Michael's Tasting Room Ratings and Reviews
Enjoyed our first night out with the baby while also celebrating a birthday. Audrey took amazing care of us. We enjoyed all of her great recommendations from the food menu to the wine / beer / and sangria selection. We Would make the drive down again to dine in.
Let me preface this review first by saying maybe I just ordered the wrong dish because of the 7 others dining with us their meals were quite tasty. I ordered the Pork Flat Iron which came with a side of small round potatoes. The Pork was on the oily/greasy side and it was quite small. The potatoes also had quite a bit of oil. Not that the dish was bad, it just wasn't great and would give it two stars. I also had the Pulpo (octopus appetizer) It was tasty but a bit chewy as well. It was served with two very large French fries which actually saved the dish. My wife ordered the salmon and it was excellent as was the spicy black rice it was served over. Others in our party ordered the filet, (tasty and tender but small), & the tuna appetizer which was delish. The steamed mussels in a bacon tomato broth was quite good as were the Pinchos Boricua. They claim to have a huge wine selection and their menu is extensive. Only problem is they were out of bottles we requested. Same with the beer. I ordered a Moritz, (From Barcelona), and was told they were out of it. It's great that they tout their wine selection, not so great when they are out of items on the menu. The wait staff was attentive and friendly.
My wife and I went there for dinner on a trip to see St Augustine lights. We were warmly greeted, and waitress was prompt and friendly. Extensive wine list. The menu list was not extensive but a good variety of foods offered. And the foods were very good. My wife had braised ribs of beef that were very tender and exceptionally tasteful. I had a salmon steak that was mild, tender and flaky, with a very tasty sauce. Sides and dessert were great as well. The ambience is fine with an old English flavor. Our thanks for a great dinner.
It was my girlfriend Kem’s 26th birthday. Tasting room came heavily recommended by friends who had been in there before. It did not disappoint one bit. From the decor, atmosphere, amazing food and not to mention our server Greg was amazing delight. He was so knowledgeable about every aspect to the restaurant. He def made our evening one we wouldn’t forget. Thanks to michaels tasting room, we had an evening we will never forget.
Micheal's is one of my favorite restaurants in St. Augustine, FL. Chef Michael Lugo is an excellent chef. His small bites you could make a meal with. We enjoy his dinner menu as well. The octopus was a treat to get in Florida! We love to go there for special occasions! I had the filet of beef and my husband had salmon. Michael's Wine Room is one of the best in Florida!
It was my birthday and my husband took me there!
Our meal was from a special date night menu. First came a bite sized hors d'oerve called an Amuse. The beet and goat cheese topping was tasty but the tiny pancake-like base tasted soapy. It was paired with a sparkling rose with a pleasant fruity note.
Next came a delightful green salad with a soft vinegarette that did not overwhelm the taste buds. I chose the viscysois of shrimp, scallops, and mussels in a light tomato and wine broth. Delicious! The toast points were burnt, though. My wife chose the broiled scallop entree. They were done just right. The entrees were paired with a choice of red or white wine. I did not ask about the variety but it was smooth like a cabernet. The meal concluded with a rich, moist brownie bite.
Service was excellent. Th staff was attentive at just the right times.
We went to Michaels Tasting Room for a birthday. The Appetizers were great! The main dishes, I wasn't too crazy about. The wine was also great. Our waiter was nice, the lights were dimmed pretty low, so it was a little hard to read the menu. It was a cool intimate ambiance. If I go next time, I'll just eat tapas and drink wine.
We got the idea to visit this restaurant because it did a good job at a huge food and wine dinner a couple of weeks earlier. Last evening we were seriously disappointed at the restaurant. We sampled four dishes on the tapas menu. Weak ingredients, including some that should have been fresh but were canned; uninspired preparation. Waiter didn’t apologize when asked to correct an overcharge on wine or when he presented the corrected bill. Maybe the restaurant just wasn’t fielding it’s A Team on an almost deserted Halloween night.
We had 5 people at dinner, ordered 5 appetizers and an entree for the entire table to share. This was an awesome way to dine, everyone got to taste a wonderful variety. Also ordered an excellent bottle of wine. Our waitress timed the arrival of our food perfectly, so we were not overwhelmed with all the food at once. It was a great dining experience.
We loved dining here. Excellent wine list, great menu choices and excellent service. Our waitress was Audrey and she was friendly and professional and recommended a wonderful Spanish wine choice. My husband loved the salmon and I ordered the MTR burger which was incredible. For dessert we enjoyed key lime pie . We will most definitely return soon.
First time there for our Wedding Anniversary will not go back. Waitress at first was very on point but as the evening progressed she was rarely seen. Food was good but don’t expect a lot of it. Expensive for what you get. Sticking to my all time favorite restaurant in St. Augustine “Collage”.
St Augustine has numeros restaurants and several really fine dining establishments. All four of us agreed that all of our meals were excellent, best in current memory. Michael’s has gone to top of our list, can’t wait to share with our ever stream of visitors.
