We've been going to Michaels on both coasts for decades. This time the food was better than ever
It is simply New York’s most happening lunch!!!
Michael's is a nice, mid-range American restaurant in mid-town. There are restaurants that are more pretentious, more exotic, or more lively, but Michael's is a place where you can sit, enjoy your food and companions, the unobtrusive service and not feel harried. There is a variety of contemporary art on the walls, a little fusion spin to a few dishes, but overall it's just a nice restaurant. In a city often guilty of overkill, where restaurants flame brightly and then flame out, Michael's is a steady oasis of dependable service and food. When a minor problem cropped up with a nearby table, we were quickly and quietly moved to a different spot and made comfortable. We enjoyed our meal and the understated, high quality service.
Amazing staff, amazing food.
From the moment we entered the restaurant everyone was friendly and accommodating. We sat at the bar first had delicious cocktails before going to our table. Once at the table our waiter was attentive and very funny. The manager Jason could not have been more wonderful. A great experience if you need somewhere with good food that’s not loud so you can enjoy your conversation Michael’s is the place for you.
Food was very good; service was slow during the noisy lunch hour.
We requested a table on an outer edge due to the noise level, principally so could have a productive conversation. We were informed by the manager that all of those tables were reserved by and for “regulars”.
Great time. Food was excellent. Service great. Quiet place in midtown near 5th Avenue. Good for romance
The servers were wonderful as was the food. It.was so nice to be able to go to a restaurant where you could actually have a conversation with wonderful ambience and good food. We will definitely come back!
Michael's is classic. The food and service are terrific.
The food was great and Michael's is one of my favorite business lunch venues. However, this lunch experience was embarrassing. The food was great, as usual. That being said, what normally would be a one hour/ one hour 20 minute lunch was over two hours as we could not get the eye of the pink shirted waiter. There were many pink shirted wait staff walking about, in fact I would say approximately 15 of them. No one seemed to want to address our table. Perhaps because it was a table of women. A table of men seated after us, were served and left 35 minutes before we had a chance to leave to make it to our 2 PM meeting-- a 5 minute walk--, for which we were late.
Anyway, it just took way too long and at the end even my guest commented that the service was not good. These pink shirted men were milling about, never making eye contact, nor offering nor asking at our table. We sat for very long periods of time between courses, and between main entrée and coffee and dessert. There were a group of pink shirted men talking by the back, but we just could not get service. We practically had to stand and waive each time to a pink shirted man to get service. These pink shirts need to be trained. I will not go there again.
Nice restaurant and excellent service . Prices while expensive are typical for Manhattan
Wonderful experience! Will be back!
Extremely odd blast from the past! I felt like I had stepped into circa 1986 or a scene from American Psycho.
Great food, lovely garden view, interesting 80's decor and art collection.
Efficient and friendly staff.
$37.00 for a salad. A little pricey.
We’ve had our breakfast here. It occasionally being used for bussiness people. The staff, the food and the ambiance is very good for everyday dining.
Michael’s is my go to power breakfast spot. The staff actually know my name and make accommodations when necessary. I never go anywhere else if I am in the neighborhood
They always make you feel like a celebrity with their warm reception and service, and the place just feels so comfortable. Great food and wine list too!
Great service begins when you are greeted at the door. Our dinner was excellent from crab cakes to Nantucket bay scallops with arugula in a delicious sauce. My companion had the Korean beef tacos. Wine by the glass list was a cut above. Our waiter was both personable and efficient. A lovely evening.
My friends and I tried this restaurant for Restaurant Week Dinner for the first time.
Overall, we all liked food and enjoyed.
However, our waiter’s service was not as good as food, which was very disappointed.
As we didn’t get a bread basket even other tables got, I asked him if we could have it. And he just said “oh you want breads? Ok...”.. Excuse me?? He should not say “oh sorry...”?!
And after the payment, the lady just picked up our card receipts without saying “Thank You”. She said “I need to collect these”.
Floor managers and coat check lady were very nice.
However, personally I am not sure if I want to go back there...
Michaels is an elegant restaurant with a wonderful menu and great food. I love it.
One of the best restaurants in NYC I’m convinced- the food was so impeccable and unique that my friend and I came twice this month. This will be a place I come to again and again and recommend to anyone in town.
