Michaels never disappoints. Great food and great service.
Decidedly mediocre food for a high price. It was a Tuesday evening so there was little atmosphere. Keep walking past the alley. There are much better choices around King Street.
Food was very fresh and tasty. Service was excellent.
We used open table and got the best seat in the house. Food was fantastic and service was great. Will come here again next time I’m in Charleston.
The food and service was amazing. This is a smaller restaurant which makes it nice.
We took my twins there to celebrate their 21st and we were the only customers when we got there at 7pm!!! Took a while to get someone to seat us. Food was delicious but pricey for the portion sizes. $9 for very small desserts and no birthday discount offered.
Excellent service and food in a beautiful, quiet setting.
Great service and ambiance. Food was only ok. But the overall experience was great!
Visit was more than expected. Arrived early, 5:30, we were first for the night . Little worried, but more people arrived shortly and was a nice crowd. Food was fantastic. One of the best fillets I've ever had. Wife's fish was really good. Service was excellent. Will return !
Loved the place
It was great!
The atmosphere was wonderful. I expected to see Sinatra and the boys come down the steps. The food was first rate and the service was outstanding (attentive, but not intrusive). A first rate place with character and class.
Food was outstanding. Our waiter was incredibly nice and attentive without hovering. Would 100% recommend and will definitely be back.
We were early for our 7 p.m. reservation and hostess showed us to the adjoining bar where we had great cocktails. Hostess came back at 7 to escort us to our table. It was one of those horseshoe banquets for 6 or 8 and we we had it all to ourselves. Our waiter Thomas was polite, helpful and not intrusive. My wife's filet and my Wagyu skirt steak with frites were cooked to perfection. Frites fried in duck fat were to die for. Worth the price. Espresso was hot and a perfect brew. We'll be back.
Great food! Great service! Great experience!
Awesome food and place
Best steak I’ve had in years
The server was the best serve I’ve ever had! The food was amazing and the sides are truly shareable sides! So much food and even took food home!
We dined at Michaels two years ago and it was phenomenal. We dined again this past Friday night and it was not good at all. It took almost 2 hours for us to get our meal and the food was very average for the price!!! Will not be back.
We had been waiting to try Michaels for a while. We went early so not many people there. Service was slow. Had a filet and thought it was a little charred. Thought it was expensive for what we got
Very nice place. Not so fancy that we felt formal and stuffy but also upscale enough to know it was a special night.
Michael's on the Alley is par-excellence insofar as ambiance. Sublime staff. Wonderful wine list, and excellent fare. Highly recommended.
They charge Halls and Oak prices, but come up short on service. For those prices I expect a higher level of service. Food was really good, but in the end it needs to be a great experience overall.
It was Valentine's Day and I should have lowered my expectations due to the influx of customers most restaurants experience. Michael's Had a special that was not published until late making a reservation change more difficult. Neither my wife nor I found the special appetising and they were accommodating enough to take our order from the regular menu. I had the lamb. The sauce was good the meat was tough. My wife's salmon was good. We shared the flourless chocolate cake. If you order that share it. The dessert is very rich and we loved it. Our server was attentive and the best part of our evening.
Amazing dinner here, service was impeccable and they went ABOVE & beyond.
Best place for aged steaks!
The service was horrible. It took the waitress over 15 minutes ti come to our table. Once she took our order, it was another 45 minutes before our food came out. The waitress kept disappearing to the bar area out. The food was cooked perfectly. The manager did come over and apologize, once they brought the food out. I doubt we would ever come back here again. It is not worth it
We went to Michael's on the Alley for a birthday dinner. We were a party of six. We are in our late 20s and it seems like our waiter decided we would not be good tippers. He checked on all his other tables periodically and would walk right past us. He told us our food would be out shortly and then it took an additional 30 minutes with no updates. We also told him it was our friends' bday and he did not bring us the birthday treat that he had served his other table when we first walked in. He also did not bring us bread like he did all of his other tables. We had very poor service from that waiter but the restaurant was awesome overall. They should be sure to train their staff not to be ageist.
One small issue that was handled with outstanding service!
Place was huge and only 2 tables occupied. No vibe in the place . Food was just ok. Service was amateurish and the price of the meal was over the top expensive
Great date night spot, but be prepared to spend a lot of money (like at any steak house), everything was a la carry.
Not sure why this place doesn’t have a higher rating. The menu is great as was the food. Great atmosphere.
Michael’s is the best steakhouse in Charleston. The chef KNOWS how to cook a good piece of beef.
The wine list is more than adequate as well.
My mother & I celebrate our birthdays every year during restaurant week. Atmosphere, service, were perfect. Tuna was great! Topped it off with coffe & dessert for a memerable evenings
The food is absolutely outstanding and the service was impeccable. Took my dad out for his birthday and we'd never had a night like that. I will definitely be going again, it's so worth the price and drive!
Great location and housed in a fascinating building. Food was good as was service.
The food and service were absolutely incredible! The filet mignon was tender, seasoned and cooked perfectly. The restaurant ambiance is very classy, yet comfortable, and I felt pampered by the staff.
We went during restaurant week and were skeptical. We quit doing this “week” due to small portions and forced menu years ago, but decided to try again.
Michael’s was the restaurant to go to to change our minds!
Delicious she crab soup and the 8 oz filet was to die for!
Dessert was delicious, also.
Really enjoyed our expereience!
Will be back!
My friends treated me to a birthday dinner Tuesday night. We all enjoyed the streak on the Restaurant Week menu which included she crab soup for two of us and Ceaser Salad for the other. We all got the white chocolate strawberry mousse dessert and mine came with a lite birthday candle! The servers were attentive and efficient with great smiles they shared freely. We all agreed the steaks were the best we had ever eaten and prepared as we had requested. We hope to make Michael’s on the Alley a place to visit again soon!! Helen Lukow-Williams
Food was saltier than anything and although I asked for medium, steak was almost rare. However I liked the high ceilings and ambiance.
