Michael's On East Ratings and Reviews
From the moment we sat down and were greeted by Kimberly, to the very last sip and bite, everything was FABULOUS. The classic martini was perfect and Michael's garden martini might be my favorite new drink. The calamari appetizer was fabulous with three different dipping sauces and the lobster pot ... died and went to heaven. And even though we were too full, dessert was mandatory due to the birthday celebration. A+ memorable wonderful night out. And Kimberly was the perfect server ... helpful, informative, fun, invested.
“Wow” describes it all- food, decor, service. Entire evening was a wonderful experience from the time we gave the car to the valet to the time we picked it up. Server AJ was attentive and friendly, very professional without being overbearing. Will absolutely return!
The atmosphere, wine list and service are all top shelf. The menu was beautiful for the finest of carnivores! Sadly there was not one vegetarian/vegan offering to be found. And although our attentive, friendly helpful waiter did a wonderful job in suggesting an entree, my meal was not prepared and presented as described. So, three out of four .. 75%. Sadly, I will not return.
It was a beautiful space in the backside of a strip mall. (Not what we expected.) The food was excellent. I had the filet mignon with a Gorgonzola crust and the Mac and cheese. My husband had the scallops. Both dishes were delicious. We also had the Chocolate black out cake. It was rich and delicious. The wine menu was great. The beer menu was not very exciting. We both opted for cocktails. Service was excellent.
We had dinner on Michaels on Friday night. We had eaten there several other times, but not on a Friday night. The lobster pot was ordered by three of us and was exceptional! This was a surprise, and a very great one, at that.
The lobster is served in the shell or already shelled for you (we all chose the shelled version). In addition, mussels and clams steamed perfectly came with the meal. The red skin potatoes and corn on the cob were additional sides that were included. All of it was fabulous!
One of us ordered the complete three course meal. This month that meal comes from South Africa. Since two of us had just returned from Southern Africa, we can vouch for the authenticity of the dishes that were selected to be included. From the soup to the KingClip to the dessert, the meal reflected the best of South African cuisine. Delicious!
We have been to Micheals several times and always enjoy it although found it to be a bit pricey this time.
Atmosphere is superb and there was a wonderful piano player singer in the lounge/ bar area.
We had a wonderful server by the name of Kristy who could not do enough for us. We celebrated my husbands birthday and it was just perfect.
Will definitely try it again this winter.
We brought some friends who had never been and enjoyed our visit. My wife and I had the Epicurean Adventure, the theme of which changes monthly. This one was New Orleans, and it was very nicely done, including the South African dry Chenin Blanc wine pairing. Stuffed oyster appetizer was tasty but more stuffing than oysters. Diver scallop entree was first class. Our friends said they enjoyed the steak and swordfish that they had, as well as their wine choices. This place always has a few very minor glitches that keep it from being perfect, but overall it’s still one of the best in the area, as it has been for decades. They try very hard to make you happy and pretty much always succeed.
Michael's is always a wonderful experience. This time we went for lunch instead of dinner and it was just as good. Their wines are very pricey ($22 for a 6 oz glass of nothing special) but there are lots of choices if you aren't too price sensitive. It's just me...and I know about service in the U.S....but I wish the waiters wouldn't take plates before everyone at the table has finished eating and I don't like to be asked how it's going frequently. That is why I gave a 3 star for service, but I imagine other people like that. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Sarasota and we will certainly go back.
Michael’s on East may seem a bit pricy but, if you join the rewards club here you will be surprised how quickly you can get a reward back.
The wine list is excellent as well as extensive.
Try the Calamari appetizer or the beet salad to start. There are many menu options from the monthly chefs tasting to creative fish and meat dishes.
The steaks are all Prime, aged and delicious. Do not forget to add a side of potato croquettes!
A weeknight is much quieter than the weekend when the bar noise can be a bit loud.
Although I can afford to have lunch at Michael's, I still have trouble dropping $55 for lunch with nothing but two entrees - no drinks and just plain water. I'm not comfortable in a place like this. Rather pretentious, although I know it has a fine reputation in Sarasota. We've lived in Sarasota for many years and thought we'd give Michael's a try. We've had two lunches there but that's enough. We'll leave it for others who don't mind dropping the big bucks at a place like this.
Outstanding in all respects. Our server was cheerful, professional and helpful with recommendations. The food is beautifully presented and delicious. Escargot with lobster and goat cheese crostini as an appetizer was amazing. Both the beef and veal dishes were prepared as ordered and just melted in your mouth. We will be back.
Chef Jamil is outstanding! The New Orleans Epicurean Adventure menu this month is a great hit. Three types of fried oysters were creative and delicious. And that was just the first course. Grilled scallops were enriched by a snappy sauce and sides. And, of course, the pecan tart was indeed the piece de resistance. I'm tempted to go again and try the other choices.
Michael's on East does not disappoint. I wanted a quiet elegant atmosphere to have lunch with friends to thank them for their generously during Hurricane Irma. The service was perfect as was the food. I had the Chimichurri Tenderloin ordered rare. It was seasoned perfectly and the meat very tender. My friends both had the BBQ Shrimp and Grits and they couldn't stop raving. We ended with dessert and coffee. We spent about 2 hours chatting, eating and enjoying each other's company without having to strain to hear or get bumped by a passer by.
