Within walking distance of university hospitals and CWRU campus. Very good service by knowledgeable and attentive wait staff. Food is quite good and decent wine list. Is also within walk of Severence Hall. I recommend highly and will visit again when in area.
We picked Michaelangelo's for a nice birthday dinner. I had been there before, and the food, service, and ambiance were great,
We had an eggplant appetizer (my friend is a vegetarian) that was delicious and large enough to share. I ordered the gnocchi with a hazelnut pesto sauce, but the sauce was very bland. My friend ordered a drunken goat cheese pasta that was amazing.
The service was excellent with a very attentive server, and the wine list was pretty extensive. Overall, it was an excellent experience.
Very disappointed. Have not been in a few years and will not go back. Ignored after being seated so we had to flag a waiter, waited again for water, menus. Had to ask about specials. Took forever for anything to arrive. One in our party ordered well done pork chop and it arrived barely cooked. Took some time to flag someone down and ask for it to be cooked. Entire party was finished with their entrees before the pork chop was returned to table by manager. When questioned about all that occurred to this point manager developed an unprofessional attitude and responses. Not what you would expect from a higher quality restaurant. The executive chef/owner's name and phone were asked for on the way out and hopefully a discussion with him will provide better results.
The only positive to take away was that the food (other than the uncooked pork chop) and wine was very good. What a shame.
There was an older woman and a younger girl at the front desk. They were not very friendly. Nobody welcomed us to the establishment. We were a half hour early for our reservations and the place was empty. She said our table wasn't ready. We asked if we could have a drink at the bar and wait. The younger girl said she would come get us. Same thing with the bartender. She told us we couldn't sit where we were sitting and we waited over 5 minutes at an empty bar for her to serve us drinks. To the bartenders credit she did become much friendlier however she never came back to check on us. The rude young girl from the front came back and sat us. I was wearing a dress (very obviously mind you) and she asked if I wanted a black napkin due to my "pants" I figured as much about offering me the napkin as she should but the way she said it was super rude and the whole thing was awkward. However from then on out we had an alright time. The food was absolutely amazing. We both got the filet. Excellent. However the service wasn't what I would have expected from such a restaurant. Luckily the food was so amazing but I have had much much much better experiences else where. For the amount of money we spent I just wished there was something a bit extra. The dining room is nice and clean but nothing spectacular. Come for the food!
Michaelangelo's was the quintessential experience for Cleveland's Little Italy neighborhood. The pastas are hand-made, the wine list is huge and the staff is extremely knowledgeable. This in an authentic and very classy-upscale Italian restaurant. The menu is extensive, yet very original. This place is classy and perfect for a romantic date. It offers ample parking as well. Definitely worth the price. The food was incredible. Would definitely recommend to friends and come back again!
Greatly disappointed that this restaurant which had long been my favorite spot for treating special friends to celebratory Lunches is no longer open for such. Food is always superior. The ambiance is charming. Prices are a bit high but in keeping with the quality. Service is adequate.
Loved it. I could not have had a better experience
We tried Michelangelo's on the recommendation of locals. Our take: pretentious white-tablecloth, been here forever place. The whole experience just felt stuffy. Overall the food was good. Large portions on pasta dishes, and I appreciated the option for 1/2 order of pasta. Lots of wine options both by the glass and by the bottle. If you're looking for creative Italian or old school casual red-sauce Italian, go somewhere else.
General Manager not polite or friendly . Spends to much time in the bar area socializing with his regulars and doesn't come around and ask about your meal or service. BTW......waiter service very slow. Assistant waiter service poor also, had to request waters and refills not to mention bread in a Italian restaurant........hello! Empty plates left sitting on the table while waiting for desert menus. Use to be a regular not anymore. The restaurant appears to be riding on it's laurels. Final note; the restaurant wasn't busy either.
Summary: The food is still very good but everything else leaves a bad taste in your mouth! :(
Ah... Pasta. I am not a fan of pasta. This place makes amazeballs pasta. The food was ridiculously good. Mussels in an exceptionally flavorful sauce. Mushroom tortellini was completely outstanding. The bread / oil has a touch of balsamic in it, best in Cleveland hands down. I lived in Italy for a year and I have not eaten Italian food this good since then. The prices are well worth it and they are what you would expect for this level of quality dining.
Wonderful meal. We will definitely be back. The server was great...friendly and knowledgeable.
The food was good but we were never asked if we wanted more drinks.
It's hard to believe that I've lived in greater Cleveland my whole life and have passed Michaelangelo's on countless occasions, yet I had never paid them a visit until recently. Needless to say, I'm quite glad that I did! This fine establishment embodies the art of elegance and accentuates the standards for fine dining! The menu is varied of Northern Italian fare, which is abundant in quality choices that vary from minestrone to meat dishes, all of which are expertly prepared and taste decadent. The wine list is expansive in selection and offers reds and whites from every corner of the globe. Even more impressive is the fact that complimentary fresh baked bread is brought to the table with an olive oil tapenade. Lastly, for desert you can't leave without enjoying a tempting square of tiramisu - it's heaven on a plate! While the prices here are a bit on the high end, the quality and ample portion sizes make it well-worth the money spent. At Michaelangelo's you truly do get what you pay for, and then some.
We love coming to Michaelangelo's - we have come for years each time we visit Cleveland. Food, ambiance, service, all 5-star in our books. Missed Johnny this visit, hopefully we see him next time.
Dinner with my lovely wife...the bar area is intimate but the larger area was pretty bright until lights were finally dimmed. The service was very good and the duck ravioli with orange was wonderful.
Service was slower than it should have been. It took 15 minutes to get the cocktails we ordered. Our server recognized the problem, and the drinks were free. I think they needed additional waitstaff on a Saturday night. The food was excellent.
