I've eaten at Mi Piace a number of times, and it's always good, as it was this time. I had inivited a friend to lunch who lives in Long Beach, so she made quite a drive. This time the service was really slow for some reason. I hope that they do a better job matching the service to the food next time.
Some of the best italian food i have had. SO yummy!
I have enjoyed Mi Piaci for years. the food is great, the staff is warm and friendly. Even in heavy LA traffic, it is always worth the drive to Pasadena to be treated like family!
Mi Piace is located in busy Old Pasadena. Our meal was a bit uneven--some dishes were very good, some needed a bit of help.
The very good: The fresh ricotta with lemon was really nice--bright flavor, a bit heavy on the olive oil, but we thoroughly enjoyed the dish. The scampi were perfectly cooked--and the veggies were really a nice complement to the dish--not the usual afterthought--they were nicely integrated and well-prepared. We tried gelato and sorbeto for dessert--both very nice.
The needs work: Lobster pasta special--OK, I'm pretty good with seafood, but it was a real struggle to get the lobster out of the halved shells. No assistance from the kitchen to get this started--and with small tails, took some effort to remove. The sauce was to be spicy--but was pretty flat--I liked the orange zest, but missed the spice kick. Also, pasta was slightly overcooked--and had 3 different types mixed in. So, just OK.
Good wine list--not extensive but well-chosen options.
Might have been uneven due to being a busy night. I'd give another try.
We both ordered the 10 oz. angus rib-eye from the lunch special menu. The flavor was great but the meat quality was unfortunately very bad and dry.
Service was great though.
Always a great place to relax after visiting the Norton Simon Museum - great menu and bar options and great service too!
Always have had a great experience here. It does get very busy but still great food and atmosphere.
I'm local and have been here a handful of times. Food is usually good and priced accordingly. Bar area is nice but always busy. The ambiance however is lacking. Every time I've sat inside it's hot and crowded. People are jammed in their like sardines. Also very loud and hard to hear anybody you're with. Also appears to have become quite touristy. I would recommend sitting outside if you can.
Excellent food and excellent customer service
We found the service to be less than desireable. Not attentative to us as customers. Forget us a lot. We ordered cocktails and the ingredients on the menu were what was served. Not happy with this visit.
Restaurant is large, but not noisy. We could easily converse. Food is cooked fresh, not necessarily the case in some Italian restaurants. Prices were quite moderate, although there were some pricier choices. As a bonus, wines by the bottle were 25% off Tues and Wed, a happy surprise.
I would recommend this restaurant for good food, friendly service, nice ambiance, and location. The above reasons don't really apply to me.
It was just what the girls needed for a night on the town
Really good food ans service, too loud and too many tables with uncountable seating.
My family and I️ enjoyed the attentive service. It was how we chose to spend Thanksgiving. They ambiance was perfect for our family
Quality of the food is always excellent. The sauces are fresh and cannot be found at any other Resturant. Service is outstanding. Pricing is reasonable especially for the quality of the food. They are very personable and not snobby. We visit L.A. about three times a year (from Denver CO) and always make it a priority to visit Mi Piace. It is our favorite place to dine in L.A.
Nice place for a date and delicious food and great service!
I travel to Pasadena from Florida to see my mom and daughter. This restaurant is a must great food friendly staff and they prepare veal parmigiana even though it isn’t on the menu.
I have recommended it to friends traveling to Pasadena and they all rave about it. It is on Colorado Blvd. so there are many great places to shop near by.
Food was good but the creme brulee was bland and served cold. This place is very good for adults and families with teenagers. I would not recommend it for families with younger kids because the place is smaller and the chairs are very close together.
We had dined at Mi Piace once before and were hoping for a repeat performance, but we were disappointed. The waitress seemed to be suffering patiently while we were ordering. The lobster bisque was good, but the mussels that came with the spaghetti were not fresh. My wife's salmon arrived with a long black hair clearly visible on the white plate - poor quality control. She sent the plate back of course; when it came back, the vegetables were crisp instead of soft as she had requested. She sent it back again. After the plate came back, she did enjoy it because the salmon was excellent and the vegetables (finally) to her liking.
