About Permanently Closed - Mideastro Thornhill
This restaurant is permanently closed.
Mideastro Thornhill is a contemporary Italian-Mediterranean restaurant with an interior decorated in a royal style with iridescent candles and golden chandeliers with subdued yet defined décor that creates a very distinct dining experience. The manager John also makes it a point to visit each and every table, introduce himself to the patrons and enquire about their meal.
Mideastro Thornhill's chef is considered an expert in preparing lamb shank, spaghetti bolognese, squid ink linguine and frito misto. Mideastro Thornhill is very selective when it comes to its drinks as well, with a vast range of craft beers on taps, authentic wine pairings with the meal and even artisanal cocktails prepared by the bartenders present here. The Nutella banana dessert is considered a novelty of this restaurant.

Mideastro Thornhill - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We got there on time for a 6:00 reservation. This gave us one and a half hours to have our dinner before attending the theatre across the street. The show was at 7:30. We ordered our food within the first 15 minutes of arriving . Our appetizers salads took half an hour to get to us. We never received the rest of our meal within the allotted remaining time and left the restaurant without receiving our meal . We were completely disappointed and frustrated by the time we left and will never return to this restaurant again they were rude and not understanding and completely ignored us when they knew we were rushing to get out.
It was an important dinner to us as we were entertaining my sons new girlfriend and this did not leave a very good lasting impression on her or us . We will not return.
Calamari and shrimp were really tender. Tasty and well prepared pasta, Papardelli and the Carbonara were just right al dente and well seasoned. Nutella Parfait was not a Parfait, creme anglais was barely a hint, but still enjoyable. Service was excellent, food was served in a very timely manner, Manager was friendly and pleasant to speak with.
everything was very good but it took a very long time for the food to come out. we had to ask for bread because we were starving. the ambiance, décor and setting was lovely and the wait staff very courteous. all of us enjoyed the experience but it took over an hour to get our food--too long. we will return and we enjoyed the specials that they had,
We usually don't write reviews, but this one is well deserved. Dined here with friends and had an amazing time. Our server (manager?) was engaging and knowledgeable and made great recommendations, and the food was so good we just had to share all dishes. We ordered salads and pizza to start - all of which were great. The squid ink linguine came without squid ink but the server explained some people were off-put by black pasta... and it was just as well because it was delicious without.
It seemed quiet for a Sunday, but maybe just because of the long weekend.
In short, just a gem of a restaurant. We will definitely return.
The restaurant itself is nice inside.
The service was a bit slow.
The waiter said he wouldn't recommend a particular item on the menu, which was kind of a surprise and should've been an indication of what was to come.
The food was sub-par. The homemade pasta was over cooked, poorly seasoned and lightly dressed.
Many of the offered items weren't available.
The music didn't seem to fit the space.
I wouldn't return here.
From appetizers to dessert and coffee, everything was outstanding!!
Can't wait to go back soon and try other items on the menu.
All the dishes tasted fresh and just perfectly spiced. Not too bland and not too spicy or salty. European sea bass was one of the best, if not the best I ever had. Beef carpaccio rolls for an appetizer were tender, flavorful and just delicious. My husband and I shared it but decided for the next time to just keep it for ourselves. No sharing!!
Tiramisu had fresh berries on top and it had a special twist to it. Not your run of the mill kind of dessert. We spent a few weeks in Italy last fall and I am happy to say that this restaurant did not make us miss the "real " Italian food. And the service was excellent as well. Very friendly and welcoming. Fast and efficient. 10 out of 10
Thank you for this great experience!!
We celebrated our daughter's 10th b-day - Mideastro is our favourite special occasion restaurant (although with their promotion on Mondays and Tuesdays - we'll be there more often). They made her feel so special. The linguine carbonara was incredible, as was the pizza my husband had. We always start with the beef carpacio - our daughter is addicted to the balsamic reduction.
Three of four people had the Osso Buco and everyone enjoyed it. One had Fettuccine with mussels, scallops and shrimp in white wine sauce and also enjoyed it. It may be that it took over an hour to serve the main course and everyone was starved by then, but we all did really think the food was delicious. Finally the Nutella Parfait for dessert was to die for. So in summary we'd go back and hope that the service or the kitchen or whoever was responsible for the long wait and spotty service just had this one bad night.
My husband and I went back to mideastro for a second time and this time it was a very pleasurable experience. The owner of the restaurant is extremely caring and nice. He truly cares about the customers. The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly. We would definitely go back again. It also has a very nice, intimate ambiance.
