Great spot for a valentines evening dinner
Good food, but probably the worst service I’ve had in years. Specifically with our waiter. I was astonished at the lack of professionalism and care for the guest. I will be reviewing on Yelp as well. The food and ambiance were great and we’ll be back for that. But the service seemed to overshadow the food, unfortunately.
Our mistake was a reservation on Valentine's day. I was late in making our reservation. The only time left was 3:30. Lunch menu only. We arrived at 3:00 in order to take advantage of the happy hour prices in the bar. When we checked in the lady told us our reservation was for 3:00 and our table was waiting. Disappointed, but we still wanted to make the best of it. We were sandwiched into our seats. We were about 2 ft away from our neighbors, My husband had a steak sandwich on a roll and he substituted his fries for a salad (additional $2). The steak was cooked perfectly. The roll was larger than the steak. We thought that $26 for the sandwich and salad was a bit stiff. I had the Asian chicken salad. I love Asian Chicken salads and have enjoyed them many times at other restaurants. The salad at Midgley's was huge but very sub par. The cabbage had a funny taste (maybe it wasn't fresh). We ordered garlic fries expecting them to taste like the fries at Oracle Park (Giants stadium). They were not similar at all. The fries were limp and became mushy in the middle. We took the fries home and I was able to resurrect them. What was the most appalling to me was the dinner served to the couple next to us. They ordered the Tomahawk ($85). They ordered the dinner to be split ($110 or $115). When their order came the lady was given an empty plate and the man was given the dinner plate and on another plate the steak. They were expected to split the meal including the steak. No one helped. I felt very sorry for them. My husband and I have ordered the Tomahawk dinner for two a couple of times previously. We paid no more than $10 for the split. When our plates arrived there was a complete dinner on both plates and the steak was on a separate plate. Our waiter split the steak for us. Our experience on Valentine's was very disappointing. It definitely did not measure up to the quality we have always enjoyed at Midgley's. Our waitress was awesome.
Great service on a Wednesday, food was good and not too noisy.
There's a reason Mike midgelys restaurant is a hit!! He's a great chef!! He's also a top chef winner which says a lot!!
I really enjoyed my visit to midgelys public house and would recommend it to just about anyone. I say just about anyone because it is pricey but if you can afford a great meal than this is the spot!!!! Try the tomahawk steak!!! You could probably even share it. But the food and ambiance was great!!!
Perfect experience with good staff !
Husband’s birthday. Ordered Beef Wellington. Was disappointed. Meat done well Pastry soggy. Demi glaze under par. Daughters rib eye delicious. Son’s filet mignon delicious.
We love Midgley’s. We go about once a week. The food is delicious! Our favorite dishes are the clam chowder, scallop risotto and seafood pasta. We just tried the lamb, it was outstanding. So tender with a super yummy sauce. The service is great. Our favorite server is Shannon, she takes good care of us. The ambiance is really nice. We go with my elderly father so we don’t like restaurants that are too noisy but are still a bit lively. That’s Midgley’s! It’s really nice during warm weather when we can sit on the patio ;-)
Good food with better people
The service was fantastic the steak special was a little tough
This was a return visit for dinner. The food was very food as well as the service. We will be returning.
Celebrated my boyfriends birthday here he really loved it definitely will be going back.
We happened to hit Midgley's during "restaurant week." They offered a special deal for 2 that included choice of soup or salad, 8 oz filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The price was a great deal and everything was well prepared and delicious. You could also add a dessert for $5. Our waiter was knowledgeable and "Just right" attentive. Truly a wonderful date night out. Would for sure go back.
We had 4 people for dinner. Three of us were very happy with the food but the fourth person’s meal was very disappointing - undercooked steak, cold sides, etc. The service was mediocre - it felt like the waiter forgot about us. The restaurant is very noisy as well. I haven’t been to Midgley’s for about a year - our visit made me to remember why. There’s nothing wrong with the place (other than the one meal) but it’s not the place for me.
