It had been a few years since my last visit to Michael’s. Even then, I had only been for lunch. The service remains professional and impeccable. We ordered 3 small plates for the four of us to share. The brussel sprouts were delicious. The butternut squash fries were delectable. But the Korean beef tacos stole the appetizer show.
The main courses also did not disappoint. Two in our party ordered the Salmon - both exclaimed at the same that it was the best salmon they had ever had. I had the New York strip. Cooked to perfection on the inside with a crispy outside. Loved it. Thank you Michael’s for being ... well... Michael’s.
Food, service, ambiance were all terrific. The thing that really set this restaurant apart is how they handled a situation that could have made this a bad experience. In our party of 4, two of the steaks arrived over cooked. That happens. What happened next was really a nice touch. Of course, everyone was apologetic and would make it right. And right they did! First, since two of us were eating, the waiter delivered two cups of soup to those who were having their steaks replaced. So everyone had something to eat. Next, we wondered what would happen to the side dishes that were also whisked away when the steaks returned to the kitchen. Moments later, two perfectly prepared steaks appeared and two fresh side dishes were placed on the table. A very nice touch. I will return to this restaurant and will tell anyone who will listen how a restaurant can take a negative situation and turn it into a wonderful customer experience.
I celebrated my 60th birthday and was totally surprised by two things. First I was greeted by a gentleman who I never met and who was not a restaurant owner or employee who gave me six crisp New $2.00 bills along with a silver dollar coin wished me a happy 60th birthday and left without saying who he was.Second my boyfriend of many years proposed to me and presented me with a gorgeous diamond ring. Now as for the restaurant...I could not have picked a better place for such an event. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and right on target. Loved the experience. Definitely recommend it to anyone who loves an excellent dining experience.
Just because we booked thru Open Table should not mean we are given last table in back of 3 rooms with table of 16 men celebrating at lunch in front of us -- when many other tables available. We asked to move as soon as we saw the situation and they found Table near service stand. The large party dominated the room which meant service was "catch as catch can!" I have been to Michael's before and had much better service then.
Go to Michael's for the food, but be prepared for the wait.
The menu is eclectic and every dish we had was wonderful.
But the service was abysmal. We waited close to 15 minutes AFTER being seated before anyone came over to collect our drink orders.
The venue is gorgeous, but the noise level and jammed-packed tables make it very difficult to have a conversation unless you're sitting within inches of your fellow diners.

After being greeted at the door by both the hostess and management, my wife and I took a seat at the bar. We were promptly given menus and recommendations for cocktails. After a short wait, the cocktails were brought to us, beautifully presented and great tasting. The bartender and management were very helpful when it came to questions we had about the menu.
After that we were escorted by Jason, the restaurant manager, into the dining room, which is spacious but creates a romantic and cozy atmosphere.
There was a live tree above our table which added some leaves to the meal throughout the night,but overall, is hardly worth mentioning and actually provided a few good laughs.
Soon after we were seated, our server Joanna came to the table. She was well informed and passionate about the food she was selling. This helped us immensely when it came to navigating the menu. We were also visited by the Wine Director Mario, who after allowing me to look through the vast list of wines he has, made perfect suggestions for both my wife and I. As the evening progressed, we were checked on periodically by management and servers alike, which made my wife and I feel special. We decided to go with the small plate options and to try as much food as we could. Every new plate that came to the table was better then the last. The food was fresh and innovative but also very approachable. The Head Chef Kyung has done a wonderful job.
We didn't think after all that beautiful food that we could even look at the dessert menu, but I sure am glad that we did. The resident pastry chef, Mimi, makes all desserts fresh and by hand. Her passion for all things sweet was evident from the moment the dessert was placed on the table. The presentation of every dish was breathtaking.
Overall, my wife and I would highly recommend Michael's for any special occasion, or for just a nice dinner out.
We've enjoyed Michael's in Santa Monica for some decades and NY since it opened . This time, all was as expected --a lovely table with enough space around to speak quietly, quick service for the arrival and gracious welcome. The main courses took quite a while to arrive, so service was a bit slow. After the wait, my special salad of shrimps with quinoa and arugula was fine but not really so special. Scallops were great, and chicken paillard was terrific. The special octopus was delicious. We had a wonderful time, enjoyed the cookie plate with coffee, and naturally will return
Taste alright, but I have no idea about its positioning. Menu is not creative but prices are equivalent to some of the Michelin starred restaurants. There are good selection of comparable or better restaurants within a 300 meters radius. Can't find any justifications for going back. Restaurant was only 1/3 full but I couldn't understand why we had to be squeezed into tables at the same corner!
Exquisite food. Quite and good service. The decor is a bit 1980’s. But the carpet keeps the room quiet. Owner greeted us. Great place before theatre. Worth the walk from there. Not touristy. Wine at $19 a glass is pricey.
Our group with three far flung friends from summers at camp in the early '50s met for lunch allowing two husbands to join us. We arrived a bit early for our reservation and were greeted cordially and were accommodated with our request to be seated in the back room nearer the garden. Part of our agenda was to have time to catch up with each other and were not looking for a hurried meal so the leisurely ordering and service was perfect. Water glasses were not filled immediately but that was preferable for us rather than a hovering staff. All of our selections were thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed. We commented knowledgeably about the excellent art throughout the restaurant, even the restrooms. And, yes, a good time was had by all.
We booked this reservation hoping that the restaurant would be a great experience. We were very pleased with the location, the ambiance, the menu choices, the wine list, and the customer service. We ordered prosecco for a toast, a bottle of Caymus cabernet, the korean bbq tacos as an appetizer. As entrees we ordered the beet salad & the truffle pizza and the shrimp pasta. For dessert we had the chocolate pistachio opera & the pumpkin cheesecake. All very delicious! We recommend & would come back...
A reap off! Went there for a business breakfast. It appears that a $15 granola comes with nothing - just dry cereals. So when you order a classic granola with fruits and yogurt, they charge you for 2 additional sides at approx $10 a piece. You end up paying $35 for a parfait granola! When salmon eggs benedict cost approx $22 you really feel having been taken for a ride...
Michael's is one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan, and probably the best restaurant in Midtown West. By every measure it is beyond excellent. The host/hostess and owners make you feel like an old friend from the moment you enter. The food is simply stunning. Their young Chef is daring and inventive, adding shockingly tasty twists to classically cooked dishes. The decor and ambience are friendly and casual, with just enough formality that it feels special. The clientele consists of the Media & Entertainment elite, with celebrities in the mix literally every day. You just feel so good when you leave Michael's, as if you've been to a special event. Don't change a thing.