I have been to Mideastro in the past and highly recommended the restaurant to my friends who joined me and my husband for dinner there this past Saturday. Not only was I disappointed but also, really embarrassed. The food was HORRIBLE. There was a large party there and instead of closing the restaurant for the private event, the kitchen staff showed zero interest or effort in our order. The meatballs were cold and hard, Caesar salad croutons stale, eggplant parm cold and steaks cold, overcooked and had no flavour. The complementary dessert offered to make up for the rest was barely enough for 2 people. Then the credit card machine didn't work, taking 1/2 dozen tries to make payment. This should have been their hint not to charge us. Instead, they said that the manager would call me, which didn't happen. The waiter was nice, and kept apologizing but the entire experience makes us never want to go back.
Upon entering the restaurant several people who worked there saw us yet we weren't approached for 2 minutes. To get bread on our table took over 20 minutes. Not once did the waiter ask us how everything is or if we needed anything. Horrible service. I ordered a penne a la vodka in a cream sauce. There was nothing cream about it. It was butter.
I had a reservation for Friday October 16 for a friends special occasion
I had never been this to this restaurant before.
The atmosphere was great and we had a very romantic both. The food was great. Great taste and good portions. The service was incredible , staff went out of their way to make it an incredible evening.
We came in on Sunday night with a reservation for 7 people. It was a special occasion as we were celebrating 2 birthdays. The host called me after our opentable reservation to let us know that we would be accommodated in a private room as the restaurant was booked for another party. We were pleased with the room and the food. However, we noticed a couple of things missing and this correlates directly to service. A) We ordered the fritto misto, but it was served without the greens, we were told by the server this is a large dish plated on a salad. B) However I was most disappointed that when we ordered the nutella banana dessert as this was missed completely. Instead only 2 complimentary deserts were served for the birthday guests as promised. We did not make a fuss as we were celebrating a special occasion, and although we enjoyed the food, I cannot see a reason to return to the restaurant. I feel that although the servers were friendly, they lacked attention to our meal and were in a rush to pack up and go home. If they were overwhelmed by the other party, they should not have accommodated us in the first place.
This was my third visit to Mideastro Thornhill and I was not disappointed. The menu is more Italian now than Mediterranean fusion but the quality is the same. My dietary requests were met and the food was excellent. Service was excellent and the waiter was very friendly. Will go back again.
Our friends and I were very impressed with the service and delicious meal. Eitan was a wonderful server and did everything to make our evening enjoyable. My only criticism would be the decor. In my opinion the restaurant can use a face lift. Perhaps new fixtures, flowers on he tables, remove the red table cloths....brighten up the room. I will definitely come back.
Good food with excellent service. It was for my best friend's birthday and I made a note when I booked with Open Table. After we finished our meal, the server brought us a dessert written "Happy Bday, Joanne". Surprised my best friend and we had a great time there. We will definitely come back.
The food was excellent. The service was great. The night we were there a group of grade 8 students
came in to celebrate their graduation and were very noisy. Other than that I would recommend
the restaurant to friends. Thank you for the free desserts to make up for the noisy patrons.
The food was excellent...well presented and cooked perfectly our party of six (4yr old included) all ordered various pastas and everyone was very pleased with their choice as being the best one. Our total dining experience spanned two and a half hours and a good chunk of that time was spent waiting for our food, which did put a damper on our experience. Now the place was fairly full at the time of our arrival but required several queries with the wait staff on the status of our food to be informed that the kitchen was down one chief and therefore running behind....what I would have liked is being informed at the time of seating so we all could have been prepared for the delay.
Now it should be noted that the restaurant did offer the entire table our desserts on the house and were apologetic once the restaurant had started to thin out which in my books is always appreciated by the patron.
Overall if you are looking for a lovely experience with fresh, well presented, well cooked dishes that won't break your wallet...this would be my choice....and we will definitely be going back.
We have been to Mideastro a number of times and it is excellent each time. The service is great with personable and helpful wait staff and the food is excellent. I had the Portabello mushroom salad to start which was absolutely delicious and i savored every bite. This is a true neighborhood gem. It feels like you are at a downtown restaurant when you are inside.
Booked for Valentine's Day. Didn't know what to expect, when we drove up and noticed it was in a plaza, I thought oh oh this might not be good. Given that it was Valentine's Day, knew it would be tough to get something else so rather than scrambling around, decided to tough it out. We were surprised when we entered the restaurant. The place was tastefully decorated, well appointed, food was very good but above all the service attitude was amazing. The servers were extremely attentive, even if it wasn't their table. We had a very romantic dinner and would highly recommend mideasto to anyone.
