Every single thing about our experience here was beyond amazing. The food, the atmosphere and our server Etienne was spectacular. The lamb was amazing, the rib eye was fantastic. Do yourself a favor and get the truffle mac and cheese and mushrooms. The drinks were well crafted as well. If I come back to Toronto, I will absolutely dine here again.
Christian/Kristian was an amazing server. Very knowledgeable about the menu, as well as the surrounding area. He is very kind and pleasant and made for a phenomenal experience. We came for a birthday and we were not disappointed. This restaurant & our server went above and beyond and we were extremely satisfied. 100% recommend!
Exceptional service and very attentive. Truly a wonderful experience to have been able to dine at Michael's.
Just... awesome - thank you Peter and Michael for meal and Scotch sensation
Fantastic! Sommelier Steven was amazing, directed the wine selections perfectly!
Great experience overall! Enjoyed the services in particular.
Expensive beyond belief. No value for money spent.
Was charged $40 for water. Was charged cheap wine at 3/4 times retail cost. Food was very disappointing. Restaurant has acoustic issues and extremely loud.
All smoke, no roast.
Would not recommend under any circumstance.
What a great experience at Michael's on Simcoe!
We have enjoyed the tasty meals. The meat is exceptional. The atmosphere of the restaurant makes it a great place to enjoy a new experience whether you are in couple or there for a business meeting.
I definitely recommend the restaurant!
I want to be precise with my comments for you:
I had a very nice evening. Service was impeccable, there was a great selection of wines. Steaks were also quite good but not excellent. I was introduced to a great pasta (a sample from it was given to me and my company and I still dream about it). Your fries and caesar salad must be improved considerably.
Certainly, I am not the criteria for food and people are very different in their tastes.
Loved it. Great discovery for a local. Glamorous enough that you feel like you’ve been away without having to travel. Service was beyond 5 star. Went out of their way to ensure we got the very best in wine and steak, in the world. Expensive! Worth it. Not my usual kinda place. A bit too glam. But ended up being the perfect escape night. No attitude. Kindness, passion.
Great dinner, excellent service.
I love everything we had at this restaurant - from the drinks, to the main course and dessert. We both had the raspberry mojito. After finishing one I had to order a few more
Horrible service. We were a group of 4 seated at 7:40pm. Server didn’t take dinner order until 9pm. Appetizers served at 10pm, followed by dinner plates at 11pm! We passed on dessert and asked for the bill, but server didn’t come to take payment until nearly midnight! Longest drawn out dinner ever. Food is expensive. Would not recommend.
We had the best experience at Michaels on simcoe. The food was absolutely amazing accompanied by a great atmosphere and a friendly knowledgeable staff. We will definitely be back!
Wonderful meal and exceptional service. Would absolutely recommend.
Our reservation request through OpenTable was met perfectly. We had an amazing night!
Our server was excellent. The food was delicious. The ambiance was perfect.
Thank you so much. We will be back again.
Excellent meal, exceptional service.
The atmosphere was very nice.
Our server (Christian) was excellent. Extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. Service was quick and courteous. Would definitely go there again.
Too expensive and not enough vegan choices. Portions ok. Would try Elephant and Castle or another restaurant next time going to a show around King and Simcoe
I love this restaurant for both the food and the service. Very good service but not snooty. Steak is excellent and both dining room side and bar side are nice areas for dining.
The service and food was amazing we sat at table #71. I feel bad that we forgot our waiters name as our he was very patience and caring as we both had food allergies and issues. He took very good care at making sure we got exactly what we needed and more. We shared a shrimp cocktail and salad before our meal, wonderful, the main course steaks were amazing and cut like butter, veggies yummy. Cant wait to go again.
We could't finish all our dinner and I love that they didn't bring our packed up leftovers to the table was waiting at the door with the hostess when we left. The washrooms are an experience all on their own and that it something you will want to find our on your own.
Thank you for making my birthday dinner a wonderful experience and great evening!
The service staff and sommelier were open and thoughtful helping us have an excellent meal while keeping to a manageable price point.
Fabulous food perfectly prepared and exceptional service. I had the scallops and my wife had the striploin PEI grass fed steak...both were excellent !
Simply fantastic , service was phenomenal, dry aged sirloin was beyond words , maybe some bourbons were a tad over priced , but all in all ‘wonderful ‘
Great all-round dining experience. I would certainly recommend Michael’s on Simcoe to anyone looking for fine meal.
For some years, visiting fine restaurants has been a regular part of my working life. Steak houses especially, since they're perfectly set up for business meetings: good service, good wine list, good food, competent bar, privacy, low noise levels.
All that being said, I cannot remember having had a better experience anywhere in North America than at Michael's. The room is warmer than it looks in the photographs. The service from both waiter and sommelier was consistently excellent (along with nice little touches: if you have something put in a box to go, they keep it safely and make sure they hand it to you as you leave).