Excellent dinner and very good service. Our waiter was most gracious and helpful.
Worst waiter EVER! We used to dine here all the time. Amanda was the best waitress and always made for a perfect dining experience. Since she left we have not had anyone as good as her, however this guy that we had on Friday night will dissuade us from returning to Michaelangeo's anytime in the near future. There are just too many other fabulous restaurants to dine at to have to endure a rude, bothered, inadequate waiter! The restaurant was 25% full on Friday evening. There was no excuse for the poor inattentive service. All six of us felt like it was a chore for him to wait on us. Then to top it all off he messed up the checks and would not correct them! At 9:00 we were the ONLY table in the restaurant! Exactly what else did he have to do? My husband and I ended up paying for someone else's drink, someone else's full entree when I ordered a half entree, someone else's salad and someone else's dessert. NOT acceptable! In retrospect we should have asked for a manager and pointed out this waiters flaws and demanded that our checks be accurate.
Fabulous food and great variety. Restaurant becomes somewhat noisy as it becomes busier.
Food was just awesome as always, however our service on this visit was unusually slow. Our server did a great job, but we waited for food, drinks, bread, and our check longer than we have experienced in our many visits to Michaelangelo's.
This was our third visit to Michaelangelos. The food was very good and the service was acceptable. I was somewhat disappointed when I asked for the "house" cabernet and it turned out to cost $16.00 per glass.
Been to Michaelangelo's several times, and it always provides excellent service and cuisine. Parking is convenient. It is my favorite in Little Italy.
We had a lovely evening at Michelangelo's celebrating a 40th birthday. The menu is extensive, the food is fresh, well-prepared and delicious. Great selection of Italian wines! The restaurant is comfortable and perfect for a relaxing dinner. Tables are spaced out well so that you can hear your companions but not conversations at every other table.
Michaelangelos was everything you would expect from an upscale Italian restaurant - authentic Italian cuisine, relaxing cozy atmosphere and knowledgeable friendly servers. We will not hesitate to come back for another delightful meal.
We've been to Michaelangelo's a number of times but have never come away impressed. The food is not as good as their reputation would lead you to believe. This trip the service was poor. We had a wait person with and attitude which served to move our ambivalent perception to negative.
Will not return.
Love the ambiance in the bar area. the 4 top located to the right of the bar is in my opinion the best table in the entire restaurant. Great Food, and a notable wine list! My absolute favorite in Little Italy!
Fabulous and different wine list, ask Jon, the manager, for help choosing wine. He is the best! Sublime pastas, special specials, veal, beef, fish, all worth a try! Pricey but worth it. A gem in Little Italy!
Used to be my favorite Italian restaurant. My husband's gnocchi was not hot, my pasta tasted like last night's leftovers warmed up, antipasto platter had unappetizingly thick slices of prosciutto. Server asked if we wanted her to clear antipasto platter, and when we did not answer immediately she said "suit yourself" or words to that effect, and ran off.
Had a wonderful time with my boyfriend. Great ambiance Great service. Food was excellent. loved the specials too!
Food was great but service was amazing. Victoria was funny, patient (my mom was a handful!) and attentive. Always love our meals there!
Thanks the food and service were second to none. The Spaner family.
Drinks and appetizers were superb. Pasta came out lukewarm and was just ok for the price and reputation.
Great place. Two items for improvement: heat the plates. Food served on cold plates doesn't stay hot for long.
Train the servers to crumb the table.
We used to be frequent diners at this restaurant. The past two visits have been completely unacceptable and we will not return. The last time we were here we had terrible service. Our server brought the wrong meals, and then once they were returned she proceeded to bring one meal at a time for about 20 minutes. She was rude, and made us feel like we were a huge inconvenience to her. We asked for our bill to be divided by three because we were three couples. When the bill arrived it had been divided in half., and each of the three couples were charged on their credit card for half the bill. We understood that mistakes can happen and nicely brought it to our servers attention. She said "give me your bill" . She fixed it and gave us back the bill . No apology, just slammed it on the table. I contacted the manager about our evening because I was very upset as was my husband. He finally called me back after three attempts on my part, and had no response. He did not seem very interested in what we were saying and never offered apologies. We had spent over $700 that evening and we felt that was not acceptable.
This time when we dined we had a male server who had a nasty attitude from the get-go. He was rude, and made the evening very uncomfortable as we were taking another couple out for their 60th birthdays. One of the meals was prepared incorrectly, and again he just grabbed the plate off the table and walked away. When he brought it back he was very out of sorts and aggravated.
It is unfortunate because their food is outstanding and the atmosphere is great . We will not return and we will not encourage others to dine there either.
Had wait 15 minutes for table
We were seated in corner of banquet room with large birthday party
Our server was very good, but must have had tables in other dinning room, because we had long waits between service. Salad and pasta were excellent. Veal Osso bocco was dry and stringy and tough. However pistachio gelato was the best, so creamy
The salads were great and the pasta was unbelievable, as always. They have the best pasta I have had anywhere in the states. The crème brulée was exquisite as well.
We had a lovely family meal at Michaelangelo's where the food was delicious and the service by Victoria was even better. Thanks for a great evening.
A truly fake Italian Restaurant ! Not even close to Italian cuisine from real Italian people
I would expect much better service for a restaurant of this type and price range. He didn't introduce himself. He didn't check back with us after he had served the main course. The food was very disappointing. I had the rock shrimp special and it was all pasta with only a few pieces of shrimp and snow peas. The bread was very good and the décor/ambience was excellent. Food and service were well below par.
The food was excellent, the best I've had in Cleveland. Service was prompt and polite. Best restaurant in Little Italy. Highly recommended for special occasions.
