Food uniformly delicious. Wine list exemplary. Prompt, thoughtful service that was never intrusive. Intimate and comfortable.
Greeted and seated promptly by friendly older hostess. Service was prompt however drinks took a little long. Ordered scallop cerviche which was flavor less. Fortunately dinner steak and lamb were fabulous. Food would have been a 5 if we didn’t have the app. Great place
Everything about the place was great but not what we had expected. We had read that it was a 'tasting room' with a tapas-type menu. Instead it is the traditional first course/entree menu. So we did some creative shuffling to make it what we had expected.
The wine menu was so intimidating that I decided to drink iced tes!
Nice location, and quaint little restaurant that gives you a nice Italian feel. We made a reservation for Sunday Brunch, which wasn't necessary. Appetizers were very good we had the Goat Cheese Terrine and Cast Iron Shrimp. While the entrees ( Spanish Benedicts & Open Crab BLT) were disappointing in taste their Bellini's made up for it. I expected a wine tasting room to have wine flights, but we made the most of it.
Had a family dinner for 6 adults on Saturday that was fabulous. From the waiter who knew his menu and was interactive to the food itself all was wonderful. Will be happy to return again in the future
We had a private room for our group of 12 that was set up as we arrived. Service was excellent, food delicious, and location in historic district great. Though we did not use it in particular, the restaurant has an extensive wine selection. Staff were very well dressed and very attentive and very courteous.
As always, great food, great service, great atmosphere.
A Gem in the heart of Saint Augustine.
They advertise tapas. When we arrived they said they switched to the spring menu. Food was good, but wasn't what was advertised. Now just like another restaurant in town.
Never disappointed at Michael’s . They always meet our expectations of excellence ! Food was outstanding as always !
We were pleased with the preparation, presentation and flavors of all our menus choices. The wine list is extensive, eclectic and reasonably priced. Have already recommended the Tasting Room to friends and family.
Had an excellent meal sitting out on their little porch. Appreciated the complimentary sparkling wine as they knew it was our anniversary. Both that and the glass of wine I ordered were generous pours. Mussels were really good, with lots of "stuff" in there! Beet salad was fine, not outstanding. Lamb dish was excellent and my hubby said they used a very good cut of meat. Service was wonderful. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the menu is a bit limited.
What a wonderful evening. The food was fantastic. The service was outstanding. A hidden gem in St. Augustine. My wife and I will definitely be returning on our next trip.
Best ever filet. The waiters were very helpful and attentive. Also recommend the shrimp appetizer
The restaurant is very nice inside and we had high hopes as we walked in but the fact that it's a very busy time in St. Augustine with tourists and the restaurant was mostly empty was a little concerning. We were greeted promptly and served our bottle of wine from the expensive list right away. Our marinated Manchego cheese appetizer was wonderful although having some bread with it would have been nice. After we ordered our entree we finally had to ask about getting some bread and were told "with all of the gluten free people out there we only serve bread if you ask for it", really??? We both ordered the catch of the day which when we sat down were told was going to be sheepshead but when we ordered were told it was corvina, it was served over a pasty risotto and was overcooked and dry. Considering the prices for both the wine and the food we expected better and will try someplace else next time.
Awesome tapas. Great deserts and wine! Always a treat!
Fantastic server. We do miss the old tastings or pairings menu.
First time at this restaurant. High expectations that were dashed by poor service . Stood for 10 minutes waiting to be greeted and left after 35 minutes not yet having been served our drink order.
I went to a lot of trouble trying to find the perfect romantic and tasty restaurant for a date night with my husband on a recent trip to St. Augustine. I bombed out on all levels. We started out well, in that they had a wine we really liked. When our server Sara started to tell us about the menu, we were immediately turned off my her constant reusing of the word "incredible" while describing the various dishes. We were exited to see octopus on the appetizer listings and ordered it. What we got was not prepared properly. This is something we order pretty often if it's on the menu. I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it. It was like chewing on a tire, although I truthfully have never done that. We sent it back and the server commented that no one had ever done that. Now onto the whole snapper we order as our main course. My husband thought that it was dropped into a deep fat fryer, left in there too long and served up. Presentation was beautiful. Fish was so so. I've had tastier fish at McDonald's. When we received our check, I noted that they overcharged us for the bottle of wine. We figured they were trying to make up for the octopus we sent back. After waiting about 15 min, the manager came back with a corrected bill and apologized for the error. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. ...and don't even get us started on the entertainment.
Love to go here when in St. Augustine. Service is excellent and food too.
