The food at Michael's Tasting Room is superb! The entree menu is rather small, but it doesn't seem that a restaurant needs a large menu to offer meals that you will remember. I started with Tuna Cruda, rare seared ahi tuna on house chips with avocado puree. Just writing this review makes me want to go back to be able to eat these morsels again! There was a zippy little heat to them, one of the tastiest things I have had in a long time. Each one was just the right size to pop into your mouth. Hubby started with Sautéed Shrimp Al Ajillo. He said it was delish. It must have been, because it disappeared pretty quickly! From there we moved on to Sea Scallops for me, which were seared just the right amount, and Pork Flat Iron Steak for him. We don't know why the waiter gave Hubby a knife, because the meat just fell apart, it was cooked to such perfection. As an added bonus, the meals come with grilled seasonal vegetables. I have no idea what the vegetables were that we ate, but they were very tasty. You cannot get a mixed drink at Michael's, but their wine list is extensive, and they have a good beer selection as well. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing. This was one of the best dining experiences we have had since moving to St. Augustine half a year ago.

We have been dining at the Tasting Room for years although it has been almost a year since we’ve dined there. We were all ready for paella only to arrive and realize the menu had changed from traditional spanish flare with a twist to a more Americanized influence. The tapas were delicious but we opted out of having a full dinner.
The atmosphere & service were superb!!

We had an excellent meal at Michael’s. High end dishes, professional service , romantic atmosphere and fun.
We were so happy a local recommended this to us traveling thru town. We will be back!

Outstanding, creative food selections and presentation. I was disappointed in wine selection by the glass in view of large selection of wine by the bottle. I ordered a Malbec but was served the house red wine. Bathroom doors were somewhat difficult to open especially for a elderly or person with disabilities. Otherwise a very nice way to spend an evening at dinner.

We tried their new Sunday brunch and everything we had was amazing! The burrata salad, fried egg & goat cheese take on an eggs benedict and the chicken & waffles were so delicious. We will definitely be going back very soon.

Delicious food and great presentation. It’s got an intimate ambience, but not stuffy, and I love that the tables aren’t right on top of each other. It’s a bit expensive, but worth it.

Food was amazing! Grilled Oysters were amazing, salmon and Pork had great flavor and wine was perfectly paired. Atmosphere was perfect for date night.

Am I too critical?

It was a cold night in St Augustine. so, the interior dining room was the only one that could be used. about 10 tables for four that were mostly used by couples. bare wood floors and tables...somewhat minimalist. the wine list is extensive and, naturally, expensive. a St Jean chardonnay was $12 a glass...we had a few. two of us decided on a few small plates. a burrata salad had a good slice of burrata, but not much else for $12. vegetable empanadas had a crust that was way too thick. an octopus appetizer was very good but there wasn't much of it. Moorish meatballs could have been very good as they were tasty, but were way overcooked. Service by two waitresses was good except they were sometimes absent delivering dirty dishes to an outside place (kitchen?).

We get to the restaurant early, and are checked-in in a timely way. However, when we are brought to our table, NOTHING has been set up. We would have been happy to wait a few minutes so that the table was properly set.
We order wine and an oyster small plate to start. The wine service was fine, but the oysters took over 15 minutes to get there (our waitress DID apologize). HOWEVER. . . NO small oyster forks (we used the salad forks), and then the waitress DID NOT CHANGE OUT the salad forks that we used for the oysters-- even though we put them to the side of our table as a "hint."
The Caesar salad wedge looked better than it tasted. Kind of strange. . . the lettuce was actually kind of hard and tasted like cardboard.
The "Tomato"-Mozzarella salad had two small cherry tomatoes. . . each cut in half (!!!!!!!) Why call it a tomato salad when there are no tomatoes???
How many times did I have to asked to have our water glasses refilled. . . . one dude came by to give me a steak knife to cut my salad wedge, and never returned after we ask for water. Our waitress (who was a nice person). . . . forgot the water for over 10 minutes. Why does this restaurant not employ someone to do bread and water???
The entrees (a chicken dish and a scallop dish) had the SAME sauce. . . . a kind of overpowering (I think it was ) curry sauce that could have stripped rust off of steel.
The chicken was just OK. . . . the scallops must have been communing with the salad wedge. . . no taste at all.

If this is supposed to be an upscale restaurant, it has more upscaling to do. If you read the reviews, they are kind of bipolar (maybe that is the problem with the chefs). Do yourself a favor... assume you are going to be on the wrong side of the pole, and go to a different venue. You can thank me later.
