I have gone to Mijares since I was a child ( I am 76) when it was a one room restaurant with Senora Mijares making tortillas in the corner of the room. I love Mijares. The noise level though can be "trying." I think I will eat outside the next time for the sake of my hearing!
Loved celebrating my birthday here!!
The Tacos are fully stuffed and tasty. Tried the Chili Colorado = overcooked leatherlike large chunks of beef difficult to cut and eat, a bit like thick jerky, rich but mild sauce, I will not order this again, not worth the price.
Mijares is an authentic, old-school Mexican restaurant. Don't expect anything fancy or trendy. It's where you go to indulge in classic margaritas and casual Mexican food at reasonable prices. My husband and I shared chicken and steak combo fajitas and grilled corn on the cob. It was enough food for the both of us. Being from Texas, we love flour tortillas, and the ones made and served here are awesome! We'll come back here again for our Mexican food fix.
This is a fun restaurant that our family from Arizona requests frequently when they come for a visit. The menu is dependable and offers one item that is gluten free and vegan which gratefully accommodates one member in our group. There are a variety of margaritas that are always delicious. Children and teenagers are made to feel welcome.
Enjoyable spot, delicious food!
Always our favorite Mexican restaurant. Last night there was very little chicken in my chicken enchilada. 😑
If you want authentic Mexican food then Mijares is the place to go. They have been serving Pasadena for almost 100 years! Love their staff!
Great for my visiting grandchildren!
This was our first time here. The service was awesome!! They have a great list of Margaritas and their food options were also extensive. We all loved our choices!
Excellent guacamole. But the main dinner (enchilada and tamale) were virtually flavorless. Sad because the service is truly fabulous.
perfect, delicious! very friendly staff, very talented musicians
Great food and Service
We love the atmosphere, the food, the service, everything about Mijares!!!
A good place for Mexican Border food, very busy on the weekend with some different special meals worth trying. The adult drinks are a little light on the alcohol, so order a double. The tacos are well filled with the meat and we like the albondaga soup with lots of vegetables.
Terrible service, over priced food. Sadly this place has gone way down hill
Great Mexican food, and the service is excellent! The staff is very attentive to any change needed at your table. All are friendly and efficient.
Mijares is always on my list to visit when I am in town. The food is excellent, prices moderate and the service is always at least very good, even at busy times. My benchmark for Miexican restaurants is the chili relleno and Mijares sits near the top of my list. Menudo is something you don't see everywhere is Mijares medudo is exceptional- wonderful broth.
Aways have been one of my fave Mexican restaurants in SoCal & this dinner didn't disappoint. Still my fave!
Good Mexican food but don't bother ordering a mixed drink other than a margurita because they are light on the pour. I have asked our servers several times about the light pour and they agree that many have asked the same question but the bartenders refuse to adjust. So when I dine here I just skip the mixed drink. I suggest you do the same.
We had a terrible experience at this restaurant. We’ve eaten there many times and each time the service gets slower and worse. This last time our food actually never showed up and we got up and left. In 30 years of dining at restaurants all over the world I’ve never gotten up and walked out without paying. We won’t be back.
Too noisy, very slow service, food not hot when served. The mariachi singers were the best of all!! I would never return on a Friday night ever..parking was is a disaster as well.
Food was very good. Service was slow. We were the first people there; it took about 30 minutes after we ordered for the food to arrive. The restaurant was not crowded.
Great food with authentic atmosphere. Service was friendly and fast. I was impressed as there was a special gluten free menu.
Best Sunday brunch. A large variety of authentic Mexican dishes, an omelette bar, homemade tortillas, delicious deserts and so much more. Mimosas included.
We love Mijares! The staff, the food, the margaritas, mariachis and the woman who makes the guacamole at your table makes this experience unlike any other Mexican restaurant in LA. We are lucky to have this family tradition for over 90 years in Pasadena. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Food is always reliable but the service is very spotty.
Really enjoyed the salmon dinner it actually has vegetables, asparagus, in a Mexican Restaurant. Thank you.
I refuse to purchase an alcoholic beverage here because they consistently short the alcohol. Server told us that many complain, but that even though the bar is told, the drinks come out the same....... weak.
We still come here for the food, just skip the mixed drinks, save your money.
Decent food, ok service. Will come back
First time. Had table ready on time. Food and service was good. Would recommend if looking for a good Mexican restaurant in the area. Will go again.
Checked in with the Maitre'd (a short bald man) at the front desk, we told him of our Open Table reservation, he acknowledged us and called us by name. Then after we left the restaurant they turned us in as a "No Show". Apparently they didn't even check their charge card records before turning in the "No Show". Their laziness cost me time and effort to get credit for our visit. When you check in, ask the seater to be sure to that you are checked in properly.
Their bar drinks are weak on alcohol, but their tacos are well filled with meat.
Great food. Reasonable prices, and excellent service!
It was a Saturday afternoon..
4 pm...so few tables taken. Despite great food... the terrible, slow service would prohibit me from going back.
We've been coming to Mijares for 30 years, and loved it from the first time we walked in. The food is great, prices are good, the atmosphere is comfortable and low-key, and the staff is always extremely friendly. This is our favorite restaurant in Pasadena.
Mijares is forever dependable. Enjoyable. We tried the lunch buffet. Basic offerings and quite a few options. Even lite dessert. And very economical at $11.95.
Born and raised in the area, never knew this place was here. Sunday brunch was GREAT! Price was a tad higher than other places (saw online it was $24.95, bill showed $27.95) if the price were any higher, it would be a stretch, but the food is worth it, quality and choice was great as well, from tri tip to ribs, omelette and taco stations, AND let's not forget some of the best choices for desserts! I'll definitely be back. Only thing that would be awesome that I'm honestly unsure if they do or not, is email discounts. We frequent El torrito/Acapulco often for Sunday brunch and they offer us discounts often for brunch.
Majares is a local icon. We especially like the outdoor patio area which feels festive. The service is very good and this last time we visited, the server was great! The food is good . . . classic American Mexican.
Slow service, had to ask for a waiter after waiting 10 minutes. Margaritas tasted like lemonade.
Monthly date with my wife
Aside from not offerings margaritas by the pitcher, I don't have too many complaints. The margaritas at $8.50 each are a little pricey. not sure there was much alcohol in them but perhaps that is for the best. We were a group of 7 getting together after many years of not seeing each other so we sat around and chatted for a very long time and the restaurant never made us feel rushed. Food is not particularly memorable but certainly good and hearty. It's been our go-to get together place for years as the location is convenient for many of us.
