We’ve been to many high end restaurants in NYC, San Francisco, and other cities. We have NEVER had a dinner as disappointing as this one. Food was tasteless. My bites of sea bass had some gristly things in the middle of the flaky fish. My husband had to saw thru the pieces of squab I was served-it was very tough and dry. Noise level was horrendous. Wait staff seemed like they were just tolerating us. Because it was so loud,we had to ask for descriptions to be repeated and it seemed they did not like being asked again to repeat a description. Where their Michelin star comes from is beyond my comprehension. We should have used our dining dollars to either take a round trip flight to Mexico for some delicious tacos al pastor or bought some amazing seats for a Warriors game-either would have been a comparable price and much more satisfying. We left feeling we had really been ripped off. We will never go to any restaurant associated with Michael Mina again. It was a birthday celebration gone really bad.
The manager, Mr Giovanni Pugliese is ever kind, cordial and polite. My 2 guests were very happy and pleased, and they were impressed. They thanked me more than once for treating them lunch there.
Superb Service and Staff!! Interesting Egyptian Cuisine!
An incredible meal with PERFECT service (and the best presentation I’ve ever seen) that is deserving of the second Michelin Star. However it isn’t quite on par with some other Michelin 2 star locales I’ve been to and is very expensive.
Other than the snotty host, the meal was perfect and the ambiance was great.
This is the new Michael Mina. Its a 180 degree change in venue from the previous Michael Mina. The restaurant now touts itself to be a “Middle Eastern” restaurant. And it is exactly that. The level of the Middle Eastern music is unpleasantly loud and distracting. Service as always is perfect, thank you for that. The food is now heavy with Middle Eastern spices and flavors. If you like that style of food then you will absolutely appreciate the complexity and flavors of each Middle Eastern dish. We’ll miss the old Michael Mina along with SF Bourbon Steak. Best of luck.
The current menu at Michael Mina isn't my preference. Unique, but not as good as I have had in the past. And, there were several items that were an extra charge on an already high priced menu. It was a bit unclear what you were getting until the bill came... I am a Mina fan, but this particular experience wasn't as expected for me and my family.
4th time we went to MM. the first three times - I loved everything about it. The food, decor, service...the place was buzzing with energy. I still remember some of the dishes I had, even years ago
The new Middle East-inspired menu was not good. The inspiration is spices, but the flavors were not really developed. The spices tasted like they were rolled onto the food as an afterthought, not integrated into the dish. The lobster was a mess - two gooey and salty sauces without any contrast (missing the pot pie!). And the SALT- that was the overwhelming theme of the night. Everything was oversalted - and it was hard to taste much over the salt. The milk chocolate dessert - and I love sweet ant salty - was overwhelmingly salty.
Service wise there were some miscommunication issues that made the end of the meal a bit uncomfortable.
Overall a poor experience, especially for the cost. And - there was an eery quietness to the restaurant - the background music was very clear and audible - in fact the only memorable thing about the night. Not much talking from guest.
My first three experiences were amazing, but this fourth one was bad enough that I don’t think my wife and I will return.
Thx giving dinner menu (pre-fix) was amazing.
Overall it was a very enjoyable meal. The flavors of the tasting menu were new and exciting, but didn't pack a huge punch. The restaurant was beautiful and had great views of the street.
Lovely experience. Wonderful, friendly and warm atmosphere. Special thanks to both Giovanni Pugliese and Jeremy Shanker for
sharing their food and wine exuberance.
Best meal in San Francesco and I ate in a few of the best
Quality control is problematic. Some dishes are great, some actually poor, over salted and over cooked.
One of the best meals we've eaten--and we have dined at French Laundry, Grace, Alinea, Single Thread, etc. Truly different and delightful.
I took some clients to dinner here. Six course meal with wine pairing. Excellent experience. Great service and fabulous food. A bit pricey.
This is a Foodie must when in San Fran. The Chef takes particular care of preparation and plays homage to his Egyptian heritage.
Impeccable service, food, presentation. Amazing experience.
Todo estuvo óptimo, desde el 6 course di. Er, el maridaje y la atención óptima!
They have a new menu now. Only a 6 course tasting menu available, but it was amazing! The food was incredibly flavorful and beautifully presented. One of the most exciting menus that I have experienced - outstanding!
Our group loved this dining experience!! It was such a treat to have excellent service with excellent food. I regret that I didn’t photograph the menu to remind me later of all of the great food I was served.
Fantastic food and great service. Even the house bread was amazing-- served warm, freshly baked with a delicious dip.
Everything was perfect!
World class food and servixe
Nice, refined food. Understated and good. Truly it is hard to find a restaurant these days whose food is any better than McD, let alone my own cooking. This one passes.
The service and food was excellent. I would recommend to others.
Outstanding service - excellent food - creative presentations and Chef even came by the table for a picture - outstanding meal!
What a fantastic place! It never disappoints. We had a table for seven and it was spectacular. Food was excellent, and the service was just great. I think we had 6 different waiters, including our handler. I would rate this as a top restaurant, although the bill was quite high. Worth it, highly recommended.
Food is very heavy lots of sauces and spices so a little too much and I’m a foodie. I like the old Michael Mina. It’s a 6 course meal so a lot of food The service was outstanding though. It’s a beautiful space great wine list.
Starter courses were great. Lobster was over cooked and not even the vast amount of coconut saffron sauce could help. Lamb undercooked. Local Pt Reyes Blue was extremely disappointing and paired with a wine that smelled of acetone. For the money this doesn’t deserve a second chance.
Ummm I’m not sure if all the money I spent here was worth it.
Server came to clean up my plate too quickly after each course. Come on, can you see there is food left?? We are still working on it!!!! Annoying.
And food was.. unique. Not necessarily delicious.
Will I come again? No.
Will I recommend to my friends? No.
Overall, much less than I expected.
My mother and I went to this restaurant on vacation to experience a nice dinner together. Service was out of this world and made us feel like VIPs From the moment we entered. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we’ll talk about it for many years to come !
Simply elegant excellence! Service, ambiance, cocktails and food were all superior.
Gracious and attentive service. The food is an experience in and of itself. Loved the use of innovative spices. Vegetarian friendly. Deserves its very high reputation. Highly Recommended!
Price fix menu only
$200 per person
Such a beautiful experience! Very personable.
The food was amazing - incredible flavors, presentation, ingredients. Just loved that.
The wine pairing was hit and miss. Some of the wine choices were just flat out bad. When we shared that input, the staff became quite defensive and asked if we’d ever been to Spain - one of us was actually from Spain :).
In the end, we saw that there was a $100/person service charge. That’s just a lot when we couldn’t get their attention when needed and we were feeling rushed with clearing plates.
Excellent service and food. Would definitely recommend!
W9nderful as always
The new menu with Moroccan spices was excellent. Every dish was delicious.
Amazing food, incredible service. Just be prepared because the outstanding restaurant will be reflected on your bill. Worth doing it