Great place to eat and enjoy friends
Our server, Chris, is fantastic! Our drinks were superior but they lacked paper coaster, thus water circles on the table. A real easy fix in the future. We will be back!
When viewing the menus I saw there was a 48oz steak so I had to try it. It was nicely cooked with simple delicious flavor. The plating was less than desirable as the steak was on top of a mountain of fries and asparagus making it impossible I cut without destroying the entire meal. However the servers were wonderful and brought me a second plate so I could manipulate my steak properly. The portions of fries was excessive but tasty.
The service was a little slow a first but it improved throughout the meal. The food was excellent, everyone was very happy with their meal. A great experience!
Excellent experience. I ordered the Filet Mignon - Prepared to perfrction.
Always enjoy eating here. The food is always amazing.
Our group really enjoyed the food offered for restaurant week!!! Great drinks too!!!
Usually a great meal at Midgleys, but tonight it took a very long time for our entree to be served and when it was it was cold. Spoiled our dinner out!!!!
We ordered the Ahi Nachos and Asparagus Cigars, but didn’t receive them. As we were eating our entrees, I asked the waiter to make sure that we weren’t charged for the appetizers. He complied with the request, but I have to say, I was annoyed that he never offered an apology for the mistake. Also, I ordered a George T. Stagg but was given a George Dickel Rye, instead. In the end, the waiter saved me quite a bit of money (minus the 2 appetizers, price difference of the whiskeys, and the extreme reduction of the tip), but since I went to Midgley’s in the first place, I would have been fine with spending more.
Took over an hour for our food to come out between the appetizers and main course. Went from a great night to a frustrating night in that period of time.
We went out for a Birthday dinner and had a great time start to finish. Food was excellent and so was the service. One of our go to places for a nice night out.
Midgley’s was very good food. We took advantage of the Happy Hour 50% off appetizers! The avocado fries were outstanding! As well as the Fried Asparagus. The service was a little slow, they were busy, but overall it was a great experience, great food and we would definitely go back!
Midgley’s is my favorite restaurant in Stockton! Always a treat!
Very surprised at everything the food was great the service great. I will definitely be back and I want to try the happy hour next time.
1st time there. The clam chowder soup was what drew us to Midgley’s. We weren’t disappointed. So good!
Lovely locally owned restaurant in a strip mall. Quite a varied menu that included a few vegan/vegetarian options. A well rounded wine list with some excellent options in both reds and whites. Portions are generous so splitting is a good idea for some. Service was very professional. I’m very sorry I can’t remember her name as she deserves a shout out. Who ever worked until closing time on Thursday, you are wonderful.
The Salman sauce was from a can/? Pricy. Would not recommend the Salmon. The server gave soda instead of ice tea.
not too busy and equipped with extra heaters for outside seating
Midgley's has a very strange business model. They like to make customers wait a very long time, on a not so busy night, before a server comes by to ask about drinks, then an even longer time to receive those drinks. This happened to us and all tables within our view. Our waiter disappeared for long periods of time and dinner took much longer than it should have. Recommendation: eat in the bar, service is much better.
Very noisy place
My prime rib steak was served cold and it was reheated in the microwave.
Too loud of a place, food is good always consistent
The food is great. However, the service was horrible. The waiter must have been having a bad day. We were a party of 4 who brought 2 high end bottles of wine and also ordered one of the most expensive wines on the menu. We all ordered prime rib for our entrees. Mine was great at medium rare. However one in our party ordered medium and Hers was medium rare, so she sent it back. We normally tip 20% or more. Yet, because the service was so bad we only gave 10%.
We waited a REALLY long time for our server to even come over and greet us. Our reservation was at 11:30, and I don’t think we even
Great place and good food. Sat in the bar area so a bit loud but not a problem. Good service too. A bit pricey for the area but I'll be back.
We celebrated our 27th anniversary here on a Friday night and had a wonderful experience. Great food and drinks. Thank you to the chefs for a perfectly cooked steak and well thought out menu. We will be there again.
Great food beautiful atmosphere the snow outside really made us feel the Holidays were here