We had to ask for the restaurant week menu. It might have been better to have delivered both the regular and restaurant week menus, instead of just the former. Best hamburger I've ever had, will give them that, but $28 is a tad prices for a burger. The greeting staff were amiable and courteous, first rate I'd say. Rather too noisy at lunch for my comfort.
Michael's was a very pleasant experience with very good food. the owner came around to make you feel welcomed. the food was nicely presented . all courses were very good. the tables were spaced well so you didn't feel crowded. It was a very nice evening.
Michael's is always a welcoming environment with great food and great hosts in Michael, Steve, L'Oreal and Joanna among others. Six stars would be better!!
This was our 3rd time having dinner at Michael's. We had Branzino, Scottish Salmon and Rack of Lamb. Exceptional! Not one single, small complaint! For sides - Potato Puree and Haricot - Verts (string beans) with almonds - perfect!! And to end this perfect meal - Michael's cookies - truly, truly the best cookies I've ever had.
I will not lie - this restaurant is not inexpensive - but absolutely worth the cost for such an exceptional meal. Of course, we'll be back : )
Comfortable, elegant dining room. Easy to have a nice conversation. Restaurant Week dinner was tasty but not amazing. Service should have been much more professional for a restaurant in this class. Instead, it seemed as if the servers were untrained college students.
We went for NYC Winter Restaurant Week. Place is very pleasant, nicely decorated and very noisy at lunch time. We were promptly seated. Staff is nice but totally discombobulated, mostly the server of our section: tables seated after us were served before, for instance. After being “watered” to death for 40 minutes we had to call the attention to one of the Maitre D who promptly made sure we got our appetizers! Restaurant Week Menu Selection was good, nothing fancy, but the quality was there and main courses had been prepared with care, unfortunately the desserts were nothing special. Selection of wines by bottles very expensive. We will give another chance to this place
very pleasant dining room, tasteful, quiet, nice view of garden. waiting staff very attentive. excellent appetizer of smoked salmon and excellent dessert of banana brule. the linguine was a bit disappointed... not al dente and the sauce a bit watery.
Great service, food, and ambiance; the restaurant seems to be popular with nearby residents in this high-end neighborhood. The lunchtime crowd caters to nearby media-publishing execs. A good place to dine after a MOMA visit for an updated take on classic American-French-influenced cuisine.
Service always great
Holland Dover Sole not as good as usual last two times and also had price increase
Wine great
Sides and salad great
Fantastic restaurant week dinner. Great tasting foods. Outstanding services. Memorable dining experience.
Chosen due to proximity to City Center and because of restaurant week. It is spacious and quiet enough to have a conversation — both in short supply these days. The sea bass was outstanding: crispy on the outside; moist and tasty on the inside. The winter fruit for dessert was a welcome light alternative. May not be able to afford this if not restaurant week, but it was a real pleasure.
I've been wanting to try this place for awhile so when I saw it was participating in Restaurant Week I jumped on the chance. We were seated in the back room which was fine, the place was full and we even saw a few famous faces there. I was very surprised by the very dated 80s décor though. I guess I was expecting a very rich, classic ambiance. The service was excellent, very attentive and friendly. The food was good, however, I found the portions to be very small, I'm not sure if it was because of the pre-fixe menu or if that is the way they serve all the time. The prices were hefty so I doubt I would go back for a regular menu meal. You can tell that the clientele oozed $. The owner Michael greeted all the customers, which was a nice touch. Not a bad experience at all, just not for me.
We’ve dined at Michaels for breakfasts and brunches but lunch was perfect
We’ve made Valentine Day’s reservations
Michael was charming !
Thank you
Two of us went for Restaurant week and experienced that Menu, the presentation was beautiful ,the food delicious, flavorful ,the ambience lovely and the Service delightful.
Highly recommended
Thank you to the staff and of course the chef. Dinner was delicious and the service was top notch.
Food was wonderful. I had butternut squash fries and winter squash risotto (clearly, I like squash); both were delicious. Service was great. Nice environment.
This was a business/Friends' get-together lunch.
Michael's is perfect for both categories.
Hate writing a great review because I always worry that too many people are going to find out that Michael's is the best place in New York City, and then I will have trouble getting in. I love this place. Great food. Perfect atmosphere. I hope they never change a thing.
It’s always good!
