Mica Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I were joining close friends for a special dinner together. Mica was perfect. We were a bit late but they had our table ready and were extremely accommodating to us. The food was outstanding, and since it is a BYO, we brought wine to accompany what we were ordering that we liked. They did not rush us at all, and each course was presented beautifully.
Very small restaurant - so a reservation is needed to guarantee a table, but well worth the drive from anywhere in the city, and worth the wait to eat there.
I can't wait to go back again when they get new seasonal items.
Had our New Years Eve Dinner at Mica! I love Mica and the quality of food it delivers! However, during this last visit, the food protions were not what they typically are. I was expecting more when paying $89 per person. I was disappointed but it will not hinder me going back.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. We are foodies, and we saw they had a tasting menu, so we thought it would be perfect for us, and it was. We were VERY pleased, and we even got to meet the owner and Chef, very nice person who is talented for sure! We told our family and friends about the experience and they are now interested in checking it out! We will be returning for sure.
We chose to do the tasting menu and it was a fantastic choice!! Every course, 6 total, was delicious and decadent! Historically, I am not a fan of salmon or lamb but didn't want to miss out on them if they were part of the tasting. I'm glad I chose to try them! Salmon was crispy and not fishy at all. And the lamb melted in my mouth! The icing on the cake was the dessert: chocolatey, hazelnut deliciousness with a grand marnier sauce.... OMG!!! And the fact that it's a BYO makes it even more wonderful!!
As locals to the area, we were anxious to try Mica. Overall the place does a good job of producing interesting dishes. The oysters with Shiitake mushrooms were excellent as were the tuna tartare and the bisque appetizers. Unfortunately the entrees and dessert were a bit of a mess. After waiting 30-40 minutes for our entrees, both dishes were overly salted and generally uninspired. The mousse dessert was also quite disappointing. The presentation was terrible as was the general texture of the mousse. Mica has a lot of potential and they obviously have inspired moments, but the kitchen seems to suffer from split-brain. As if one chef is preparing some of the dishes and another apprentice is preparing the rest. They need to work on their consistency to be a great local spot.
I took a friend for her birthday- her first time there- and we had the tasting menu from Emilia Romagna.... I was disappointed in the incredibly small portions- especially after I’d done a tasting menu before and it was incredible.
The regular menu is wonderful.
We have been to Mica many times since it opened. Now that the chef (Yanni) is the owner it is better than ever and always improving. This time the tasting menu was Italian (Ermilio Romano). It was super: so good that I walked back to the kitchen to thank him (and the rest of the staff).
Really enjoyed Mica. The services was friendly and low-key and professional at the same time. I think the chef really cares about the food. It is a BYOB. The chef was nice enough to suggest wines to us since we don't really know anything about wine.
The food was very tasty. The corn and wheatberry porridge appetizer was totally different from what I expected and very delicious. My husband had the beet salad and it was very good. I had the crispy salmon and my husband had chicken with wild mushrooms as our entrees.
The noise level was moderate.
We went to MICA expecting a memorable meal and we got it. The only recommendation I would make to them is to clarify their Menu options- there is ala carte, then a $49 tasting and sometimes(?) a $69 menu and I don't know which is which or when. The $69 menu did not appear as a choice the night we went (a Thursday) but the $49 was great.
On this visit, we opted for the priced fixed Taste of the Piedmont area of Italy. It was delicious, creative .... we loved it. Mica has started to offer these special menus on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Bring your own bottle of wine to add to the delicious menu and it is winner. Just Wonderful!
This place is a treasure. The food is always absolutely perfect, the service is impeccable, and the ambiance is great. This time, we were seated in the back (we have always sat in front before), and it was perfect: much quieter than the front, so all in all an absolutely wonderful experience
Took my parents their to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary. They loved everything about it. It was especially nice that we could talk quietly at our table while dinner was served. It has a great cozy atmosphere and the food is amazing! It is my new neighborhood favorite for a nice meal.
Exceptional in every respect. We dine here often and
really can't believe how they manage to work in new and creative dishes (and some reinterpreted and modernized classics) so frequently. As a result, dining at Mica is always an exciting experience. Bravo!
I had another great meal here! This trip I took a different set of friends to experience this great little spot. We loved everything. My only comment is that the gougere were served *ice* cold. I understand these little pâte à choux cheese filled puffs can be served hot or cold, but ice cold was a disappointment. I think they would have been amazing served warm. My dining partners had the oysters and the plating and freshness is something they raved about, not to mention the tuna tartar, served with tuna that had literally just been delivered by their fish monger (and, again, was plated like a work of art). This is my new favorite find - and the fact that it's a BYO makes it even more special.
We've been huge fans of Mica for several years. It's unquestionably the best food in Chestnut Hill. We were a little uneasy after hearing that they'd changed hands and no longer had a liquor license but hoped for the best. And not only did it not disappoint, the food was probably better than ever. The liquor license piece turned out to be a non-issue (or maybe a plus). We brought a very nice bottle of wine (which probably cost us half what it would on a menu) and the staff did the corking and pouring without hesitation. Mica remains our favorite and we'll probably be back even more often now.
Continues to impress. As good as any foody-centric BYO in Center City. The menu is so creative, the setting quiet and serene, the staff absolutely perfect! In winter months tables are harder to get with the outdoor seating closing, so book ahead. The front room with a nice view onto historic Germantown Avenue is truly special. Thank you to the owners for bringing overdue superb cuisine to Chestnut HIll.
Can’t say enough about Mica I love this place! We tend to order a lot of the menu and share plates around the table and they accommodated perfectly. The food was amazing. I can’t think of one dish out of the entire meal (16 dishes or so) that had any flaws. Everything was delicious, well presented, and just perfect. The service was impeccable, all the servers knew what they were serving and could tell you everything about each dish. The best advice I can give is to go and try it yourself you will not be disappointed.
Food, space, service were all lovely -- unfortunately there was a very rowdy group at the next table -- in the small elegant environment of Mica their TGIFridays sort of behavior was very annoying--we could not hear our own 4 person conversation. I wished the Mica staff had asked them to keep it down though I acknowledge this is not easy to do.
Mica has climbed to the top of our favorite places to go list. Last night, we had the weekly "special menu," which was themed to New England. Every dish was noteworthy. The duck breast was amazing. We would be happy if every one of the four courses made it onto the regular menu.
