I ordered the fish of the day. It was overlooked and dried out. Also too salty. The roasted kale in the plate was inedible as it was so salty that it had to have been cooked in water from the Dead Sea.
Given the pricing and the fact that this was the fish of the day it is inexcusable.
Moreover no one came by during the meal to see if everything was OK.
Rather shameful behavior by a restaurant of this caliber.
The background music was too loud.
We were three for dinner, staying nearby and visiting Toronto from the US. We enjoyed our meal. Food was very well prepared, the owners were very helpful and on their game. It was quiet, we can't understand why it wasn't more crowded. But we enjoyed that it was quiet as we wanted to talk and were able to do so.
If you re in downtown Toronto, this is a lovely spot for dinner.
Wonderful food and amazing service! The manager is amazing and gives wonderful service!
Excellent creative balanced food, superb staff and great energy.
Wonderful food and service.
We are from out of town and decided to try Mideastro based on the reviews and the content location across from the Four Seasons hotel, and what a great decision!!! The genuine and excellent service provided by Charles was unparalleled, he even had Chef James come out to explain our main course at the table ( the Cornish Hen was Devine!)... We will be coming back!
Delicious food. Great place. Would go back again.
The place was empty when we entered so my first impression was ohoh! However the energetic and overly gracious server/host made us feel at ease. He took our drink orders and told the evenings specials. We shared a salad which was large and easily enough for two and very good.
The Cornish hen which we thought would be spicy lacked that flavour of Moroccan tagine as was promoted. The cast iron rib steak was thin two pieces which the server brought in a 6" cast iron pan...obviously not cooked in it. It was lackluster and soso in flavour.
All in all we were disappointed. The whole time we were there six other guests arrived. Obviously not that popular a spot in Yorkville. On the return to the hotel many other restaurant were overflowing with people.
Five Stars are not enough for this restaurant. Our waiter was charming and very attentive. He had a great memory for our order including modifications we requested. He took our gentle ribbing with a smile and great dignity. He answered all of our questions, including the phenomenal music that was playing, in as much depth as we required.
Since most of us were from out of town we had not heard of Medeastro before. We had a friendly greeting and were seated in a comfortable spot near the entrance with great attention paid to us by 4 maybe 5 wait staff. Charles, the manager, was great a describing the dishes and making recommendations. We tried the fix priced meal and each picked different entres/mains. I think this menu was unique from their regular menu and it was hard to choose between the too. All 3 courses were delicious, especially the fish dish and hazelnut parfait. I recommend this to groups as well as to those looking for a romantic night out.
Great presentation and friendly staff and very cool menus, you will have to see for yourself, don't want to give away the surprise.
I had a lovely dinner here with my mother. We ate at Mideastro on the last night of our vacation.
My mum had the seafood platter and she adored it; she was disappointed we hadn't found the restaurant earlier in our trip.
I had the risotto and it was delicious. The highlight for me though was the complimentary breads and dip at the start of the meal. We were given Babba Ganoush as well as humus and salsa. The baba gaoush was AMAZING! I ate the entire thing and I was offered more, was tempted to take some home to Ireland with me
The restaurant decor was lovely and the staff were really attentive and also great craic, I appreciated the genuine service approach there was none of that fake niceness just really genuinely friendly staff.
It happened to be really quiet the night we were there, but the experience and food were great. If i'm ever back in Toronto I'd definitely return.
Mideastro is an excellent high-end restaurant. Unlike many higher-end restaurants in Toronto, there are generous portions served, and the food is reliably delicious. The service and ambiance are also fantastic. It is a bit pricey for an everyday meal, but it is definitely worth it for a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary.
Overall very mediocre. Would have expected more for the price.
This place is a gem! From the wine list choices, food, décor and personalized service. I would recommend Mideastro Yorkville to anyone visiting and to the locals. Will definitely go back next time I'm back in Toronto.
We sat outside on a summer evening and were almost their only customers, which was hard to understand as the food was uniformly excellent (halibut tagine, lamb chops) and attractively prepared. The waiter recommended a very reasonable dry Spanish red which we enjoyed. They were very generous with the houmous, babaghanoush etc which accompanied the bread. And all this (4 entrees, 2 large salads each big enough for a couple to share, wine and a free dessert for the birthday boy) was only $200. Highly recommended.
Appeared to be recently renovated or opened. No-one else was in the restaurant, so really lacked in ambiance. Calamari appetizer was good. Main dishes were ok. They did not know their wines at all. Left with an overall sense that this place will not be around for long in spite of all that seemed to be invested in the physical space.
