Mica Ratings and Reviews
Disappointed in our last visit. zit could be because it was the day after Valentine's, and the chef may have been too tired, or a substitute chef was working that night, but at least one of the main dishes was completely not up to par: the salmon entree was not very tasty, and perhaps (?) to overcome that, the sauce was horribly horribly oversalted, almost to the point of making the dish inedible. In addition, the cabbage served with the salmon was TOUGH.
This used to be our favorite restaurant, but given our experience this time, I am at least somewhat wary about coming back.
Just first rate. Wonderful experience and worth every bit of what we paid.
One minor problem--the weather was bad, the restaurant was deservedly crowded and we had to wait almost 15 minutes with no place to sit. I don't know what the answer would be, though.
Came here for Valentine's Day and had a wonderful time. The menu was creative with some extra touches to make things special for the holiday. The cauliflower bisque, lobster risotto, venison and short rib were particularly outstanding though every dish was really delicious. The fact that you bring your own wine makes this a particularly great value.
Mica continues to impress. All 4 of us selected the special menu, "From Greece with Love," and were delighted with the outcome. The grilled octopus and lamb-based moussaka were both exceptional. We love the chef's thematic menus but the ala carte selections are compelling as well. Mica is without question one of Philadelphia's top restaurants!
Mica is one of the best restaurants around. The food is delightfully prepared, the perfect portion size, and always presented beautifully. This is an excellent restaurant for any occasion and a bonus that it’s a BYOB so bring your favorite bottle! The staff is amazing and always courteous and knowledgeable and offers spot on recommendations! You always leave happy!!! Thank you to all at Mica who make this such a wonderful dining experience!
The food was wonderful with 2 small exceptions. We had the tasting menu-the perfect amount of food. The brioche that came with the foie gras was burnt. Also, the noodles were hard, but my husband ate mine anyway. Very nice service. I would suggest reminding diners that it a BYOB when confirming the reservation.
Mica is a great BYO in Chestnut Hill. The food was very good beginning with the Crab Beignets Snack; absolutely delicious. The Crudo as an appetizer was very good and the Chicken and Lamb entrees were notable. Timing was off on this particular night at the early seating. There was a long lag time between each course. I think the Kitchen got backed up because the Server kept apologizing and the food arrived lukewarm instead of hot. Still worth a trip to Chestnut Hill for fine dining. Bring a special vintage to go along with your menu choices.
The Crispy Kale Salad was particularly innovative and delicious. Blue Crab 'snack' is very tasty and more filling than you might think. Torn Scallop entree was chock-a-block with baby clams, mussels, and various root veggies (I think--wasn't even sure of everything I was eating but it was good!). The atmosphere is genteel; you do hear the conversations around you so I wouldn't dine here if I wanted real privacy, but it has a good neighborhood vibe otherwise. Wait staff were attentive without being intrusive, in addition to being genuinely nice.
My wife and I were joining close friends for a special dinner together. Mica was perfect. We were a bit late but they had our table ready and were extremely accommodating to us. The food was outstanding, and since it is a BYO, we brought wine to accompany what we were ordering that we liked. They did not rush us at all, and each course was presented beautifully.
Very small restaurant - so a reservation is needed to guarantee a table, but well worth the drive from anywhere in the city, and worth the wait to eat there.
I can't wait to go back again when they get new seasonal items.
Had our New Years Eve Dinner at Mica! I love Mica and the quality of food it delivers! However, during this last visit, the food protions were not what they typically are. I was expecting more when paying $89 per person. I was disappointed but it will not hinder me going back.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. We are foodies, and we saw they had a tasting menu, so we thought it would be perfect for us, and it was. We were VERY pleased, and we even got to meet the owner and Chef, very nice person who is talented for sure! We told our family and friends about the experience and they are now interested in checking it out! We will be returning for sure.
We chose to do the tasting menu and it was a fantastic choice!! Every course, 6 total, was delicious and decadent! Historically, I am not a fan of salmon or lamb but didn't want to miss out on them if they were part of the tasting. I'm glad I chose to try them! Salmon was crispy and not fishy at all. And the lamb melted in my mouth! The icing on the cake was the dessert: chocolatey, hazelnut deliciousness with a grand marnier sauce.... OMG!!! And the fact that it's a BYO makes it even more wonderful!!
As locals to the area, we were anxious to try Mica. Overall the place does a good job of producing interesting dishes. The oysters with Shiitake mushrooms were excellent as were the tuna tartare and the bisque appetizers. Unfortunately the entrees and dessert were a bit of a mess. After waiting 30-40 minutes for our entrees, both dishes were overly salted and generally uninspired. The mousse dessert was also quite disappointing. The presentation was terrible as was the general texture of the mousse. Mica has a lot of potential and they obviously have inspired moments, but the kitchen seems to suffer from split-brain. As if one chef is preparing some of the dishes and another apprentice is preparing the rest. They need to work on their consistency to be a great local spot.
I took a friend for her birthday- her first time there- and we had the tasting menu from Emilia Romagna.... I was disappointed in the incredibly small portions- especially after I’d done a tasting menu before and it was incredible.
The regular menu is wonderful.
We have been to Mica many times since it opened. Now that the chef (Yanni) is the owner it is better than ever and always improving. This time the tasting menu was Italian (Ermilio Romano). It was super: so good that I walked back to the kitchen to thank him (and the rest of the staff).
Really enjoyed Mica. The services was friendly and low-key and professional at the same time. I think the chef really cares about the food. It is a BYOB. The chef was nice enough to suggest wines to us since we don't really know anything about wine.
The food was very tasty. The corn and wheatberry porridge appetizer was totally different from what I expected and very delicious. My husband had the beet salad and it was very good. I had the crispy salmon and my husband had chicken with wild mushrooms as our entrees.
The noise level was moderate.
