappointment!
Annabelle says: Food quality and chef entertainment was terrific as always! Good value, as Mikado changed the sides from soup and salad to one or the other....I was surprised! and they gave my family both! That's special. VERY good with the youngsters.
We love the boat ride at JW Marriott also.
We were seated beside one of the most obnoxious and vulgar guests you could imagine. With children of other guests present, she repeatedly and loudly exclaimed expletives to others across the table. We wanted to leave. The staff did nothing but serve more drinks.
Our server was inattentive to our needs, probably avoiding our table-mate. We had to catch his attention several times.
The food was passable but over-priced. You're paying for the entertainment and ambiance however you have no control over who sits next to you.
The Marriott offers a cute boat ride to Mikado's which is part of the fun.
We've been on it many times before - but, always enjoy it. Mikado's is
ALWAYS so much fun. Great Service and Food is Very Good. They again
remembered us for our Anniversary. I will be back on our next visit.
Our chef was great. The two hostesses were very rude when we asked why they don't answer the phone they said they were so busy which was not the case. We called twice and got voice mail and last time called 3 times just to get voice mail. They are lazy and need to put the call on hold if they are really even on one and answer the other call and have the person calling hold, who trained these people ? Bad customer service for the prices they charge.
