Mezzo - Dublin Ratings and Reviews
Atmosphere and service was great. Any dish with red sauce was fairly bland. Carbonara, pizza, parmigiana all tasteless. Steak looked good and was like by the person who ordered it. The others at the table said their dinners were presented well but lacked flavor.
Great look To the place. Most of the dining was upstairs and the bar scene downstairs. I liked that. Our food was delicious even though it took a while. The server and manager both apologized and gave us dessert. I was here with girlfriends; I'll have to bring my husband back.
My family and I dine out frequently. Mezzo is one of our favorite restaurants. Excellent food and service. The General manager Michael Haller has a hands on approach and takes pride in making sure that all guests enjoy their visit. It was just a wonderful experience.
They were a little slow last night compared to previous visits, but we weren't in a hurry and the food is so delicious that I won't hold it against them. The arancini appetizer, basically fried risotto balls, is delicious and comes with marinara sauce for dipping. The salads are pretty good as well. But my favorite thing on the menu is the garganelli alla vodka! The sausage has the right amount of heat to it, that it really kicks the dish up a notch. And the vodka sauce is on point and not too heavy. Mezzo is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Columbus.
Portions on the small side for the prices. Lobster ravioli was tasty and the Eggplant Parm was good. The lamb was cooked well but the creamy polenta was not-so-creamy and more solid gel state, as was the gravy- too gelatinous for my liking. No leftovers of worth to bring home from any 3 dishes, though we did leave satisfied.
Entertained friends who came thru town en-route from the Republic of Texas to other locations. Patio seating on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We had a great experience at one of our faves in Dublin... they went on their way very impressed with the town, location, wine, food, service. Gnocci/pesto, Scallops/risotto, and petite pizza were served hot and perfectly prepared. Ask for Alex as your server, he's aces.
The atmosphere was nice, we arrived at 5:30 so there was practically no one there. During or visit the Coffman Homecomings was that night so well dressed young adults started arriving.
Was a little surprised there was no complementary bread at the table. We ordered a glass of wine that was very good. The shareable was interesting, bruschetta was soggy with the tomato pesto was very thick and wet and difficult to eat unless with a fork.
The dinner was good, about average for a pasta dish. The problem was if I had to choose between the 4 or 5 dining places in that area I would probably not pick this as my 2 or 3 choice price and food wise.
I all likelihood I will go back for a lunch, but the limited and slightly unusual menu will keep me from make it a regular dining choice.
I took my college age son and his girlfriend here for dinner. The service was very good, and I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because my salad was forgotten and never brought to the table, but I wasn't charged for it, so it was fine. We shared one appetizer - the rice balls, and they were delicious. I had the gnocchi prepared with pesto, peas, asparagus and sun dried tomatoes. It was fantastic and a perfect sized portion. My son had chicken parm over orchietti pasta and loved his dish also. The seating was cozy and the room very comfortable with dark wood, nice lighting and heavy drapes. We will return!
I've been to Mezzo many times and always enjoyed the experience. However, this last occasion was horrible. To begin, the server came out with 3 meals and our 4th member of our party had to wait. My daughter order filet mignon Medium but it came out rare to the point where it could have passed as black and blue. My wife ordered a glass of wine with dinner and subsequently ordered a bottle of wine. The server did not give her a fresh wine glass and poured the new wine into her existing wine glass and keep in mind the wines were different. The calamari appetizer was horrible. It was over fried but it had more fried vegetables than calamari. When the server cleared out table she piled dishes on the table in front of us before taking them away and on several occasions dropped utensils. We spend $180.00 not including the gratuity but it wasn't worth it. I'm not complaining about the expense because we like to go out often for fine dining but the whole experience was horrible.
The appetizers were quite good. My wife had the burrata and bruschetta. I had the mussels. The main courses however were quite disappointing. My breaded veal scallopini was drowned in lemon juice, could barely taste the veal. The pasta was overcooked and glued together. My wife's chicken Milanese was also overcooked and accompanied by pasta shells in a tasteless tomatoe sauce. Terrible combination. Time to shake up the kitchen, change the menu and the staff.
