Food was excellent as always. Standouts include the boquerones, goat cheese and fideos. Service was very good until our waitress said she had to leave and then someone else would be taking over. But at that point service was not quite as good or attentive. Still, an excellent evening and dinner.
Flavor profiles were spot on. Every dish was exceptional.
Best seafood in Chicago. I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for quality food with great service in a beautiful cozy restaurant.
This is an odd place. The food is truly excellent and the ambience is nice and not overly loud, but the service was really sub-par. The waiters were relatively clumsy and slow to respond to requests, which was surprising given that the space is no larger than an average sized living room. The service staff was trying to do the right thing, so I don't think there was any darker motivation, they were just maladroit.
I am evaluating on a Bib Gourmand scale as this restaurant is nicer and more expensive than your average restaurant. Cute place and been here twice now. The first time thought the food was so-so, second time food was good-to-great. Seems a lot depends on the menu at the time. The croquettes were phenomenal, but tapas de jamon too small for the price. The rest were hit or miss as well. Everyone was getting the basque cake so we tried it but were disappointed by its dryness. No non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. Asked the bartender to make me a non-alcoholic drink but it was straight sugar. I think it’s a mistake when bartenders substitute alcohol for sugar in non-alcoholic beverages. Dishes came out in a well-paced manner, were described well, and plates were switched quickly. Had a trendy, romantic feel. I probably wouldn’t come back (I like a good dessert and beverage) but would understand why someone would choose to.
We love this restaurant. Wonderful food, drinks and service. Love this little gem in our neighborhood. Will be back many times.
This was one of my favorite restaurant environments in Chicago. It’s relatively small, but the charm and atmosphere work really well. It’s also not overcrowded.
Food was very good as well, though not exceptional. Really enjoyed all items of the meal though. Pretty slim wine and beer list too. The basque cake for dessert is out of this world.
Overall, good time. Would definitely go back, keep exploring the menu, and enjoying the good vibes.
From start to finish, the food was fantastic. The salt-cured sardines and the trout toast were two stand-outs.
Excellent service as always.
Creative menu, wonderful mix of flavors and textures!
Lovely meal. Wonderful service. Many thanks to all involved.
You guys are best. Thanks for not making me feel awful for my awful food allergies
It seems that a restaurant that demands a credit card to hold a reservation would be more welcoming when guests show up on time (and a little early), Such an attitude from the "gentleman' that "greets" upon entering.
Our server was very good until it got busy (STO) and then she obviously wanted to push us out. We asked for a post-dinner cappuccino and were told they were out of espresso :-) Then the people next to us were served cappuccino. We then asked for regular decaf to be told "it's pressed coffee so it will take a lot of time".
Please don't overbook our restaurant and then punish your guests
MFK consistently prepares a fabulous meal. Every time I take friends for their first MFK experience they are delighted.
Great food great service. Tables very close together
Great ambiance - small intimate restaurant with incredible food. Wine list is great and service is impeccable. We celebrate all of our 'happy news' dates here.
Amazing food! Each dish had an unique flavor! We were surprised at every bite. Definitely going back! Really good, I highly recommend mfk!
We used to like mfk- our last experience was not good. The food was not as good. The risotto was over cooked and did not taste good at all. Plus we think it’s too expensive for the quality of food they serve
This place is amazing our waitress was so sweet and knowledgeable on everything the ambience was nice and the food was superb. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.
Server was not terribly attentive, but experience overall was fantastic.
Great Menu for Valentines Day!
Chef Alisha created an incredible meal for us !! She’s truly talented ! Can’t wait to go back !
We really enjoyed our dining experience at mfk. The flavors that flowed through these dishes was amazing! Enjoyed the pinchos probably more than the one main dish we split. Worthy of a Chicago Top 10 fish restaurant.
A lot of usual items were not available on the menu. Would not susbitut
We went with the Restaurant Week menu. The hors d'oeuvre were a little acidic but the clam chorizo entree was absolutely spectacular - one of the most soulful broths we have ever had. Excellent cocktails as well.
Still one of our favorite spots. Casual, chic, and delicious.
This was our second visit to mfk and it was equally as delicious as the first time. We were excited to bring friends with us and it didn't disappoint. The room is warm and intimate but full of excitement. The food is amazing and for shared plates the portions are generous which just adds to the value. Love this place!
We booked a table for restaurant week lunch, as was advertised on open table. When we got there, there was no restaurant week menu and we were told it was a mistake, they weren’t offering restaurant week at lunch. We were told they could offer us a la cart specials (in other worlds the regular menu) or the chef’s tasting menu for almost $70. We declined and ordered off the menu.
I would say the food was at best nothing special and at worst suspicious. We ordered prawns, which when they arrived were actually just shrimp which were a very strange, soft texture. Almost like they had been defrosted, cooked, re frozen and heated up again.
One very small plate, and two medium sharing plates between the two of us, with bread and a glass of wine each came in at over $80. Not the restaurant week we were hoping for.
The food is not only interesting but you can taste the freshness of each ingredient. It is a thoughtfully created menu and preparation technique. The staff could not be more helpful and knowledgeable. It is always a lovely experience dining here.
the trout toast was simply incredible. Everything was GREAT! I'd skip ordering the side of bread though.
Food was very good although a limited menu. The server could not have been more helpful answered all our questions about the dishes. There was not a long wait for the food and even though the menu was small it was quite unique in it's selections. We would definitely go back
Great as always. And that's what I live love about mfk, that you can always bring your friends for a great time and food
Outstanding as always, no better place to see in the new year.
I can see the potential and perhaps we visited on an off night. We sat at the bar, food was poorly coursed out and the bartender was clearly annoyed. They also didn't take the time to explain the dishes which is a nice touch at restaurants of this caliber. In general there was a lot of gravy on the dishes (Tortilla Espanola and Scallops) which probably dilluted the flavors. Overall, we paid 170 for a dinner for two that was just "ok".
My partner and I had discussed dining at MFK for years given its proximity to us. We finally had dinner there recently, and we both walked away happy with our experience. We started with cocktails - one a great mezcal-based concoction infused with rosemary, the other a whiskey blend with grapefruit that was less impressive, but grew on my partner throughout the meal. For the food, the smaller plates impressed us most. In particular, the crudo, smoked trout toast, and white bean cocido were standouts. We also had the tapas de jamon (small, but flavorful bites) and the deep-fried prawn heads (nice, romesco-like sauce in the dish). Our final dish, the seafood fideo from the large plates menu, was rich, and the barbecued pork in the dish was delicious, but the flavors were a bit disappointing. Perhaps this was only because of the robustly-flavored dishes that preceded it in the meal. Overall, the restaurant seems to do a lot with the limited amount of space it has. The bar is small but cozy, the decor is fairly simple but cute, and if you're seated near the door, you'll catch a breeze from outside every time someone enters/exits the restaurant. Service is friendly and timely, and if you bring the right company (but be careful with a large group, as this space isn't particularly equipped for that), you'll have a good time. Recommended.
The food was delicious & the service was excellent. We particularly enjoyed the anchovies & smoke trout.
The food is amazing - interesting dishes that were flavorful and unique. We sat at the bar which can be a bit tight, so make reservations well in advance to snag a table. This is a hidden gem in Chicago.
Excellent, healthy and beautifully prepared food with very friendly and accommodating service. real neighborhood gem.
Thank you for wonderful dining. Enjoyed food and Service. Ben was awesome
