What Insiders Are Saying
Michael's is a Santa Monica dinner classic that's recently been brought up to date.
Great Valentines Day dinner with an exceptional staff!
We had a terrific night having dinner at Michael's. It is the most beautiful outdoor space I have been to in LA. The service was impeccable, as our waiter was super attentive, recommended delicious wines that paired well with our food, and the food came coursed out to enjoy each dish as it was intended. The food was unique, fresh, and crave worthy. One of the best things about the night, is that there was cool rock music playing in the bar that made the elegant space feel comfy & not stuffy whatsoever. I can't wait to go back!
Beautiful Venue, great for a date or special event.
Beautiful space, excellent service & a solid variety of tapas style dishes
The food was cooked & tasted perfectly. I wish the food portions are bigger esp the appetizers. The place is cozy & nice. The GM & waiter, AJ were amazing. It was a good dinner.
Michael's has always beenA charming, beautiful and comfortable place to dine. The food is creative and interesting.
What a great find. It's such a beautiful place. We will be back very soon.
Attended Michael's in Santa Monica and I was completely amazed on how great the food/customer service was. The owner came over and introduced himself. I thought that was a game-changing moment.
Michael's in Santa Monica has a lot of healthy options and can be a great spot for vegans/vegetarians.
This place is highly recommended in Santa Monica.
The restaurant is definitely worth coming back to a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time.
Great neighborhood place. One would never guess from outside that it has an amazing huge patio. Very pleasant atmosphere and good Cali French cuisine. All items were delicious. We will be back.
Food came before drinks were served. Unorganized. New sharing menu not consistent with nyc. If you think nyc experience, do not bother.
Delicious food. Interesting dishes. Comfortable, casual vibe. A nice place to have a relaxed dinner.
Setting is great, but we reserved not knowing Miles Thompson had left. A bummer, he's such a wonderful chef!!! Hence my review with less stars for the food as we expected so much more.
The server Nathaniel was beyond exceptional. The barkeep had a problem with my drink, and, on top of everything else, Nathaniel was on top of it.
The food was different and quite tasty. The restaurant was gorgeous. A perfect birthday celebration for my wife.
I love the ambiance of Michael's ..the service is great....the drinks...ok....but the menu....It desperately needs to be updated, more of a selection especially for those you only eat fish or veggies and the serving size! Seriously..for $22.00 my meal was so small it's was a barely an appetizer. Speaking of which..they also need to have more appetizers and dessert selections on the menu.
Michaels is a great location, long standing restaurant and the place should be hopping. We went to another restaurant for drinks and more dessert (it was my birthday) and that place was jamming!
I would hate to Michael's close cause they can't get with the times.
Portion sizes for the prices was not worth dinning here. I walked out unsatisfied and hungry. Very disappointed. Would not recommend this place.
I have lived on the Westside for thirty years and never knew this place existed, but found it on Jonathan Gold's list of 101 restaurants. It's a hidden gem, even though it's very close to Third Street Promenade. Expensive but fantastic cuisine served "small plates" style. The patio dining was beautiful, romantic and warm enough during a fairly cold January evening. Waiter was very attentive and knowledgable about the food and the wine, able to recite details about the wine that was chosen. Nice eclectic alt rock music playing in the BG, not too loud. Everything was really perfect! Would recommend it to anybody, though probably not a great place for families with young kids.
Wonderful experience and the food was delicious!
The food is a wonderful flavour experience! The staff know just the perfect wine pairing for each course! Awesome menu that are unique to Michael's! You won't taste anything like it anywhere else!
We went to Michael's for New Year Eve. Food was decent but didn't blow me away. It was a 5-course meal, two meals for each course which was a lot of food for 2 people. Course 1-4 came in no particular order (for example, we received hummus with fava beans - labelled as course 2 - before we received the bread or olives - labelled as course 1) all four courses came at us all at once and I'm afraid some of the hot plates became cold before we could try it out. The most disappointing was the butternut squash ravioli which had the consistency of baby food inside and it was quite unappealing. Cute little place, nice ambience and the service was good - just not sure if I'd go back.
New Years Eve was incredible. Great food and service- seamless presentation.
Highly recommend for any occasion.
A wonderful evening at a a wondrous restaurant - New Year’s Eve at Michael’s in Santa Monica, one of our favorites for over thirty years now. Over that time, we have yet to have a bad dish or “off” service. One of the finest in Los Angeles.
One of the most beautiful New Years Eve dinners I have ever had. Lovely ambiance. The course selection was well crafted. I am allergic to nuts and the staff accommodated my annoying allergy with such elegance.
Thank you for helping us ring in our New Year.
Fantastic service and food
Team was understaffed. Took a while to get menus.
Value was not there. The $8 bread was cold and wasn’t worth the price. The cheesecake dessert was gross. Just two examples.
I’ve been here before and loved it, but the exorbitant cost should come with excellent service and impeccable food.
I understand Michael's recently hired a new chef. Well done! He came out of the kitchen and took our table of seven through the menu, we followed his advice, and had the best meal since Flocons de Sel. The duck was not dry, which seems like simple praise but it isn't. Thank you.
Faded from its former glory. Service was very nice but the food was nothing special, despite the prices
Ambiance was lovely for a romantic dinner. Food was splendid. Great use of seasonings and sauces. Not enough food for my liking, but over all a fantastic dining experience for those looking for. new plans to try.
Amazing ambiance, food, and service. Top notch
The sommelier was a bit full of his himself.
The outdoor dinning was beautiful. The food and service where perfect.
The assistant manager was rude and arrogant. She admonished me for my loud voice. My friends felt very uncomfortable and requested we leave. We stayed, but it put a black mark on what was to be a celebration dinner.
As an outdoor dinning area, with a high level background noise, sitting at table for 8, it’s hard to hear each other, especially for guests whose english is a second language.
We purchased the most expensive wines, and dishes, tipped generously, and where still treated rudely repeatedly by the assistance manager. Her glares and very rude insincere remarks at departure where uncalled for. . While we are from Portland , our guests were all from Sana’a Monica and frequent guests.
The branzino in the courtyard out back.
We LOVED the restaurant! The menu was, at first, a little 'awkward' for us as my husband, in particular, is not good at small plates and unusually tastes. BUT, he was an immediate convert to this menu. Everything we had was simply OUTSTANDING!! The waitress was lovely; Michael came over to meet us which was fun. Finally, there were very interesting people sitting around us. All in all is was a perfect evening.
Birthday party of 4 from out of town.
Menu was small and eclectic but we all found items to our taste. Complimentary desserts were festive and tasty.
The service was spot on and the garden setting was very romantic and elegant. In my option, I thought the food was marginal and very overpriced for what you were serviced.
very nice ! Everyone so nice. Love the open Patio and food was very good !
The shred portions were small and some (for instance, the prawns ) were very disappointing It was severely overpriced for the potion size, moderately overpriced for the quality.
Food was delicious. We had one main server but all servers were attentive to our needs. We were sat in the outside part of the restaurant which was perfect. Lovely lighting.
Went kind of on a whim over Thanksgiving weekend. Wasn't too crowded which I loved. Ragu gnudi I ordered was incredible, as well as the branzino (I never order seafood at restaurants and this was good). Staff was very friendly
I really enjoyed it. Surprised I got a last minute res. Great sharing options and very filling when we shared. nice cocktail. best waiter of my year. I think his name was Mark. Kudos mark.
