Michael's Genuine Food & Drink Ratings and Reviews
Second time there. We had a reservation for two people and showed up early - as expected table wasn't ready so went to the bar as had two seats open. As we got settled we saw how chaotic it was and thought better off to just eat at the bar. Think that was a mistake. Bar staff were friendly but completely overwhelmed and the service timing was really poor. The food, though, was good. We were two pretty average eaters and so did 4 smaller dishes Lamb ribs were fantastic. Japanese eggplant was good (and interesting) if not great, same for the beet salad. Ended with a duck confit. My friend really enjoyed it - I thought it was just ok.
I'd go back. I think it was an exceptionally crazy night and the staff were trying, just couldn't keep up. And I made some mistaken choices - likely a better experience if had waited for the table.
First time at a table for two was better service and better food - still a good spot.
I have been here many times. This is the only time where I was just ok about the experience. We were sat about 30-mins late from our reservation time and no one said a word. Ok fine. But the staff just seemed overworked that night or I was just unlucky to not get the best staff there was.
Food was great as always though. Just be prepared for a wait sometimes on busy weekends. Overall will keep coming back. Just hope its not a new trend.
My only long lasting complaint about this place is the smoking outside. The staff needs to be a MUCH better job and making sure people are not smoking right next to diners. It can really ruin a meal.
Michael's Genuine has become one of my favorite haunts and for this Sunday brunch, I wasn't at all disappointed. Fabian was our server assisted by Vincent, a server in waiting. They combined to make our meal and our date a joy. We started with simple appetizers of olives and deviled eggs, scrumptious. My date had a Lavender 75 cocktail poured to perfection. Our main meals off of the brunch menu were hominy and short ribs and steak and egg. Both were as tasty as one could wish for. What a great place!
I decided on Michael Genuine Foods because i had been there for lunch during the holidays and i was blown away buy the duck confit. The duck confit was crispy and well flavored, I also had the roasted eggplant witch was very flavorful. My lunch was a hit!!
So I decided to celebrate my sons birthday dinner at Michael’s , we ordered the duck confit witch was flavorful but not as crispy as the time before, I think its because the chef but the fruit sauce on top of the skin so the skin of the duck wasn’t as crispy. I also ordered the octopus witch was perfectly seasoned and very tender, we also ordered the roasted eggplant and that was perfect!! Overall we had a great meal at Michael’s!
The picture of the duck confit was from my previous lunch!
We are normally fans. Meal today was awful. The kitchen seems to have gotten “backed up” which is a total rookie mistake. This place has been around for years and should certainly have management who can predict the flow on a holiday week. I had to pay the check as I got my food because we had waited almost an hour and a half for our food and needed to leave to make a flight. Very disappointing!!
Always very tasty and beautifully presented food. The tomato and cucumber salad with feta was fantastic and the tastiest tomatoes imaginable. Service is always very professional and the atmosphere is great. Never disappoints after dining there countless times over the last 10 years.
MY RESERVATION WAS CANCELLED AT THE LAST MINUTE.
I set a reservation for my sisters birthday at 5:15 pm. The day of the reservation I received a call telling me that my reservation was moved to 5:30. I set the reservation at 5:15 because we wanted to eat the lunch menu. 5:30 pm stated the dinner menu.
VERY UNPROFESSIONAL FOR A RESTAURANT WITH A GOOD REPUTATION.
After waiting for 20 minutes for a table once we arrived for our 8pm reservation, we then waited another 10 minutes for someone to come to the table and attend to us. 40 minutes in we finally got water. Drinks arrived 50 minutes in — the drinks were the high point of the night. When we tried to order from the rather limited menu at MGFD, many items were not available! I finally settled for a burger, my partner ordered the barrel fish. The burger was just ok, the fish was over cooked and very dry. Needless to say Michael’s Genuine was a sore disappointment and I would not recommend it to even my worse enemy, let alone a friend.
the first time I visited this restaurant was 6 years ago and it immediately became one of my favorite restaurants because of the food and service so when I'm back in town I try and make it here. I would say my last two trips the food was still very good but the service wasn't as good as the first time (not bad mind you just there, unmemorable. and for me anymore, service really makes or breaks an experience/a meal). the stone crab app was amazing (sauces with it were fantastic), octopus was wonderful-really nice spice flavors (got this to go and it stood up well the next day), pork belly was the dish that stole my heart 6 years ago and it still lives up to my memory which says a lot. I also got the snapper which I thought was pretty good, nothing amazing but well done simple dish, light and fresh. the brussel sprout side was soooooo good. I got the pistachio pie dessert to go which was very good. the one plus to the service was that the waiter gave me a scoop of gelato on them while I waited for my to go order (which took quite a while along with my snapper dish). I'll definitely go back again next time I'm in town, but hoping the service can get a little of its sparkle back (along with things working a little better in the kitchen so things can get out in better timing).
