Michael's opened in 1989 with much fanfare and continues to create seasonal dishes that live by Michael McCarty's ethos of the best ingredients thoughtfully prepared. Good food, great people, great party!!

First rate. Every time. Terrific scallops, excellent shrimp cocktail, prefect frites, superb cheese plate. Wine was outstanding, as was the Rusty Nail. Service cheerful, and you can actually have a conversation because the noise level is very manageable.
Always a warm, gracious place for business lunch.
This is a perfect place for a business breakfast.
I have reviewed this restaurant many times which in and of itself says enough. We had a lovely lunch although I will say my cheeseburger was over cooked and lack luster. But that is the first time I didn't love what I ordered
MIchael's servcie and food were very good. A bit overpriced as most fine-dining restaurants in New York City. Two appetizers, two entrees, two side vegetables, two glasses of wine $200 with tip $240 total; for lunch. The decor is a bit dated; the restroom is very dated and needs renovation. I'd recommend if you want to splurge...
Not sure what is happening at this restaurant but the service when down a lot. The staff was not professional and our waitress never came to our table to see if we liked the food or needed anything, she was very pushy and wanted us to order more food. It is obvious that everyone on the floor needs more training. The Manager was very nice and he helped us out more then anyone else. The food was good but no great like it used to be.
We enjoyed lunch during Restaurant Week. We were a group of 5. Most of us ordered the branzino and leek potato soup. One person ordered the pizza and 2 order the smoked salmon appetizers. Our shared extras, were a side of string beans with mushrooms and for dessert citrus cheesecake and brownie. All food prepared perfectly and we were most satisfied.
Food was amazing. Service
Was very slow for a not too busy room. We attempted to split check between 4 cards and numbers all screwed up.
But I’d go back because of the food but we ran out of time for dessert.
Our initial impression after walking into the restaurant was that it was going to be a disappointing experience as the ambiance and decor was very dated. For a split second, we regretted making this reservation. However, the service was very friendly and servers were very attentive. Then we were impressed with the presentation of food and the taste of the food was impeccable. My husband also loved their negroni.
I would definitely recommend Michael's to others.
I think if the restaurant was to be updated it would definitely elevate the experience.
Everyone on staff is helpful and cordial, from evening service manager, Elisa, to waitstaff and bus service. My favorite cousin from Chicago was in town on business and she couldn’t stop raving about the food and relaxed ambiance after a super hectic day. I am a business lunch customer, but the night time service makes Michael’s an all day destination! And my martini was perfection! Thank you.
Amazing. Beautiful restaurant. Love the decor. Simple with a garden. Food was excellent. Branzino was so tasty.
Great service as always and fun to meet Michael and his star chef in person. This meal was lunch during restaurant week. We wanted our good friend to see how great the food is at Michaels! Can’t wait to return!
Excellent food, restaurant week so small portions and a glass of wine is expensive.
Everything was amazing, from the food to the service. They made a celebratory night special.
Outstanding value during Restaurant week Lunch! Highly recommend Michael's for Restaurant Week. Food was delicious and prepared just as requested! Excellent for a business lunch! Thank you Michael's for the great experience!
Filet was mediocre, at best.
For the Restaurant Week dinner, the portions seemed small (but adequate); there should have been more information about prices, as the $21 glass of wine was a surprise, but I should have asked. Altogether it was a pleasant experience but neither of us is likely to try it again.
My friend was in from abroad and we
Wanted to catch up. Michael’s was the perfect spot. The food was excellent (we ordered all the tapas and two sides) - we were able have a conversation (not too loud) and while the staff was very attentive we never felt rushed. I did deduct one star for ambience because it was a bit too dark and let’s face it going out to dinner midtown Manhattan isn’t really looked for value - it is not cheap but it is wellworth it!
I love Michael's--the management is always accommodating, respectful and helpful. They have a great clientele and the food is good. What more can I ask for?
Michael's is a wonderful restaurant. The food is perfect, fresh, delicate, beautifully prepared and the service is excellent, the wines lovely. We went to see Alvin Ailey at City Center and it was incredibly convenient and delicious....
Was expecting better food for the price. The burrata app basically had a smear of burrata on the bottom. The app should have been called beet salad with a hint of burrata.
It is beyond time for a top to bottom freshen up in the main dinning room. The food and service continue to be top notch however, at this Midtown price point a nicer ambiance is really key to the overall experience.
It was a great meal in a very nice setting. It’s a little loud in the front room but most New York City restaurants are noisy.
Amazing service and consistent. Nice to see this restaurant still exceeds my expectations.
My favorite place for breakfast in NYC.
Great food, ambiance, convenient,...a great way to start ones day.
The place is very dated in decor. There is a ton of erotic art which we found off-putting. Old smelly carpet. Really a problem. Food and drink was tasty and modern but was very very expensive. Location is convenient to 5th shopping. Def wouldnt return until total remodel.
I found Michael's because it was near a venue I was heading to later that night. Nice, upscale place, but good for a group because they have these giant wedding-like tables. It's pretty pricey, but everything we had was good. Cocktail list could be stepped up. They had 6 drinks on it and were out of one.
I'm normally not impressed enough with a place to actually take time and do a review, but the food and and service was so good it's worth giving a review. We had a party of six and ordered six different entrees- all were spectacular. We've been to many restaurants in this neighborhood and we all agreed Michael's is by far the best we've been to.
You get what you pay for...the food and service was outstanding! I will highly recommend Michael's to friends.
Great food! I had dinner with a big group, everyone was very pleased. Good wine selection. Service was little slow in the beginning but was very good overall. Highly recommend.
Perfect venue for first date. And the food, as always, was delectable!
This was a special occasion - a friend retiring from a distinguished career - and he and his partner had never been to Michael's, so it was especially special for them. They loved the art (the art!), Michael came over to see hello, and we had a delightful, delicious meal in this legendary restaurant. Always wonderful. Always a treat. I just ate vegetables, husband has Spanish octopus, one person ate truffle pizza, and the celebrant had Michael's burger with gruyere. The plate of cookies is divine.
Too busy during the holidays to meet customer requests.
I always love going to Michael's. Great service, good food and I always feel taken care of.
Always enjoy lunch at Michael's. The classic New York restaurant with a great atmosphere and excellent food. The staff, from the Manager on down, make you feel welcome and they are professional in their jobs. Always an enjoyable experience.
A who's who of media and marketing with a staff that knows everyone and makes everyone feel special and important.
stayed nearby and was looking for a nice place to eat. Michael's fit the bill. Great service and good choice of small and large plates. We shared the Mushroom Bisque, Korean tacos and the duck breast. Finished off with cheese plate and pumpkin cheesecake. Good ambiance.
On a crowded holiday night we enjoyed good food and good service. It was festive (loud) and we could barely conduct a conversation. Felt like we were yelling at each other.
Michael's is always a unique and great dining experience.
