Since Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink first opened in the Miami Design District in spring of 2007, diners have come to embrace and crave its refreshing combination of laid-back atmosphere and seriously good food, a neighborhood bistro that is the ultimate showcase for the type of cuisine that chef/owner Michael Schwartz does best – homemade, unpretentious, delectable, with an emphasis on great local ingredients. The restaurant is open seven days a week and serves lunch, an afternoon menu, dinner and brunch. Our main dining room and courtyard seat 100, and The Bar Room, an additional 16, with 24 more seats at a welcoming bar where guests can enjoy our Afternoon Menu including raw bar from 3pm-5:30pm Monday through Saturday. Sunday Brunch is where our small plates shine on a weekly-changing menu of savory and sweet. Our restaurant is located in the vibrant Design District neighborhood, luxury fashion’s new playground in Miami.

We made a reservation at 8pm and we did not get our table until 8:45pm. That is inexcusable for a place like this. Because of the delay they gave us some free snacks and the waiter was extremely nice and the food was delicious as always. But we still sat for 45 minutes . Up to 15 minutes is understandable. More than that is bad management.

Great service, evenly paced. Not rushed. Food as usual was excellent. However eggplant appetizer was bland. A bit disappointing. The heirloom tomato with straticiatella was OUTSTANDING. I was astonished that one -1- large (not even x large or jumbo) stone crab was $28 - more expensive than Joe’s Stone Crab!

It really pains me to write this review. I have had some amazing dining experiences at MGFD and this one was totally out of sync with the previous ones. The food lacked the excitement of previous meals - it was just OK (the short rib lacked flavor and was slightly dry). The service was TERRIBLE. The waitress had to be reminded twice of things we ordered and that never arrived, she was rarely around - we ran out of water (bottled, which makes you wonder) for a long period of time until I flagged someone down. The noise level was unbearable - I'm usually not that squeamish about that but we couldn't carry on a conversation (why they would have music from the speakers in a totally jammed packed small restaurant is beyond me). It wasn't an enjoyable experience. To add insult to injury the bill comes with the now standard Miami insult of calculating tips at minimum 18 and up to 25%. Give me a break - you are definitely not worth any of that.
I think Michael Schwartz should stop opening new restaurants in every corner and focus on the ones he has.

The food was excellent, however the waitress was odd. There was almost a blank expression on her face every time she came to the table and when she dropped off the check at the end, she just laid it on the table and walked away? No words? If you don't get this waitress, you will enjoy a great restaurant that has great food.

I was there was 2 girlfriends and we had a great dinner. The staff was very accommodating of one persons allergies and dietary restrictions. I appreciate their flexibility. The lamb ribs were great. The deserts were great too. Thanks to Bobby and his team for a nice night.
