Great Menu for Valentines Day!
Chef Alisha created an incredible meal for us !! She’s truly talented ! Can’t wait to go back !
We really enjoyed our dining experience at mfk. The flavors that flowed through these dishes was amazing! Enjoyed the pinchos probably more than the one main dish we split. Worthy of a Chicago Top 10 fish restaurant.
A lot of usual items were not available on the menu. Would not susbitut
We went with the Restaurant Week menu. The hors d'oeuvre were a little acidic but the clam chorizo entree was absolutely spectacular - one of the most soulful broths we have ever had. Excellent cocktails as well.
Still one of our favorite spots. Casual, chic, and delicious.
This was our second visit to mfk and it was equally as delicious as the first time. We were excited to bring friends with us and it didn't disappoint. The room is warm and intimate but full of excitement. The food is amazing and for shared plates the portions are generous which just adds to the value. Love this place!
We booked a table for restaurant week lunch, as was advertised on open table. When we got there, there was no restaurant week menu and we were told it was a mistake, they weren’t offering restaurant week at lunch. We were told they could offer us a la cart specials (in other worlds the regular menu) or the chef’s tasting menu for almost $70. We declined and ordered off the menu.
I would say the food was at best nothing special and at worst suspicious. We ordered prawns, which when they arrived were actually just shrimp which were a very strange, soft texture. Almost like they had been defrosted, cooked, re frozen and heated up again.
One very small plate, and two medium sharing plates between the two of us, with bread and a glass of wine each came in at over $80. Not the restaurant week we were hoping for.
The food is not only interesting but you can taste the freshness of each ingredient. It is a thoughtfully created menu and preparation technique. The staff could not be more helpful and knowledgeable. It is always a lovely experience dining here.
the trout toast was simply incredible. Everything was GREAT! I'd skip ordering the side of bread though.
Food was very good although a limited menu. The server could not have been more helpful answered all our questions about the dishes. There was not a long wait for the food and even though the menu was small it was quite unique in it's selections. We would definitely go back
Great as always. And that's what I live love about mfk, that you can always bring your friends for a great time and food
Outstanding as always, no better place to see in the new year.
I can see the potential and perhaps we visited on an off night. We sat at the bar, food was poorly coursed out and the bartender was clearly annoyed. They also didn't take the time to explain the dishes which is a nice touch at restaurants of this caliber. In general there was a lot of gravy on the dishes (Tortilla Espanola and Scallops) which probably dilluted the flavors. Overall, we paid 170 for a dinner for two that was just "ok".
My partner and I had discussed dining at MFK for years given its proximity to us. We finally had dinner there recently, and we both walked away happy with our experience. We started with cocktails - one a great mezcal-based concoction infused with rosemary, the other a whiskey blend with grapefruit that was less impressive, but grew on my partner throughout the meal. For the food, the smaller plates impressed us most. In particular, the crudo, smoked trout toast, and white bean cocido were standouts. We also had the tapas de jamon (small, but flavorful bites) and the deep-fried prawn heads (nice, romesco-like sauce in the dish). Our final dish, the seafood fideo from the large plates menu, was rich, and the barbecued pork in the dish was delicious, but the flavors were a bit disappointing. Perhaps this was only because of the robustly-flavored dishes that preceded it in the meal. Overall, the restaurant seems to do a lot with the limited amount of space it has. The bar is small but cozy, the decor is fairly simple but cute, and if you're seated near the door, you'll catch a breeze from outside every time someone enters/exits the restaurant. Service is friendly and timely, and if you bring the right company (but be careful with a large group, as this space isn't particularly equipped for that), you'll have a good time. Recommended.
The food was delicious & the service was excellent. We particularly enjoyed the anchovies & smoke trout.
The food is amazing - interesting dishes that were flavorful and unique. We sat at the bar which can be a bit tight, so make reservations well in advance to snag a table. This is a hidden gem in Chicago.
Excellent, healthy and beautifully prepared food with very friendly and accommodating service. real neighborhood gem.
Thank you for wonderful dining. Enjoyed food and Service. Ben was awesome
One of our all-time favorite Chicago restaurants. The food and the service are excellent and we love the intimate setting. I highly recommend!
8 course birthday dinner served with amazing cocktails, attentive and courteous service and downright killer flavors!! Very cool, hip place for a Friday night dinner with friends or a date.
mfk was recommended to us by our daughter, who used to live in the Lakeview neighborhood where it's located. Small, intimate and just really great food. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about the experience.
Spectacular as always! Looking forward to many return visits.
Never a dissapointment. Food is incredible, as well as the whole.experience. Thank you for keeping up the great level of quality since day number one
It had been a year since we last visited and we will never wait that long again. The food was outstanding as was the service. I can't wait to go back - maybe next week!
Amazing! My boyfriend and I come to mfk often and they always make you feel VIP!
Very good food. Will go back soon!
I found the bar chairs to be uncomfortable. My feet did not reach any of the chair or bar rails, and I am 6’ tall. Also, the seat itself was not comfortable. The food, service, and ambiance was all very enjoyable, and we will be back. Thank you!
MFK never fails to deliver an exceptional dining experience. The tiny dining room and casual vibe is paired with stunningly delicious food and attentive service. The bar offers delicious cocktails- but don't bet on finding your normal brand labels here- all selections are small batch and carefully curated. Wines are all interesting and likely will be ones you have never had before. It's best to have them paired to your dishes by your server and you will not be disappointed.
Although the food was delicious, the portions were very small. I understand this is a tapas place, but some plates were tiny compared to the price
We arrived for an early supper at 4:15pm and the kitchen was doing its thing. We were the only customers at that unusual time, but the service was impeccable. And, the food (we chose 4 different dishes) was interesting and tasty. Pacing was perfect with each new dish arriving as the previous one was finished. It is a find.
Fantastic experience all the way around. Concise and strong wine selection. Attentive server. The trout toast is ridiculously out-of-this world. Also it's flat-out adorable; so there's that.
Wonderful staff, wonderful drinks, and wonderful ambiance. Among the dishes we tried, the smoked trout on toast, anchovies and cauliflower were all excellent. The Galician shrimp, a special of the week, was good, but not great. Very possible it is being judged only in the context of the other amazing dishes. Overall, mfk is an excellent spot for a date or small group and we will be back.
Our guests, who are very knowledgeable about foods, loved EVERYTHING on your menu. Our dining experience was exceptional. Thank you, Jim Gilliam
our favorite dish was the smoked trout -- yummy. Also the cauliflower and the croquettes. The guys loved the fried smelt too. Everything was very good. Service was a little uneven, but our waitress was lovely and she had a lot of tables to attend to, so it was understandable. . .and she apologized for the long wait before clearing our table and getting the check. We were surprised there was only one dessert offering and no coffee available. . .but even so, we'll definitely go back because the food is outstanding!
Over-priced. Some items were very good and reasonably sized but others were ridiculously small and not very good, especially the mussel appetizer. The charge of $1 per slice of bread was particularly gauling.
Wow! This wasn't even going to a restaurant, this was a dining experience. The staff is very kind and the food is next level delicious. I couldn't recommend this place strongly enough.
Every bite of food was beautiful, interesting, perfectly prepared, and delicious. The staff is warm and friendly. A restaurant with soul.
Fantastic craft cocktails in this cosy space make for a wonderful evening. The seafood is superb and the flavors amazing. Highly recommend!
Great spot. Always excellent. The quality of the food never wavers.
