We moved to Santa Monica from Washington, DC in 2017. Michael's has become our favorite restaurant in Santa Monica for a truly enchanted evening. Three thumbs up all around!!

Michaels has changed the menu since we were there last, towards a more hip tasters-type menu, but we kind of miss the old one. Service is always excellent. We were disappointed to not be seated in the garden, we were in the raised area above it which is not as nice.

It took the wait staff a while to notice that we had been seated (plus I suppose we looked like tourists), but once they did the service was very good. Food was exceptional, although I'm not sure why it took 40 minutes to grill a couple of steaks (waiter warned us ahead of time). The bread was so amazing I asked for a box to take the uneaten slices home. You should sell your bread in the lobby - I would buy it regularly! Overall, a very pleasant dining experience.

Michael's has a new young chef and a new small plates menu. There are many dishes
to choose from in all categories of food. The concept is to share with your dining
companions. The food was excellent. We sat in the garden, but there are many more
tables than in the past so quite noisy, but everyone seemed happy to be there.

The menu is very limited. While it works ok for the apps and mains, the two desserts on offer were pretty terrible.

I love the setting and would go back if the menu got more attention.

Michael's is a hidden gem. My godparents surprised me with a visit, and I had to scramble to find somewhere great for us to eat. They're total foodies, so the place had to be good. Michael's was perfect. The food was impeccable - we ate an array of small plates constructed of local produce, all of which were delicious. The atmosphere was also wonderful. We ate in the back garden area, which was filled with lush greenery, and quite spacious. We never once felt as though other diners were impinging on our space or meal. The wine was great, as was the dessert, and of course the food was excellent.

The only downside was that they had run out of a couple dishes, including the fresh greens salad, which seemed like a sort of silly thing to run out of. We asked them to figure out another greens dish for us and they eventually brought out a chicory and apple salad with a creamy dressing, which was very nice. Our waiter was professional and answered all our questions for us.

This is a great spot, especially for parents visiting from out of town, anniversaries or special meals. The food is impeccable, and the space is gorgeous. The prices are high, but it's 100% worth the price.

Food wise, it was such a disappointment. I was informed that they had had a power outage that afternoon which could’ve affected some of The mediocre food that was about to come. There were some things we had which were excellent, the sweet curried lentils with Sunchoke chips, The cavatelli with wild mushrooms & English peas.
The pork collar was terrible… I sent it back. It was very tough, somewhat fatty, and flavorless. They got me the Seabass instead. It was prepared wonderfully, very crunchy on the top, but it was very fishy. I think they should’ve comped the entrée due to how bad The pork was… But they didn’t. Michael’s, in the past, always had the reputation of being a Culinary Landmark. Our experience there was too inconsistent to ever give it such a distinction. I love the ambience of the back patio with all the greenery, but the food quality will always prevent me from coming back.