We had very high expectations for this restaurant after reading previous reviews. The wine list was several pages long and imaginative. The menu, however, was limited to typical fare. We were greeted quickly and courteously by the hostess. After taking our drink order, the waiter, David, seemed to forget us. We had to ask for bread to go with the oil and butter already on the table. Salads and appetizers were excellent. The entrees were good, (5 of us had different choices) but not outstanding. Overall, the experience was fine, but not what we had expected based on previous reviews.
Good overall
Very good restaurant with a great atmosphere. Very different items on the menu, with great service. Great place for a special occasion.
We've returned several times and this is a wonderful restaurant! The unique flavors of the many different dishes never dissapoints!
Try the cheese plate, shrimp and octopus! It was all so good and we couldn't finish it! So full and can't wait to return! Just go!
Love the tapas menu, sangria and large wine list. I had been there before, but a first for my hubby. Service was good and atmosphere was relaxing. We look forward to going back.
Lovely, romantic, tasty
Loved everything about this new find for me In St Augustine. I felt like I was back in Spain! Cudos to the maitre'd who patiently guided me to just the right table to accommodate my disability and our waitress who really catered to our every need! Reasonably priced for excellent food, have the Surf, Turf and Air, mouth watering!
Second time here with a foursome and everyone loved their food- all eight meals. Great wine selection
We went into Michael's Tasting Room excited given the high reviews. Unfortunately the poor service put a damper on our visit. The food was pretty good but for the price and service, it was not worth it.
We arrived in town earlier than expected and the staff was willing to seat us right away. The food and service was amazing. Can't wait to get back!
When I made the reservation, I put in a note that it was a birthday. That was not acknowledged by the restaurant but I enjoyed my meal and the experience.
A first class resturant. We always enjoy it and bring our friends from out of town there.Great waiter Greg and incredible food.
Our waiter Greg was exceptional
Great evening! Greg, our server, was outstanding. We had Tapas only and we would do that again any day!!
Really great food at fair prices.
We had Squid and Oyster appetizers along with a Peach & Burrata salad. The salad was surpisingly large and very good. The Oysters were very good. the Squid had a good flavor, but was chewy.
This was a terrific dining experience. The restaurant is attractive and the tables are well spaced. The restaurant was full, but the noise level was low, making it easy to talk. The service was very good, and the food was outstanding. Unfortunately, we were only visiting St. Augustine; if we lived nearby we would definitely become regulars at this fine restaurant.
We tried about five recommended restaurants in St. Augustine, and this was our favorite! EVERYTHING we ate was just delicious. If you like fine dining with and a diverse menu, you'll love Michael's Tasting Room.
We loved every item ordered. Starters: the grilled oysters, the shrimp with chorizo, and the tomato burrata salad, were delicious. Very fresh and distinctive flavors.
Two of us ordered the surf, turf and air entree - best meal I've had in a long time, even compared to NYC dining. The third person in our party had the pork dish which was the most tender he ever had. Each dish had an assortment of seasonal vegetables.
For dessert we shared the tres leches cake. We were all happy with it.
This was our second dinner experience at Michael's Tasting Room and would go again and again!
We received 2 phone calls to confirm our reservation after we already had an online confirmation number and then when we arrived for dinner, the restaurant was empty except for one couple inside. They were filming a couple and the owner for advertising purposes at the table near us which was distracting with very bright lights and the entree for two that we wanted was not available even though it was on the menu. This was not mentioned in the phone call just a half hour before our reservation. The lobster was also substituted for crab and it was ice cold from the refrigerator and put on top of my husband’s steak. The waiter didn’t ask how the steak should be cooked and even when he was told rare, it was not. The lobster paella was bland and boring with just peas and didn’t even come with a salad. It cost $25 as the special of the day. The craft beer was undrinkable and the red wine was not very good either.
The food at Michael's Tasting Room is superb! The entree menu is rather small, but it doesn't seem that a restaurant needs a large menu to offer meals that you will remember. I started with Tuna Cruda, rare seared ahi tuna on house chips with avocado puree. Just writing this review makes me want to go back to be able to eat these morsels again! There was a zippy little heat to them, one of the tastiest things I have had in a long time. Each one was just the right size to pop into your mouth. Hubby started with Sautéed Shrimp Al Ajillo. He said it was delish. It must have been, because it disappeared pretty quickly! From there we moved on to Sea Scallops for me, which were seared just the right amount, and Pork Flat Iron Steak for him. We don't know why the waiter gave Hubby a knife, because the meat just fell apart, it was cooked to such perfection. As an added bonus, the meals come with grilled seasonal vegetables. I have no idea what the vegetables were that we ate, but they were very tasty. You cannot get a mixed drink at Michael's, but their wine list is extensive, and they have a good beer selection as well. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing. This was one of the best dining experiences we have had since moving to St. Augustine half a year ago.
