Mi Piace Ratings and Reviews
On a date, I made a reservation for 7:45pm and I checked in at 7:30. We waited a while until I saw folks that came in after us get seated. I approached the hostess and was told she accidentally forgot about us. We were finally seated around 8-8:05.
When seated, it took quite a while for a server to tend to us.
The food was pretty good, I enjoyed the calamari and Alfredo with Shrimp.
The server never came around to check on us and it took quite a while to pay my bill.
In short, food was good and service was terrible.
This was the 2nd time I have been here and I was so excited to order the fettuccine because I love truffle and the hint of it in that dish is amazing. And the additional perk is having fresh pasta to Enjoy! I wasn't disappointed! It was very warm in the restaurant and didn't cool down at all which was quite uncomfortable. My husband got the dine LA menu with the surf and turf and pork belly which was amazing and finished off with a chocolate creme brulee which was perfect and light! We will definitely return!
This was for a special birthday celebration which I planned and alerted the staff to days prior and the day of. The waitress was completely M.I.A. Except when the check came, the restaurant was so crowded we could barely move, we sat next to the bathroom entrance/kitchen and it was insanely hot, the staff forgot it was my friend's birthday, ran out of main ingredients like the arugala for their specialty pizza, and the waitress added her own tip at the end. That was not a typo. My friend's were astounded. I've been coming to Mi Piace since I was in high school. I'm almost 30 and needless to say, I will never return. I organized this as a big surprise for my friend's 30th and was so let down. The entrees were good but certainly not worth the price or the poor experience.
Bruschetta was all bread, no flavor, not juicy, no garlic.
Onion soup was so so - nothing to write home about.
Cesar salad - all dark leaves, no punch, no anchovy taste to the dressing - all in all tasteless.
Bruschetta was the worst of all. Bruschetta should be thin, with juices soaking into the crunchy bread. This was a thick piece of bread w cut up tomatoes on it.
They seated us at a table that had a large support pole blocking part of the table. They were clearly trying to jam as many people in as possible. The pole made dinner conversation very awkward. The service was also terrible. We sat for 20 minutes before someone even came over to take drink orders, then he disappeared for a long while. Slow and sloppy. Overall, while I have come here many times in the 20+ years that I have lived in Pasadena, I can no longer recommend it.
We have been coming to Mi Piace for years. The food and service are always excellent so it’s a real treat to come here. We even ordered a tray for a birthday party one year and everyone commented on how good the food was. I would say the chicken lasagne is always a favorite dish of ours and I think it’s their signature dish. If we weren’t always so full afterwards we’d want to try the chocolate soup! We’ve seen other guests order it and it smells and looks amazing. One day!
I've eaten at Mi Piace a number of times, and it's always good, as it was this time. I had inivited a friend to lunch who lives in Long Beach, so she made quite a drive. This time the service was really slow for some reason. I hope that they do a better job matching the service to the food next time.
Mi Piace is located in busy Old Pasadena. Our meal was a bit uneven--some dishes were very good, some needed a bit of help.
The very good: The fresh ricotta with lemon was really nice--bright flavor, a bit heavy on the olive oil, but we thoroughly enjoyed the dish. The scampi were perfectly cooked--and the veggies were really a nice complement to the dish--not the usual afterthought--they were nicely integrated and well-prepared. We tried gelato and sorbeto for dessert--both very nice.
The needs work: Lobster pasta special--OK, I'm pretty good with seafood, but it was a real struggle to get the lobster out of the halved shells. No assistance from the kitchen to get this started--and with small tails, took some effort to remove. The sauce was to be spicy--but was pretty flat--I liked the orange zest, but missed the spice kick. Also, pasta was slightly overcooked--and had 3 different types mixed in. So, just OK.
Good wine list--not extensive but well-chosen options.
Might have been uneven due to being a busy night. I'd give another try.
I'm local and have been here a handful of times. Food is usually good and priced accordingly. Bar area is nice but always busy. The ambiance however is lacking. Every time I've sat inside it's hot and crowded. People are jammed in their like sardines. Also very loud and hard to hear anybody you're with. Also appears to have become quite touristy. I would recommend sitting outside if you can.
