Japanese
The ancient tradition of the Samurai lives on at Mikado where knife-twirling chefs use fire and steam to create a mouth watering menu of steak, chicken and seafood delights. The highlight of the experience is the dazzling talents of your chef as he expertly chops, juggles, jokes and prepares an incredible meal right before your eyes. While you are led to your table through our private Japanese garden, notice the Koi swimming below and the sound of cascading waterfalls.

Mikado at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa is known throughout the Coachella Valley and Southern California as the leader in authentic Teppan-Yaki Dining.

But it doesn’t stop there! East meets West at the ultimate sushi bar where you can relax and enjoy the freshest foods and a signature martini or sake. Celebrate an intimate gathering or a private function up to 150 guests at Mikado where the food is the show! Arigato!

Great Time. Great Vibe and wonderful and unique atmosphere. Not to be Missed is the boat/Gondola ride to the restaurant from the JW Marriott Lobby.

We’ve been here but before the food was flavorless this time and the chef took so long to cook everything was cold by the time we ate. His tricks were mediocre at best.

It’s an expensive restaurant that lacks quality in the food. Our chef was great. The server was extremely slow. In comparison to Benihana, stick to Benihana.

Food was good, bar service was abysmal. We had to retrieve one of our drinks from the bartender, as the waitress just left it there. But the worst was the ladies room was so filthy it was unusable! We told the servers that we were celebrating a birthday, but they did not bring a dessert or sing. For the price, they should have nicer bathrooms.

My husband and I particularly love teppanyaki-style dining wether with strangers or bringing our own group. On this occasion, his 75th birthday, we were delighted with our table mates who were strangers to us before our dining experience but friends after the meal. We had a glorious evening that was made even more special because our chef, Jeremy, was a good a comic as he a chef. The food was outstanding, the ambience of the restaurant was outstanding, the staff was outstanding; and we had experience to remember for a lifetime. Thanks to everyone involved.

We took the boat from the lobby which was such a fun (and delightfully weird) experience. The service was outstanding and the food was really great. As usual with a Japanese steakhouse, we were sitting with strangers on our honeymoon, so not ideal but we had fun. There was SO much food. We were traveling so we couldn’t take any with us and I hate to waste such deliciousness. We enjoyed our evening there!

Annabelle says: Our family enjoys the chef show and the food. This is the most excellent consistent eatery in the area. The chef and server get everything correct, and our group had many modifications. VERY kid friendly and for all ages. VERY efficient and friendly service. The boat ride to the restaurant adds to the fun.

The food is not as tasty as other tepanyaki restaurants, but if you prefer a bland diet, this may fit your taste. The food portion is bigger than other similar restaurants. The restaurant is located inside a beautiful resort, so if you want to dine at a place surrounded by fountains and gardens, you may like this.

Very spendy. Cheapest dinner was $40 and when you are on a business budget of $45 per meal including drink, tax and tip, it doesn't leave much wiggle room. Also, although he complied, the waiter seemed pretty annoyed and confused about separate checks required for our work. The Tepin chef was awesome though and the food was pretty good, typical of what you would expect. The $14 Mai Tai was small and very tame, I couldn't tell if there was alcohol in it at all. The boat ride over was cool, but you can do that without dinner. I'd say skip it and leave the resort for a different sushi or Japanese place down the road.

The food and service was great. The drinks were very weak and I am a very occasional drinker! I usually have only one drink because I have a low tolerance to alcohol. I had two drinks (at $14 each) and I could feel no alcohol effect from them! I only give 4 stars because I feel this restaurant is extremely expensive. I'm sure it's because it is catering to people who are on vacation, but I still think it is very expensive. Our cook, server, host and bus person were all very nice and gave good customer service.

We had the most amazing chef, Nory! By far the best hibachi experiences we’ve ever had to date. He was very funny and entertaining - and of course, cooked all our meals to perfection. Would definitely recommend Mikado to anyone visiting JW Marriott or the Palm Springs area.

The service was just okay for being not busy at 530. They were not great at refilling drinks or taking dishes. The food was very plain this time. Soup and salad was not served only one. Chicken does not come in the 4$ cup of fried rice and they do not use garlic butter. They are very frugal with the butter where all the flavor comes from. I was disappointed how much it was for the small amount of food. They give you lots of sprouts and onions for your money if you like those!

We were on vacation in Palm Desert and decided to go out to a nice restaurant. We picked Mikado's at the JW MARRIOTT. (The Marriott villas can shuttle you )
We started out with a drink and then ordered our dinners. We met people at our table which is always fun. There was only 4 of us, so it was kind of a private table!
The show of Ricardo cooking the food was fun and yummy! He is great! My daughter who is 20 decided to be the brave one at the table and catch cooked shrimp in her mouth while Ricardo tossed it in the air!
Yay! She did great. The food was fabulous and the entertainment awesome!
