Michael's opened in 1989 with much fanfare and continues to create seasonal dishes that live by Michael McCarty's ethos of the best ingredients thoughtfully prepared. Good food, great people, great party!!

I always love going to Michael's. Great service, good food and I always feel taken care of.
Always enjoy lunch at Michael's. The classic New York restaurant with a great atmosphere and excellent food. The staff, from the Manager on down, make you feel welcome and they are professional in their jobs. Always an enjoyable experience.
A who's who of media and marketing with a staff that knows everyone and makes everyone feel special and important.
stayed nearby and was looking for a nice place to eat. Michael's fit the bill. Great service and good choice of small and large plates. We shared the Mushroom Bisque, Korean tacos and the duck breast. Finished off with cheese plate and pumpkin cheesecake. Good ambiance.
On a crowded holiday night we enjoyed good food and good service. It was festive (loud) and we could barely conduct a conversation. Felt like we were yelling at each other.
Michael's is always a unique and great dining experience.
Perfect spot for a lunch with atmosphere. Still attracts an interesting crowd. Food excellent and innovative. The menus is never stale. Michael pays great court to all his guests.
Tourist trap ripoff - BEWARE!!! We live in NYC and invited family and unfortunately this is the type of restaurant that gives NYC a bad name. Waitstaff up-sells everything, inflate prices, etc. An example of their dishonesty "What do you want as your side with your entree - salad, fries, Brussels sprouts, etc?" Wait for your bill and each side is an additional $12+. Try to bring it up with the waitstaff or a manager and they could care less. STAY AWAY from this restaurant!!
Excellent food and wine for a night in the city. Great staff.
Great food in a cool space. We enjoyed our evening with outstanding service.
Dinner was a perfect fit for our evening plans. We arrived at 6:15 with the constraint of a Carnegie Hall performance at 8 PM, having indicated to the reception that we wished to be out by 7:40. The hostess and all the wait staff were well apprised of this, and pacing was just right, not rushed, yet crisp. The food (still our primary draw for dining here) was excellent -- we opted to share many small plates and side, plus a (mushroom) soup to start. Everything was `sharply` prepared, served piping hot, and while no single taste brought an 'Oh my God' moment, every dish had character that distinguished it from more pedestrian versions. The restaurant maintains its fresh vegetable-centric orientation, which is/was in keeping with its history, and with what we wanted to eat `pre-theatre.` We will be delighted to return, and indeed, to reorder many of our recent dishes, pending seasonal menu changes of course.
One of my favorite restaurants in the whole world! I have been going for the last 15 years constantly
Service was slow
It is a convenient, small restaurant. The menu is a bit short. The prices are a bit shocking. Impossible to get on the phone.
It’s always a party at michaels.
I'm a long time Michael's fan. And the cobb salad is one of NY's best. It's become somewhat "old school," but sometimes that's exactly what I need! And Michael's seldom disappoints.
We went here for a birthday dinner this weekend and we were so pleased! The service was phenomenal (without being stuffy or overbearing) and the restaurant struck just the right balance of elegant and relaxed. We will definitely return!
We come the NYC every year and 2018 was the first time that we tried Michaels. We wanted to come back a second time that year, but was unable too. This year we made sure to have dinner at Michael's our first night and will be going back to dinner tonight. We are in NYC for 8 days. We love this place!
Terrific experience, as always. Steve Millington is NYC’s ultimate host and always ensures a top dining experience. Food and service were exceptional.
This is a very attractive restaurant, with wonderful art, tables comfortably spaced, and with a muted sound level (no music), making it easy to converse and focus on the food. Not being busy when we arrived, our food was delivered within minutes of ordering. The lumped crab meat appetizer and main course scallops were very good as was the chocolate/coconut cake dessert.
That said, the major disappointment was the service. It was lackluster and inattentive. We had difficulty getting the attention of staff when we needed something. For a restaurant, especially a very pricey one, this was inexcusable.
I felt like I stepped back in time to the 1970s when I walked into Michael's. The crowd waiting to be seated at noon was incredibly old and the decor was like furniture out of my parent's basement when I was a kid. They waited until a few minutes after noon to actually sat everyone because the wait staff was still having a meeting in the back. While the food and service were good, there are just too many other restaurants in NYC with a nicer ambiance. Just a lot of loud old people screaming at each other and the managers also looked like they stepped out of a 1970s time warp with the way they dressed. Michael came over to say hello and while that was a nice touch, they could really use an update. The food was good and modern, but the old decor really drags it all down.
ALWAYS delicious and such a pretty room. Never disappointed. Ever.
Aged steak was tough and a poor quality cut. Quite disappointing.
Amazing restaurant! Food was terrific. Loved the margherita pizza. I will definitely be back!
Very enjoyable experience...attentive and lovely
Always a great venue for business dinner. Everything was fantastic. Thank you for a great dining experience.
We went there for lunch, my husband (total fan) myself and our daughter. It was superb, food, service, all great.
Great atmosphere and good food!
Nice ! Welcoming and good service - dishes on small side
If not a regular, don’t bother.
Everything was fantastic. Thank you for a great dining experience.
This place had great reviews. Very disappointing. Seated us next to a service stand even though there were many empty tables. The service was good, not great. The food was average.
Great breakfast all around
NO ONE attended to our party of 4 for an unreasonable period of time. That’s no greeting. no water, no menus. No acknowledgment whatsoever that we were paying guests sitting practically in the middle of waitstaff passing all around us. We never had a proper waiter, having had to enlist a manager to pay some kind of attention to us.
This was our first time here, and we were disappointed with our dinner experience. We had to wait too long for what seemed the sole waitress to take our order. We found the prices high for the portion size. We also found the menu limited in choices. The chairs were uncomfortable. Finally, or perhaps firstly, the lighting was so low that I had to pull out the light on my phone to read the menu.
Always a great venue for business breakfast
The food was great. Michael came by the table. It was quiet enough so we could talk.
Need to get some Blanton bourbon in the bar.
Michael's is THE place for a good business or social lunch in a great ambiance with tremendous service. I recommend it to everyone!!!
Excellent food... and the fact the owner personally checks in on EVERY table is emblamtic of its determination to maintain its very very high standards.
This is my chosen spot to relax and enjoy innovative cooking. There's always a surprise dish on the go. And, there is never hassle over asking for starter portions of entrées. It's a fantastic, buzzy atmosphere, a bright space and the staff are welcoming and attentive.
