Beautiful sunset view, great service, and generous wine pour. And the food was great!
Been dining at Michel's for 5 years but will never be back. New ownership has not served this delightful place well. One of my party was vegetarian. Not catered for (except a single option of a vegetable pasta - lazy for a 5 star restaurant) even though stated at time of booking. Totally ok for restaurants not to cater for dietary requirements but let customers know so they can choose an alternative venue.
Staff didn't look happy and not attentive, as experienced in the past. Beautiful house bread selection is now one piece of garlic bread, you know, garlic bread like Pizza Hut or the Cheesecake Factory. Had to ask for it to be served right at the start of the meal (as is customary) as apparently "chef doesn't want people to fill up on it". Chef is clearly more used to feeding children under 5 than those who are responsible for their own levels of food intake.
Michel's claims to be "haute French cuisine" however my entree was some kind of fish ramen. While it tasted nice there was nothing French about it. And the oysters for appetizer were no bigger than a dime.
What an enormous shame. Beautiful location and a wonderful past reputation. However this place is a shadow of its former self.
While, in the short term, the tourists may continue to flock (and new customers won't have its former greatness to compare to the current state as I have) it feels like, as more and more high end restaurants are opening in Waikiki, that Michel's will be left well behind. It no longer offers anything special.
Do yourselves a favour and go to Le Mer. Faultless every time. I will not be returning to Michel's nor recommending it to anyone.
I loved the relaxed atmosphere and the level of service. The staff was attentive, polite and truly demonstrated the Aloha spirit. The menu options were just right and for the quality and portion sizes, the prices were on point.
Everything about this place was amazing. We ended up there right at sunset and it was gorgeous. The service was the best I’ve had. Jenna was our waitress and she was so incredible and sweet. The food and the makawao mule were delicious as well as the dessert martinis :)
Service is slow and pretentious; food is forgettable and over priced; ambience is that of a solemn affair. The view was probably golden years ago, but there is a small beach directly outside the restaurant with people doing beach stuff while you are eating in what is supposed to be an upscale restaurant.
I was thoroughly disappointed and would never suggest to anyone that they waste their time or money at Michel's. We were there 2 hours and did not order dessert or coffee because of the pace of the meal.
The staff was on top of things! Attentive and made us feel like they genuinely cared about our dinner service. The food was delicious and prepared well! Our first time dining at Michel's, but not our last! Excellent staff!
We had reservations for 5:30P, we arrived a few minutes early; however, we were not able to enter the restaurant. We had to wait in the lobby on a bench outside of the restaurant. Not a problem, but had we known this would be the situation, we would have stopped somewhere else for a pre-dinner cocktail.
That being said, the dinner experience, overall, was excellent! I look forward to dining at Michel's again in the near future.
The view is the BEST. Food, prices, service are $$ -- but the experience is worth it !!!
Awesome evening as usual, we always try to make it here when we visit! Service was great as usual!
We do miss the tiki torches outside however
The receptionist's women's response is bad.
he waiter is unkind, too.
Restaurants with scenic value only.
We returned to Michel's on the last night of our trip to Hawaii. We have a special connection to this restaurant since we went here on our first date over 41 years ago and hadn't been back to Honolulu for quite a while. I'm delighted to say that the place is even better than I remember. An incredible location right on the beach, and it has been renovated several times to keep it up to date. We started with lobster bisque, then on to Caesar Salad, followed by Chateaubriand and finally bananas Foster...the classics, and all prepared table side. What a culinary experience it was! We'll certainly not wait another 41 years to go back.
I have been going to Michel's for over 30 years. It is one of a kind for table side preparations (a lost art in this day and age) and the location/view is spectacular. The food is always delicious, the service top notch and we always leave feeling very satisfied and special. This is my favorite place for celebrating a special occasion. There is nothing on the menu that I would not recommend. Highly recommended, always!
Beautiful sunset and terrific meal. Thanks to our waiter Joel. We will be back!
Fabulous location. Great table. Incredible food. Charming Staff...
Our go-to place for annniversaries. Wonderful food, excellent service, lovely view by the ocean. We appreciated being seated at the table we requested and the complimentary dessert commemorating our celebration.
Lovely location, great food nice place for a romantic evening
Great atmosphere, view, and service! An especially appropriate option for celebrating occasions.
Location Location Location! View View View! Food okay. A small fly flew into my white wine glass and I told the waiter. They just scooped it up and brought it back. Would you drink it? The waiter said “in an open restaurant like this we have no control over bugs get into the wine.” Fair enough. But I told him, nevertheless, the restaurant has 100% control about what to do about it.
Possibly the most romantic restaurant in world. Great food ,excellent wine list. Sited on the beach near Diamond Head, overlooking Waikiki Beach. Simply 1 of the finest around
Ordered Lobster during a 2 course menu and they informed me it was the last one they had. I had to pay 162 USD ¡¡ WAs very simply cooked sauces , soja and melted butter. Too simple for a such a supposed to be outstanding cuisine
Better for a lunch , then you can have daylight view of Waikiki, unless you prefer to watch Waikiki skyline by night
Overall dissapointed after having paid 380 USD, gratuity included
We have spent wonderful time for birthday dinner with great dish, service and sunset.
Every dishes is tasty and staff serve each dishes very politely and kindly. And they escort us to silent sheet so we can enjoy our dinner with my wife.
The most amazing and spectacular view of the sunset. WOW!
The food was amazing, the staff were so attentive and courteous!
A top notch experience!
Superbe en tout! Vue, service et nourriture ... très attentionné ... wow
Outstanding view, service very good, salads and entres all very good. New additions to the mneu are very good. Wine list is very good
This is our second time. The food is exceptional. Great location and GREAT place for sunset viewing over the beach. Our table was slightly less than ideally located, but still a wonderful experience and will DEFINITELY go back.
Food and service were excellent. Would recommend for any occasion.
Food was just mediocre and for overpriced, but it is Hawaii so perhaps should’ve expected it. Go somewhere else for a special occasion. Not worth the money.
The food was outstanding and the view at sunset was incredible!
Frank, our server was awesome and attended to our every need.
Celebrated our birthdays at Michels again. As usual, excellent food and service at the perfect beachside location. Chef Hardy and GM Philip welcomed us personally (once again). Our waiter remembered us from last time and alerted Chef Hardy that his friends where dining there again. So nice to be treated like a welcome friend and not just a customer. We even ordered a couple of items no longer on the menu (potato crusted opakapaka and abalone appetizer), but with prior request, they were happy to oblige.
We came in for a Saturdate and everything went well
Service was perfect!
Food was very good and as we expect when we eat here
Mahalo to Chef Hardy, Phillipe and the Team
Throw back vibe. Our favorite restaurant in the world. Gorgeous meals you can't get anywhere else, like tableside made Ceasar Salad, flambayed Steak Diane, and Cherries Jubilee. Fine dining, fine service, with white tablecloths and open air candle lit ambiance on the beach. It doesn't get any better than Michel's.
very good restaurant. view is fantastic. server is very kind. food is very delicious.
Travis served us and was very knowledgeable and attentive without being in our face. Everything was lovely and we both commented it was possibly our best meal in a very long time. The only issue was when I ordered a bloody Cesar I got a bloody Mary. We thought we were clear about the clamato juice not not worth complaining about when everything else was perfect.
This is a first-class restaurant which offers up a great selection of choices especially strong in seafood. The service was excellent and whilst this is not an inexpensive place to eat, it is nonetheless good value for money.
Wonderful experience. It was romantic and perfect for my 49th Birthday. Beautiful view and excellent service. My Birthday dessert was absolutely scrumptious!