But the meat. The meat! A menu containing wet aged, dry aged steaks; domestic and Japanese Waygu ... we shared a dry-aged steak which was marbled to perfection, and a 6oz Japanese Waygu which seemed to be from some other (even more delicious) animal altogether. Much of the meat is aging in a cooler right by the kitchen, you can take a peek.
Sides were excellent quality: rich and carefully prepared.
The red wine we ordered (a Brunello) came to the table cool, just as it should. No room temperature wine here!
And speaking of drinks, an exceptional list of whiskies (of all nationalities) which we enjoyed along with a restrained, carefully put together cheese plate.
Altogether exceptional, and a pleasure to write a review of this kind.
Thank you for the extra Birthday gift for my husband. That was unexpected. Thanks again
Best food and service in Toronto
Our server was terrible... inattentive.. he didn't deserve a tip at all .. but one was still given ...
I had to ask who was our server multiple times even though he had walked by our table multiple times ...
Luckily ... the meal made up for it ...
It has been a nice experience trying the Michael service and food. We really enjoyed the night there. We were there to celebrate the birthday. The service has been perfect and Peter really took care of us. We would definitely go back to try different steaks.
The food and service are excellent. Great choice of steaks. I could easily talk to my wife without loud noises or loud music.
Just the right amount of background music.
Good experience. Service was excellent ( a french guy with a lot of class). There is a lot of details, some of them useless (like 1000 USD knifes manufactured in Japan) to cut a beef of japanese meat already prepared and cut .... But food quality is there ! Deserts card is poor.
I wasn’t sure about this Michael’s, as I had never heard of it and easily got a reservation. Best dining experience I had in Toronto on this trip. I told everyone at my conference to go there. Cocktails, apps, and steaks were at another level of excellence.
We took a spacious booth in the bar area, they had a very skilled fellow singing and playing guitar. (Our choice over a smaller table in the dinning room). He was background music, not the star of the show... but if you did pay attention his singing was way above average, clearly he was professional and it improved our experience. A lovely amuse bouche, was the first time my wife or I had ever actually enjoyed artichoke. An excellent “by the glass” menu that allowed us perfect choices to match the abundant appetizer options we struggled to choose from. We ended up with 3, including the seafood platter... which felt Royal. There was also a feature that we had to try once Christian described the Sturgeon ceviche with caviar.
Our mains showed up, very well timed, they followed our lead of a casual date and spaced it out very well. Fish of the day was Pacific Cod, pan seared. Prepared so well, I was jealous, never have I got the cook so perfect myself. The starch that it came with was so unique we had to ask what it was... ya, um it was potato.. clearly i need to work on my potato preparation as well. The other main was selected from a large selection of premium beefs including Wagu’s but we chose a true Japanese Kobe Ribeye. Ordered it “how the Chef feels it should be prepared” and just as I would do a true Kobe it came a smidge over Rare. Sides of Cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts. Excellent and generous, easily shared, with leftovers. Likely our server mentioned to his manager that we had ordered half the menu and they sent over some free drinks. A very nice Port and an espresso Martini, we were very appreciative as they were great. Americano’s and a deconstructed Lemon tart saw our wonderful night come to an end. I have never spent as much time on a review as I have on this one and the fact is I have provided 5 stars before but never has a night earned them as deeply as this night has.I have more to say but I am out of characters so I’ll simply say: “Go”
Excellent from start to finish.
Our à la carte dishes (5 in total) were fantastic, and two amuse bouches were equally as enjoyable. I had the 6 oz A5 Kobe tenderloin, which allowed me to choose between different Japanese knives from an ornate box. I've had wagyu beef, including Japanese wagyu previously, but this was different. Maybe is was the "Kobe" designation or just the A5 rating, but it's worth the extra money. Poking it with a fork gave the consistency of jello or seared foie gras. Very tender, juicy and the taste was beyond comparison.
The tuna tartar and creme brûlée was great too. My wife had a salad to start (I know, but it's too costly to divorce her now) which she enjoyed. She also mentioned that her steak was exceptional.
Service is what you'd expect from a restaurant with lofty reviews. No complaints here.
Wine list is vast, and bartender was able to make a special drink based on my wife's preferences.
Atmosphere was nice and quiet.
Final bill was ~$830, including my $360 steak, wine and a tip.
We will return next time we're in Toronto.
Terrific experience, food and service. Love the Prince Edward Island Beef options! Tasty!
My husband and I had a delicious meal here last weekend. We had the chopped salad, chateaubriand for 2 and the sea salt fries. Great wine selection and desserts to choose from as well. The steak was extremely tender and flavorful. I will definitely go back the next time I am in Toronto!
