Michel's at the Colony Surf Ratings and Reviews
Michele's was wonderful yet again. A wonderful wedding anniversary dinner. We were though pretty disappointed that we didn't get a window table. I had made our reservation almost two months earlier and had made the request. David N was a great waiter. Did apologize for not being able to get our request. But did give us his card for our next visit.
The tiki torches outside are no longer lit. Sounds trivial but it really detracts from the magical experience Michel’s once was.
The food wasn’t good on this visit. I asked if the chef had changed. It’s the same staff but apparently ownership of the restaurant changed hands last year.
Celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary at Michel's because the atmosphere and ocean front views at sunset are spectacular and romantic. The staff and our server did a great job to make our special occasion a memorable one. Open Table indicates the cuisine is French but most of the menu is steak and seafood. Our soups, appetizer and entrees were nicely presented and delicious. I ordered the Steak Diane and the steak was done just right; however, the sauce was a bit too light in taste. The restaurant brought us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary which was a delicious and perfect end to an excellent dinner.
This was not our first time at Michel's but the first time in several years. It was a beautiful sunset which is exactly what we hoped for. In fact, that's why our reservation was for 5:30. We were familiar with the ambiance and it was just as nice as we remembered. The food was excellent and the service was first-rate. My wife needed a little help in deciding what to order and Pasha explained the different dishes very clearly. All in all, a very enjoyable dining experience.
We have been to Michel’s many times before, but never for New Years Eve. We were very disappointed in both the rushed service as it was obvious they were trying to turn the tables quickly for the next seating. We were also shoved into an extra table with no view and the ambience of being in the middle of the staff rushing from one table to the next. We expect much more from Michel’s and wouldn’t recommend it as a place to dine for New Years Eve.
There was a mistake in our online reservations, but they accommodated us and gave us a lovely table right on the beach with a great view. We started with the escargot and lobster bisque, had the lamb chops and steak and lobster main courses, and cherries jubilee for desert. The food was excellent and the cherries jubilee was scrumptious and just making it at the table was a lovely production. They gave us a free coconut cheesecake for our anniversary, but honestly the cherries jubilee was so great that the cheesecake was then just mediocre. I was so full, I could only eat a half of one of the lamb chops, so we had them for dinner the next day and they were still wonderful.
Traditional French fine dining. The food preparation was outstanding, even the one's done tableside (there are several items that are finished or prepared tableside). The service here is classical - with complementary amuse bouche and the mid meal "palate cleanser" sorbet. The kitchen was a bit slow this evening, perhaps because they may have been understaffed or busier due to the holiday season. Nevertheless, the food was worth the wait. The items of particular note: very thin, tasty lavosh; warm seafood salad; fresh fish en papillotte; filet migon with foie gras; cherries jubilee; grand marnier souffle. The only disappointment was there was no recognition of the fact that we were celebrating our 51st wedding anniversary even though this was noted on our reservation.
Im not really sure what happened. Table was great. Our server started fine then after dinner was rushed out it took 30 mins to get dessert menus and 45 mins of waiting for dessert...we waited so long we were ignored I had to get up and cancelled so it basically ruined my birthday celebration.
I have eaten here so many times where service was 5 star. Our poor server seemed slammed. Not enough wait help. He kindly took the coffee order off our tab and apologized...unfortunate because I was with a prominant businessman.
Overall the staff was fabulous. I got the lamb chops that were incredible, another got the Chipino which was great too. My wife and son both got the seafood bounty, which unfortunately came out cold and was disappointing. Our waiter took it back and it came out hot and tasty the second time. For the price, that was unacceptable, but thanks to the waiter it saved the experience. Unfortunately I can't remember his name but we would certainly go back.
My girlfriends & I have been coming to Michel's for over 10 years for a birthday & an early Christmas get together. We manage to get a table by the "window" for the awesome view. Michel's has never disappointed us with their fantastic service & delicious food! The goat cheese lamb chops were awesome! A special thank you to our outstanding server, Jenna! We will be back next year!
Went for our 2nd year anniversary. Had the Scottish salmon, seafood paupiote, steak dianne and the cherries jubilee. Phenomenal. From the time we sat down the the moment we left. Phenomenal. Roughly a 200 dollar meal that we had a gift certificate for, but it's one of those meals you would be completely content for spending so much on. Everything was perfection. If you want a romantic, fine dining experience on the shore with VERY reasonably priced FINE DINING foods....this is it. Comparable to Le Mer.
Much better before the buy out. Food still competent but not anything to write home about. More tables, so it is crowded and much less intimate. Noisier. Electronic music instead of Hawaiian musicians. Closed windows, instead of open air. Rushed food. It wasn’t the same ambiance. Burgundy and Bordeaux wine prices were escalated. But domestic wines without reviews were bargains. Evidently the current owners don’t really know anything about wine. A sad turn for this formerly iconic restaurant. It was a go to for us. Always reliable, with spectacular food. Not now. Find another place to go.
Great restaurant located on the edge of Waikiki, away from the hustle and bustle. Service is attentive and responsive - really excellent. Food is good, but not spectacular. Table side preparation is a treat as not many restaurants do tableside service any longer. Nice views of the sunset and water. Breezy and can be cool, so bring a jacket or sweater. Live music was EXCELLENT! The guitarist is amazingly talented. Restaurant needs a refresh as everything is dated and unexciting. It is stuck in the 1960s...