They took a little money off the bill but even so it wasn't worth it. We won't go there again.
Food was very expensive which I didn’t mind but it was only mediocre. The service was very good.
I haven't been to this restaurant in a while and I have to say that I'm so disappointed! Service was only sub par given our server stood at the front with the host and chit chatted it up. All I have to say to that is that there is a time and place for that, but not on the clock! Food was bland and tasted frozen only to heat up and throw sauce together. Sad to say all this but if you're looking for great Italian food, or brunch on a Sunday, go somewhere else.
Love their breakfast
The half life of a restaurant in Old Town Pasadena is not very long. Most restaurants go away quickly. Mi Piace is one of the exceptions having survived for many years. The food is of very high quality and the menu has something for everyone. The minestrone is very basic, but it's exactly like what my Italian mother made for us growing up. Here's to many more years of great meals at this great restaurant!
Great place to meet in Pasadena. Excellent carpaccio! Good, but not great pizza; I like a thinner crust. Lovely birthday treat; tasted like it had been refrigerated for a while, still good.
Great food and service. We visit a couple of time a year
We went with friends from out-of-town for breakfast/lunch. Service was excellent and we and our guests enjoyed the food and ambiance. The noise level was fine for conversation.
Very disappointed in the ribeye burger. Too thin to be a gourmet burger. Could not be cooked medium rare because it was too thin. Honestly I Just had a Jack in the Box one that was just as good. Not worthy of your restaurant. Hopefully you will remove from your menu. But everything else was great. I will be back.
Service was not so good.
Pastas wete delicious.
Fish was under seasoning.
Lamb was good.
Nice spot to eat and hang out for drinks.. Although the bar was nice and trendy they needed just one more drink waitress.. Great spot to hang overall.. 👍🏼👍🏼
This is an update of my previous review. This used to be our favorite go-to place in Pasadena. I knew there was a wait for seating and service (even with a reservation), but I put up with it. No longer. I'm tired of the pretentious and snooty host staff. I have lived and traveled all over the globe and dined in the best restaurants. There is no reason this place needs to be so haughty. The food, frankly, was meh. The quality has declined since my first visit years ago. Not one person in my group enjoyed the evening. I had invited an out-of-town guest and I was embarrassed. We were treated a bit like riff-raff simply because I deigned to ask more than once when we would be seated, even though I had a reservation. Life is too short to put up with people like this, and Pasadena has too many good restaurant alternatives. Bye, bye, baby.
Had an appointment but had to wait 35 mins after we checked in. Not sure what the purpose of having a reservation is for. When we got seated, we didn’t even have menus for a while. Was not to happy with this place, it use to be much better.
Go for the pizza with it's very thin crust, but pastas bland as is Ceasar dressing. Kitchen remarkably slow with entrees.
Delicious food and excellent customer service
Great food and service, but a bit too loud. Great location for walking around after a fullfilling meal.
They have a decent happy hour. The dipping sauces for the calamari are quite tasty. My husband asked if we could get the calamari not fried. The answer was no. The chicken lasagna was one reason I went. It was good but not phenomenal.
Great food, wonderful staff, fine dining ambiance. Definately recommend Mi Piace!!
This past Sunday night was way to noisey. It is one of the few Italian restaurants that offers Amarone by the glass!!! What a treat.
We Have been before and this time as always the service and food were excellent.
My boyfriend and I hadn't been here for a while, and since it was his birthday and he always liked Mi Piace, I decided to surprise him and booked dinner for Sat nite. What a fun and perfect evening! Sat outside for some great people watching, but our table spot was also both romantic and cozy. Our waiter was wonderful, food was divine, Malbec wine yummy. A perfect night at a very special restaurant. Thank you, MP!!! xxxx