Overall, a disappointing experience especially considering we have dined here in the past. Gluten free options stated on the menu weren't available. No explanation given. Ceviche turned out to be cubes of fish w halved grape tomatoes. Mains arrived cold and bland. Dessert offered forty - five minutes after plates cleared. We expected more
Best sea food platter ever, Braised lamb shank pasta was way tooooooo gooood.
The food and the service was excellent. I would come back any time and it is highly recommended.
Not sure if he was the owner or not, but there was one man (bald) who was such an amazing host. He waste reason I enjoyed my birthday. I'll most definetly be returning.
we were the only people there.
food was ok, service was so slow and very poor.
now understand why it closed down
lamb was bone dry. not acceptable for a resto in this price range..
Mideastro was a delight ! Lots of new and fresh menu selections that were very tasty and cooked perfectly. We enjoyed a 3 course dinner in 75 minutes and made it to our evening show. Very friendly staff and knowledgeable. Will go again.
Everything was good!!
I dined at Mideastro years ago but don't often think of it when planning dinner in Yorkville as it's just a little east of the main area. I'm so glad it popped up when I did a restaurant search because it was even better than I remember. The food selection was incredible and difficult to decide plus they had excellent sounding specials. We enjoyed a salad with figs, a beef tartare starter and went on to the truffle risotto and the lamb parpadelle. Everything was perfect and simply delicious. The service was exceptional - pretty sure we had the owner because he took such extra care in everything. I will be returning soon to enjoy all the menu items that also struck my fancy. Highly recommend!
Has a bit of an identity issue: menu is an odd mix of Mediterranean food but it delivers. Lamb shanks was deliciously slow-cooked.
A beautiful room made welcoming by charming and knowledgable service , and some of the best seafood I've had in Toronto.
We had Christmas Eve dinner with our family at Mideastro, it was a great find. Chaz took great care of us, started by making us feel very welcome. Followed by great cocktails, octopus appetizer was perfectly grilled and seasoned as were the other dishes at the table. The main dishes were also very very good, my mother loved her lamb shank and the paella was very nice.
I had the Braised lamb shank. The meat melted off the bones. The flavours were outstanding! Fantastic experience.
After recieving no greeting at the door (for way too long )and being completely ignored once seated (for way too long) we decided to walk out. Unfortunately we will never be able to comment on the food but we can definitely comment on the service........it is unacceptable !!!!!
Everything we ordered was great but two things stood out as a minor issue : waiters seemed overwhelmed with the Christmas party that was happening at the same time (come on, that can be planned for) so obviously we were de-prioritized; and they never read us the specials!
Highly recommend. Food was outstanding. Service was attentive, informative yet not intrusive.
Food was very good. Fusion with middle eastern flavour is something different from most other places.
The restaurant is welcoming and the staff friendly. Our server spent too much time describing all the ingredients of the daily specials. Overall, the main courses were very good (tasty and good portions) although much too much dressing on the salads. The negative was that we ordered dessert which did not come - even though we asked a second time. So, we left without it. It's also somewhat expensive.
First time there. The restaurant was beautiful. The food was fresh, delicious and beautifully prepared. The service was gracious and high end. I am a frequent visitor to Toronto and will definitely go back. For me it was a find.
I had to call late as we weren't going to make our reservation time. Chaz was fantastic with me; held our reservation an hour later; AND was happy to see us when we did arrive! Loved the atmosphere (mood lights hanging from the ceiling, AND the menus had blue LED back lighting for touch more light to read the menu!) Food was fantastic - mid-Eastern fusion fare! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I would definitely reserve again when I return to Toronto! Good job, Mideastro!!
Few patrons the night we were there, a Friday, but food was good. A treat to have a salad that wasn't cold, straight out of the fridge. Waiter was informative, and steered us away from what h thought was a poor performing red on the wine list, to something less expensive, and likely better. Had a pasta main, which wasn't very daring on my part, but was rich and flavourful. Would go again, and opt for something more exciting on the menu next time
Not sure why it was such a quiet night, but the food was great, the service genial and the night was all-around yummy. Plenty to entertain the gluten-free, pescaterian set.
The food selections on this menu range from Greek to Moroccan to Spanish. We had a large group which ordered a variety of dishes, and all were consistently great and delivered to the table hot and within a minute of each other. The service was great, however I will confess that it was a very slow night and there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant. The waiter, Charles, was invaluable in selecting a good wine with dinner and also made the end of the evening perfect with a perfectly prepared pot of Mint tea and an aperitif. I would very much recommend this place to any of my friends and associates. It was a perfect way to end our trip to Toronto!
Food options were varied. Catch of the day was excellent. Service was attentive and timely. (Charles). Overall a very pleasant experience
